What is better, vB3 or vB4?

I have licence for vB 4 so I can use 4 and 3.

I want to know what is better and for what?

I know that vB 3 is old and vB4 still have some bugs as I can see... I really like style of vB3, vB4 is hard to read and I don't like navbar and login... But anyway maybe vB4 have more features...

What you think? Vote please and reply why you think that.

Thanks

That will all depend on who you ask... There are many threads regarding this very topic.
vb4 is growing on me after a year of messing around with it but, I like 3.8 more then 4.0.
I agree with your navbar comment, I do not like vb4 navbar.
Editing 3.8 is beyond simple compared to 4.0.... I can keep going....

I can edit navbar, I think it's just css and maybe html... But that's easy :)

Anyway, I'm asking because I'm start with vB4.2.2 and I'm like more style of vB3 but ok.
Now when I search I see a lot of bad comments and lot of good sites was choose xenForo in place of that.

I haven't money for xenForo, but I don't know what to choose from this 2. So you suggest 4?
Thanks.

Eight of the ten largest vBulletin boards use version 3.8. One of the ten is still using vBulletin 2. The one who "upgraded" to v4 still regrets it. I summarize the 3 v. 4 and 5 debate here.

I recommend version 3.8.8

I'm never seen look of vB2 :D

Is your license for VB4 Suite or VB4 Forum Only? If VB4 Suite I would give the edge to VB4. If Forum Only it's a much harder decision IMO.

I don't know :erm: I'm buy it from friend for little money because he buy xenForo, why?

I'm tryied both now. I can modify css vb3 easier, and I can choose one post, I have forum as homepage... I think I will use 3.8.7

In the Member's Area does the link to download say-

Download vBulletin 4.x Forum

or

Download vBulletin 4.x Publishing Suite

Then you'll know.

Publishing suite has extra functinoality, such as a CMS and Blogs.

Zyon 04-17-2014 03:50 PM

Ok... Thanks

So what is (your opinion) bettter and why

BirdOPrey5 04-17-2014 03:55 PM

Publishing Suite gives you a Blog and Articles if you want them. It also comes with free ticket support.

If you have any desire to have blogs for your members and/or provide articles rather than just forum threads then going with VB 4.2.2 is your better choice.

And if I don't need it?

If I need, I always can update it?

BirdOPrey5 04-17-2014 05:40 PM

You can always upgrade to VB4 later, you can never downgrade back to VB3 without restoring from a backup made while running VB3, or losing all your content and starting fresh on VB3.

Ok, thanks a lot.

We ran vB3 until vB3.8 then upgraded to vB4.0.7 and have kept up to date since then
vB4 < 4.1.4 or thereabouts was iffy, but now is very good.

vB4 is better then vB5 for now. I can do everything we want in vB4

Compelling reasons?

You might have misunderstood. I was asking for the compelling reason for you to "upgrade" to v4.

Zyon 04-22-2014 08:17 PM

What is difference except design with them?

I'm using 3.8.7 patch 4 and if I see that vB4 is better I will upgrade. I have vB4 licence.

I'm seen on localhost on comp that I can't edit style like in vB3...

Infopro 04-23-2014 04:41 PM

vB4, but man do I miss the good ol days of vB3. I will never, ever, move to vB5.

No thank you very much.
