"See More" Google Custom Search (Lite) - Increase Adsense revenue!
 

ForumSetup.net?s ?See More? Google Custom Search will allow visitors to easily find similar content on your site and increase your Adsense revenue! Many sites that have this modification installed have also reported a bump in pages per visitor and a decreased bounce rate as well!

How does it do this? A ?See More? link is inserted in the first post of a thread. If a user is coming from a search engine, the keyword they used to search will be used to link to a Google Custom Search to find more similar content on your site. If the modification cannot get the keyword or a user is browsing your site, the title of the thread will be used instead. The free version of Google Custom Search inserts relevant ads, increasing your Adsense revenue at the same time.

Installation

Google Custom Search Setup

1. First, you'll need to set things up with Google Custom Search if you haven't already. We are already assuming you have a Google Adsense account setup and it is linked with Custom Search
2. Go to https://www.google.com/cse/create/new
3. Enter all information and click Create
4. Under "Edit search engine" go to "Look and feel"
5. Click "Full width" and click Save
6. Go to "Setup"
7. Click the "Make money" tab, and make sure "Search Engine Monetization" is on and your AdSense account is hooked up
8. On the "Basics" tab under the Details section click - "Search engine ID"
9. Take note of your Search Engine ID

See More install & setup

1. Once you download the package, unzip it
2. Upload gsearch.php to your forum root
3. Install the product xml under the admincp. Plugins & Projects > Manage Products > Add/Import Product (at the bottom)
4. Go to Settings > Options > "See More" Google Custom Search
5. Insert your pub id as noted in the last step of the previous section
6. If you wish to change how the results page looks the template is named see_more_gsearch
7. That's it!

The lite version adds a link to ForumSetup.net to the footer of the search results page and thread pages. The pro version does not have this and adds some other features. To learn more, please see this page.

Excellent mod, I like it very much.

Only preg string is not correct. My partner ID is 013849763082920131497:b_pcqr4_9q0. Also, I needed to add partner-pub- prefix before mod started to work. When I look in custom search link, I don't see that prefix. Please, clarify explanation in your mod for others.

As I had already included custom search in my site I needed to change template (removed search code completely, as I had to searches active), but it's probably not relevant to others.

What if the link to see more threads is under every post? Would this help or not? Not sure on this one...

And yes, sign this mod as working with all vB4 versions, it works with vB4 versions other than just vB4.2.2.

I'm not sure that adding the link under every post would be effective. Honestly, it would probably just add clutter.

1.0.1 corrects an issue with verifying the google ID. If you didn't have this issue there is no need to update.

Nice mod is there a setting to pick usergroups to show it to? I don't show advertisements to my Senior members. If it has that I will buy it.

are you running a custom skin on your forum?

You didn't read carefully first post and instructions that come with this mod.

You need to put prefix partner-pub- before your partner ID for this mod to start working. Even if preg string check marks it incorrect, saving this option that way (partner-pub-YourPartinerID) will work. Your image shows you didn't used it.

But, without using prefix partner-pub- mod doesnt' work.

It could be solved so we need enter only partner ID and this prefix is already put in link by mod's code. Or, by us manually inserting prefix partner-pub- as it is now.

Do you looking at your site as a guest? Free version shows this link only to guests, so I too check if it works in other browser where I'm not logged in.

So you're not seeing anything after the first post in a thread? Even if you didn't enter your Google id in properly the link should still show up as long as the modification is turned on.

Honestly, I have no idea why it's not showing unless you have some caching going on for guests. The only thing I can think is there is something different with right to left or character encoding with the thread title that I'm not accounting for, but that shouldn't matter.

I have purchased and followed all install directions however the "see more" is not working. Any suggestions?

Can you be a little more specific? Are you viewing your forum as a guest? The See More link isn't showing? The gsearch.php page isn't working? Do you have a modified style? What do you have "Location of the See More link" set to?

FYI, anyone having issues with the See More link not showing up, try this:
Admincp -> Plugins & Products -> Plugin Manager - > Edit "See More Postbit", change Execution order to 10.

I found that this is conflicting with other plugins that do something with the postbit. I'll release this fix in the next update, but until then this is the solution if you can't get the link to show up.

Apparently not all Google ID's have 'partner-pub-' in front of them. If you don't then just enter your ID, and click save. Right now it will throw an error - don't worry about that. It'll be fixed in the next release.

Also, if you're experiencing a lag when loading the search results on the search results page, then open up the 'see_more_gsearch' template, find gcse.async = true; and change it to gcse.async = false;

my forum in arabic, and there is lot of thread title in arabic, when click see more(in thread with arabic title)

its open cse with search box "UTF-8"

also, my forum is right to left align
"see more" shown in the middle of thread not align to right

I will have to make an option for character encoding and alignment.

To get this add float:right to the end of the "See More font" field.

thats working fine for align

but after install new version 1.2.1 and try thread with Arabic title

when click seemore :
1- IE explorer said "This page can’t be displayed"
2- Firefox 30 show "windows-1256" instead of "UTF-8" in previous version, also Firefox switch all font in the page to unknown encode (show it as symbols unreadable)

Note: you can test at your project with thread in arabic with this expamle

The mod now gets the character encoding that your forum is set to. Yours is set to windows-1256. Honestly, I'm not sure why UTF-8 wasn't working for you before.
