[OzzModz] Disable Right Click

This mod will act as a roadblock to prevent people from right clicking on your forum, offering some sort of protection from people copy & pasting your content.
There are ways to get round this but think of it as a stumbling block which might just discourage some people.

This blocks the ability to right click, and also blocks the ability to copy and paste through the context menu that appears when right clicking.

It is a simple installation, just import the product XML, ozzmodz_no_right_click

You can edit the options under the settings, [OzzModz] Disable Right Click Settings

What does 'Marking As Installed' do ?

Thanks, yeah the usergroups is a bonus. Now of course there is ways around this, but this may stop some less tech savvy users.

I currently use this code in my headinclude with some "THIS_SCRIPT" conditions in an array. Any thoughts on an added option to enable or disable per script also? May come in handy for those who don't want to use it site wide.

After check box is clicked, I was able to download and save the picture.

Yes, that is standard behavior for most browsers. Some show the cancel box on first right click, some on second, some on the third try.

This mod will definitely not stop someone from copying text from your site if they really want it. There are numerous ways to get it, even with right click disabled. It will just slow them down a little and hopefully in that time you can get the point across that your work is not free to distribute.

I personally recommend adding a "Copyright Warning" to the message that appears on right click. That'll stop a few more.

Other than that don't waste your time worrying about trying to stop people because there is nothing you can do. The saying goes "If you don't want it copied, don't put it on the internet!".

There are legal ways to force people to remove it once it has been copied and posted somewhere else, but that is whole other topic and is pretty well documented - Google is your friend there.

Yes i agree. I am going to hope that people who steal pictures are lazy and won't try more than once :)

Unfortunately, yes. But there is always a way to capture data, this MOD just makes it a bit more difficult.

It should not. Right clicking of a mouse is not a function that a spider needs to simulate.

I used to use this exact script on a website I ran years ago. The problem is most people by now will know that pressing "Ctrl + U" will show the source code of your site thus allowing your to copy/paste content from your site.

Firebug will also allow users to grab your image locations and copy your content. They could also disable JavaScript which will prevent this mod working.

WOW, a mate was just telling how his WP site has this ability.

As a publisher with heaps of Contributors it is nice to know I have a measure to protect them.

Works well, only problem is that the hierarchical system of VB means everyone who has that group as just an additional, gets blocked, too.

So, all staff have the right click blocked, if they are registered members, if that group has it blocked too.

Can it be done that on certain forums right click is disabled for all, but on other forums just for guests?

Also is it possible that after warning message if user is again trying to use right click ...to redirect them to another site :D
