13 March 2014 Patch Question - Install Folder

The latest patch (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...x-of-vbulletin) includes an install folder. Am I supposed to do anything with those files? They're all xml files (3 of them) so I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to import them via the admin cp.

Also, on a side note, why does this patch have the same name as the 2012 patch (vb_patch387_VBxxxxxxx)?

Edited by staff: License number removed from above description.

You can remove the install folder, no need for it if you are just patching a current version.

RichieBoy67 03-16-2014 02:32 AM

There is no install directory in the patch. You must have downloaded the full package.

ozzy47 03-16-2014 02:33 AM

He might have downloaded the full files instead of just the patch. :)

Max Taxable 03-16-2014 02:48 AM

You may have downloaded the full package and all the files too instead of just the patch.:D

Good question.

RichieBoy67 03-16-2014 03:31 AM

It could be the Illuminati! :D

Good observation noticing the names! I have already added this patch to 4 sites and never once looked at the letters in the name nor at the older ones.

Thank you all for the quick responses.

I re-downloaded the patch and confirmed it has an install directory. The 2012 version also had the install directory with the same 3 xml files.

If anyone has an active license and wants to confirm this, please do so. I'm showing 3 xml files in that folder, which I thought was odd. Just to clarify, this is 3.8.7 PL4.

I realize this was just a file replacement patch, so there's no install per-se. However, I found it odd that those "extra" files were included in an install folder.

Thanks again for the help.

#My bad-I just checked the 3.8 version and there is an install directory. I was talking about 4.2 originally.

Especially as you are constantly reminded to remove the install folder to prevent it being exploited!

Wonder why they would release it as such?, seems a little odd.

Everyone makes mistakes I am sure it will be fixed in time

Lynne 03-16-2014 04:55 AM

If you download a patch file, it will include ALL the files for previously patches of that version. So, if PL1 had files from the /install directory, then PL4 will also have those files.

Simon Lloyd 03-16-2014 05:15 AM

A little confusing for folk though :)

Removed license # from first post, never post your customer # or the license # if you own more than one license ;).

There is no mistake.

The 3.8.7 patch is Patch Level 4, which means it also contains all the relevant files for PL1, 2 & 3. One of those requires you to re-import those XML files.

If you are patching an older 3.8.7 board that is not currently at PL3, you will probably need them.

Just for the record, those files are also completely harmless if you upload them.

Because its the patch for 3.8.7 (the rest is your licence number).
The name of patch files does not change, you should always download the latest version when patching a site.

Thank you for the explanation. It makes sense now.
