Extend Sidebar to top
 

I am using vb 4.2.1 & am wondering how I can go about extending the sidebar all the way to the top like the following sites:

http://www.tidefans.com/forums/football/


Thanks for any help you can give me. Once I figure this out I am going to configure the everywhere sidebar mod.

Both those links show the sidebar ending beneath the header and navbar, which is the normal functioning of vBulletin.

Doesn't work like that for me. All announcements and notices appear above the sidebar also and extend 100% from left to right.

I need the sidebar to extend all the way up underneath the navbar.

Announcements and notices do appear above the forumhome tables, in vBulletin, directly under the navbar.

The sidebar will always be even with the tables.

As @Max_Taxable suggested, we really need to see your current CSS, HTML in order to help. You will need to provide a site link, unless you are using the vbulletin default style.

Yep its css and little code alter i have done for one of my android community

look in forumhome and sidebar.css template everything is in there

Thanks guys. I am using the default template. MY site is www.HornSports.com/forums but it is a registration required forum.

I'd like that sidebar to go all the way up top like http://www.tidefans.com/forums/football/

See their notices/announcements are not full width above the sidebar.

The sidebar does not go to the top, in that example either. It is even with the forumhome tables just like it should be.

In your first example of what you wanna be, there's no sidebar visible at all.

Look at where my pointer is, in the image below. That is the top of the forumhome tables and that is where the sidebar is supposed to be.

All the "air" you have above the sidebar is due to the massive welcome message you have there, that Div goes all the way across.

Sorry - it butts up against the bottom of the navigation. That's what I am looking to do.

The sidebar is within the content_container div. Currently. Does it need to be outside of that div?

It does not. It stops even with the forumhome tables, next to it!

YOUR problem is, the massive welcome message Div and the social media icons Div you have. Your sidebar is exactly where it is supposed to be. The example you point to does not have this massive welcome message Div under the breadcrumb, or the social media icons Div, like you have.

Max Taxable, thanks for the assistance. Can you tell me how I can accomplish my goal? Do I reduce the welcome message and social media divs?

Personally Soaringpine, I think the 'air" above the sidebar lets the page breathe. Your site looks really sharp. Use of white space is pagination 101 and in your case it serves as a great CVI (center of visual impact) that holds the eye and makes it want to look around more. I'd leave it. BUT, you want to get rid of your CVI, so....

It is unknown to me at this time how one would try to tie the sidebar to the breadcrumb instead of forumhome. If it could be done it might compress the Divs you have for the social media icons and the welcome message, but I don't know. I would need admin credentials in order to take a look around the settings and the scripts for this.

EXTRA: How much time do your users spend looking at the forum home page? It is hidden from guests, must be logged in to even see it, and I highly doubt anyone is sitting there looking at it. They're out in postbit and in the forums, reading and posting - where there is no sidebar.

One more comment: Why do you even need the massive "Welcome" bit anyway? Only ones who can see it are logged in members, they know where they are and besides, it already says "Welcome" in the top right next to the person's username.

It's superfluous and gratuitous.

Simply cutting out the "Welcome" bit and moving the social media icons to the little breadcrumb bar.
