Elvis has left the building!

Happy Birthday King!

ForceHSS 01-08-2014 07:34 PM

Hope this does not offend you or anyone

This will always be his birthday. We celebrate the birthdays of others don't we? Some of them are even national holidays.

ForceHSS 01-08-2014 11:03 PM

A national holiday was or is not a living person. I am sure there are many people out there dont celebrate birthdays of someone who has passed away I am one of them. People who have passed away you might remember them more on there birthday or the day they died like I remember the day my dad passed away

blind-eddie 01-08-2014 11:25 PM

Were showing our age here....I was 7 when he died.. I remember watching all the women including my mother go nuts over him every time he was on TV... Then he came to town... total chaos...

ForceHSS 01-08-2014 11:30 PM

I was a few days off 6 and a half years old

K4GAP 01-09-2014 12:10 AM

I was serving in the military at Fort Polk, La.

Young at heart like most here

I thought I was the oldest gamer (Call Of Duty) but just recently discovered a player 73 years old. He's pretty dang good too!

K-fab 01-09-2014 11:15 PM

I still remember where I was when we heard he was gone. In the back seat of my mom's car, with a buddy, headed to a toy store to get some chemicals (back when you could play with chemistry sets).

I was 12.

I really enjoyed AA until it became popular to the kids and they messed it up.

I leased a BF2 server for two years just after it first came out.

I still game a bit but with all the new games coming out requiring 64 bit, I'm left out with my 32 bit gaming rig.

blind-eddie 01-16-2014 01:26 PM

I have a 64 bit rig.... but I don't think it can play many of the games anymore... Plus it takes up a lot of your time... I went through two relationships because of gaming.... lol But, it was worth it lol

Back to the King!

I was a kid and was staying at my grandmas due to my mom being in the hospital. She lived in the city and I was outside in the tiny backyard looking for something to do when my grandma came out and told me. I was so sad about it because I had learned to play many, many of his songs on my guitar. I believe I was about 5 or 6.

I remember he died at age 42 which was the same age his mother died I believe. I also remember talking to my mom on my grandmas big black dial up, corded phone and my mother crying about Elvis. Here she was in the hospital for nearly 2 months and her biggest pain was the loss of the kink.

He was supposed to do a concert in Hartford after that time and my folks had tickets. They saw him once or twice already.

Let's be real about this. No performer has ever come close to Elvis in terms of talent, presence, etc. Everything is just so different now and is just so dammed commercialized.

I think in 200 years from now there will still be Elvis impersonators in Vegas. Nobody will remember people like Justin Bieber.

Great topic. Brought back some memories I have not thought of in a very long time!

haha

I tried to get back on track here. I've done all I could do. :D

Was really tempted though to reply to the old gamer post! I go back to Atari! Call of Duty was awesome! Wolfenstein, Unreal, Quake.. Man I loved those! Ok, I went off topic but too bad the king didn't get a chance to play many games back then. There I brought it back.

Maybe a 'Moderator' here can move this thread to the lounge and rename it. It seems to be well liked by you goof-balls. :)

Okay, so maybe I found it amusing too.

I do have to say though that I never cared for Elvis's movies and Franks were awesome. I still watch them sometimes. On the acting front Frank has Elvis beat hands down. :)

You're birthday is kinda irrevocable. That day will be your birthday in perpetuity.

Not to mention, quite a few national holidays are the celebrations of historical figures birthdays. Even if the date is usually off. <cough>Christmas</cough>

I find myself in arguments a lot pertaining to the actual date Christmas should be on. The present date is based on a pagan holiday.

The whole holiday is based on a Pagan holiday basically. Nobody knows when Christ was born or to be blunt if he was except for what the bible says.

Anyone have a favorite Elvis song? I can't name one but I always liked his mellower ones like Are you lonesome tonight, Love me tender, Suspicious minds. I even liked one of his last songs that was In The Ghetto. Man he had a great voice.

American Trilogy

Why did you have to go and do that? Now I will be watching and listening to Elvis for the next week!:erm:

I see a bunch of songs there I haven't heard in a long time. Moody Blue was a good one. He just had so many good songs.

I've got a story about meeting Elvis once through a fence in Memphis. But with my Grandson pulling on my arm it'll have to wait til later.
