Does VB4 support PHP5.5?

Does anyone here run their board on PHP5.5?

Set3sh 04-25-2014 10:25 AM

Yes, after you hide the warnings, everything works fine.
I'm running vb4 with php 5.5.11.

Hide the warnings?

It's just a matter of ignoring lines in the error log?

tbworld 04-25-2014 08:24 PM

I am evaluating PHP 5.5 on vBulletin v4.2.2, on a local test board. At this point I have no reason to push the envelop. I like to sit back and watch others have the server problems. :) If you need it, I get it, but if you don't just run it on a test board. Only my opinion ... it's worth what you paid for it. :)

If you ask me, it would be hell easier if vb would make a topic or some guidelines about what it would need to be modified so that vb4 can be full php 5.5 compatible.
I tried to modify it but the source code is a mess, there's nothing sistemically organised.
But that is just my thinking.

The biggest issue is our use of /e in some regexes, and I think a few commands we use make use of e.

Hi

I am in the process of moving from a 32bit to a 64bit server but this runs PHP 5.5 now :( I also use vB 4.2.2 and the test I have done so far the new server seems to run quite well... I do have the stop all errors line in my vBulletin config file following an issue after an upgrade in the past..

Is there anything i should check to make sure it works before i take it live?

I did ask on vBulletin but got an outright no.... Lol

I do intend to upgrade in the next few weeks to at least 4.2.3 which I know they do say will work...

The reason you'll have got an outright 'no', is because that's the correct answer. 4.2.2's code is simply not compatible with php 5.5.

Is there a reason why you can't just run the perfectly simple and minor upgrade to 4.2.3?

tester559 03-15-2017 06:42 PM

I know the upgrade is simple, done quite a few .. I use a custom skin which is not compatible at the moment but it is all part of the upgrade once the server is done..

Just did not want to do it just yet..

As I say two of us have checked and seen no errors as yet... I was just interested in what I could get..

Can't think of what there would be in a 4.2.2 style that would break in 4.2.3....

tester559 03-15-2017 07:05 PM

Funny enough I have just found that I did download an updated scheme that does work with 4.2.3 so if needed I can upgrade ;) Does going from 4.2.2 to 4.2.3 need any reverts or anything?

I will continue to test "as is" and see what happens, as I say the quick test we have done so far seemed OK...

I was thinking of doing a full upgrade and change the entire site design which is why I wanted to wait...

Do you have any ideas what could go wrong with 4.2.2 and 5.5? just a guide will do, I cant be the only one who has done this Lol ... and someone above even said they have it working... or had as this is an old thread..

cellarius 03-16-2017 10:41 AM

Just update to 4.2.3. Test it first on your test installation, as you always should. It's been just PHP compatibility, and I can't think of anything that would affect style. Why would anyone do unnecessary work (writing a guide for you), if it's completely pointless?

tester559 03-16-2017 11:14 AM

I did not ask for a guide I asked what could go wrong.. or what issues may arise...

So far it seems to run ok will test more over the weekend. . I'd all else fails I will bring the update forward..

I can't be the only one that has tried running this combination but oh well.. Guess I will find out myself. .. and keep the results to myself..

Please feel free to remove my pointless request for help from the forum.

Mark.B 03-16-2017 12:48 PM

The problem is, you're asking for help and then completely ignoring every piece of advice given to you by experienced professionals. What sort of reaction did you expect?

tester559 03-16-2017 12:58 PM

The advice has not been ignored but my question "what errors should I expect/see" had NOT been answered... Forget it now anyway I will find out myself...

Paul M 03-16-2017 05:38 PM

Closing.

This thread is old and the question has been answered - 4.2.3 supports PHP 5.5, as does 4.2.4.

More petty arguing is not required.
