Automatic Post Bot - Previously Named Talkerbot

Based on: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=126386

Hey guys,

I was wondering if there was a modification somewhere out there for a bot that automatically posts & has conversations with members. I looked around the vB 4 forums but couldn't find anything. The closest I found was something that was made for vB3, but hasn't been followed up on, or improved upon.

What I am looking for is basically something that interacts sort of like "CleverBot" but can post in almost any topic when sort of activated by a key word or phrase. Basically, just a bot that interacts with the community in some way, shape, or form...

Any help? :P

I dont think there is one yet. You could try using that mod for your current version, backup your files first.

That would be inadvisable, since that mod was coded for a very early version of vBulletin 3, and his board is a vB4.

I installed the post thank you hack https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122944

in vb 4.2.2 and it worked fine until I upgraded to the "likes" system

That has nothing to do with this. The hack he is talking about is a major addition. It would be unwise to try to install it on a v4, that is why he is asking for a v4 version for it.

It is not good advice.

You should not use vB3 mods with vB4, there is only a few that will work, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=269719

Doing otherwise may cause issues on your site.

ZUCCO 12-06-2013 12:21 AM

That was my suggestion, note I said back up first

ozzy47 12-06-2013 12:27 AM

Why would you even tell someone to install something that is not going to work, If you are unsure about something, best thing to do is not respond. :)

Didnt work :(

Koda239 12-06-2013 01:00 AM

I'm going to make a copy and try it on the copy, but I doubt it would end up working. If there isn't one for vB4 or 5, It isn't too big of an issue. Though, for anyone that is thinking of making one, You have an interested person (me). :)

Ahh, you were kidding. How sweet.

Fact is I knew you could NOT have tried it neither can Koda, neither can I or anyone else because the mod does not exist - there are no files to download because it is in the graveyard.

That's why I was waiting to hear your story about how you installed it on a test board and it didn't work, all that. But you must have smelled something was up so you played the "I was just kidding" card.

ozzy47 12-06-2013 01:30 AM

There is no way anyone could try that mod, it is in the graveyard and can not be downloaded.

Sure you may be able to get it from somewhere, but you don't know if it was graveyarded due to a vulnerability, so installing it could put your site at risk.

Even if you could download it, I would not attempt to run it on a vB4 site.

What did you just say? Cool story bro

I still have it somewhere but it will not work with vbulletin 4 whatsoever... It needs a ton of work to make it compatible!

I personally would love to have a Alice BOT for my forums we had tons of fun back in the day reading posts people made to to the bot! The funniest ones were when someone joined the forums looking for help and had no idea they were talking to a bot and they were getting pissed off!

kh99 12-09-2013 01:46 PM

Here's a free php chatbot: http://blog.program-o.com/ . It seems like it would be easy to implement a vb mod, like maybe a cron job to reply to posts randomly or something. But I tried chatting with the demo and it wasn't very impressive.

CoZmicShReddeR 12-09-2013 02:26 PM

The Mod I used for PHPNuke you could load the AIML files into it through the admincp and would make your BOt smarter

Like these:
http://www.alicebot.org/aiml/aaa/

The BOT program I used was first made for PHPBB then converted to PHPNuke might have been called alice bot or modbot

kh99 12-09-2013 03:01 PM

Oh, yeah, that makes more sense. I guess it's meant to be customized for different purposes.

Anyway, if someone wants to try making a mod out of this please post here, otherwise I might give it a try when I get a chance.
