Admin Push Notifications For Threads
 

Alright, what I am looking for I would think would be a simple mod that has probably been created, but despite my searching I've found nothing.

I've got two mods that I think work great together. One is a mod that adds a nice little Notifications panel to the lower left of my forum when someone has a new notification, the other is using DBtechs Advanced User Tagging.

What I am looking for, is something that would utilize the notifications panel and do something similar to what Force Users to Read Thread does. Basically, instead of forcing the users to read the thread, I want to add a notification in that panel for every user (within a certain group maybe?) that tells them there is a new thread that I'd like for them to view.

So, for instance: I post a thread that I think is important "HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY!!"

I don't want anyone to miss out on the thread (we see a LOT of threads per week)

So I push a notification that shows up in the lower left (and in the notifications drop down) saying there is a new thread the admins think you should view, that then links them to the thread (or to an area that shows all "tagged" threads).

Does something like this exist? Or can it?

Force Users to Read is nice, but if I use it, my members with Tapatalk can't use their phones until they get on the computer and view the thread.

tl;dr - I'm looking for a mod that will let me push notifications of threads I tag to the notifications panel.

I hate to use that shameless bump, but this would be a really great mod if someone could make or find it.

I sent a PM to the author of the mod you linked to, asking if I could release a vb4 version. I haven't looked too closely at it, but it looks like maybe it just needs the template section updated.

Thanks for taking that initiative. I took from the thread that it was attempted in 2011, but that he discontinued his work on his mod. I wish I knew enough about the working of modding VB software, so that I could provide something like this. But I can barely, already, edit what mods I currently use to feature the parts I like best.

When I try to upload, and force upload, this current version, it just says unable.

The current version definitely will not work on vb4. I downloaded it and made the template changes but it seems to require a couple more changes. If I don't hear from the author maybe I'll code one from scratch instead.

That would be awesome. I know something like this would be great for my community, and I would presume many others. Thank you for taking your time to be this helpful.

I haven't heard from the author of the other one so a few days ago I made a start on one of my own. I'll see if I can get back to it over the next few days.

Thanks, I will let you know. But it's a pretty simple mod and I have the key part done, and now that you offered I have motivation to finish so I won't have to abandon it. :)

Well, I was busy so I tried to throw it over to vbNinja, but now if he hasn't had a chance to do it, I'm thinking again about doing it.

Not really, it should just take like a couple of hours of focusing on it. But you know, people have other stuff going on. I'll see if I can get to it today or tomorrow (I know, I probably said that at least once before).

Hey, you've got no pressure from me. You are doing this out of the kindness of your heart, which means you get all the time you could ever need. I'm just pestering because it's something I do need on my forums.

Is this not something that's practically simple to code?

Everything is "simple code", the time consuming process is the logic of your code
The logic for this is fairly simple but I just don't have time right now, I have a bunch ofpaid requests and those have priority

What I want, is the ability to tag a thread so it shows up down in that box (which should also show up in your notifications) saying VIEW THIS THREAD. Kind of like the similar threads option that shows in this very thread, but that mod is dead and doesn't work.

vbNinja - If you could advise how much something like this is worth, compensation is something I would be able to afford you.

I'm still willing to throw some money at you guys to make this mod work.
