dbseo, will you be getting it?

Seeing as how vbseo is falling apart, db tech announced that they are currently developing a new SEO plugin, called dbseo.

Will you be getting it anytime after it comes out?

The latest release notes for it from here.

Code:

Hey all,

Beta 2 brings a number of bugfixes, mostly for the importer. Additionally, reliability of URL generation has been improved, as stopword filtering is now working as intended in all cases.

I want to thank the beta testers as well for their help getting bugs identified and fixed. The testers who've contributed to Beta updates are: @cruisin, @janslu, @CoZmicShReddeR, @Ozzy47

If you're interested in a Closed Beta spot feel free to send me a PM.
As with Classifieds: Please do be aware that you will not receive a free version of the mod, so please do not apply if you do not intend to purchase the full version after the Closed Beta test ends. You will, however, receive a discount on the full version
The retail price is expected to be $200. Closed beta testers who contribute in the Beta can expect to pay $100 when the Gold version is released.

You can read the Beta 1 announcement with the complete feature list here.

Bug Fixes And Issue Fixes:
Fixed: The "Canonical URL" tag contents was not being rewritten correctly
Fixed: The vBSEO importer would not correctly pick up on multiple URL formats
Fixed: The vBSEO importer would not correctly choose between existing or Custom settings
Fixed: The "Similar Threads" would not correctly display the thread titles in the generated SEO URLs
Fixed: Enabling the "Anonymise External URLs" setting will no longer cause external URLs to redirect to your forum home page
Fixed: The "Social Group Picture File URL" setting had an invalid setting value for one of its options
Fixed: The wrong code was being executed for the "Forum Moderators" cache plugin
Fixed: The mod could cause errors if it was enabled in vBulletin's Product Manager but the .htaccess rewrite rules were not in place
Fixed: Stopwords weren't being filtered from multiple different content titles

Changes To Existing Features:
Changed: The "Anonymise External URLs" setting is no longer default to Enabled
Changed: The "Stopword List" now has a link to the default stopword list
Changed: The description for the "Link Titles: External URLs - Blacklist" setting has been updated to correctly reflect that the domains should be separated by a | and not a line break.
Changed: The wording for the "Deactivated" message has been changed to no longer reference Forum Ads
Changed: The description for the "Enable Modification" setting has been updated to no longer reference visitors seeing a "deactivated" message, as it does not apply to this mod.

Known Issues:
- Character replacements are not working as intended when dealing with UTF-8 characters
- An option to add a prefix to Attachment URLs is missing
- Attachments will sometimes use the wrong content type when generating titles
- Internal Link titles are not being created in some scenarios

As always, thank you for your continued support!

Nope, no need for it. I'm already on the first page of most search results without any SEO plugins.

TheLastSuperman 11-02-2013 08:00 PM

Agreed, with vB4 you have mod rewrite friendly urls which work just fine so why... omdl why is someone creating a new plugin for seo... this does not bode well imo... aye of course they'll code and make money off it but do you all need to spend your money on it? Nope :p.

Also just so you're all aware, there is no "standard" in regards to seo, nor is ANYONE a seo expert, there is no such thing.

When I first started with VB I rather liked the idea of VBSEO. It was pretty straightforward mod with a "set it and forget it" type mentality for the new user.

I had no idea how to rank or even make my site into something Google (and others) would care to index. VBSEO made it a cinch to get started without knowing the fine details needed to make your site attractive to bots/spiders.

It is especially difficult (at least for me) to get ranked when my site is very generic with no specific niche being defined. Using VBSEO did increase my presence on Google, and helped direct new traffic/members to my site.

Like the member above me I bailed on VBSEO when I found my first virus enter my site through the holes in VBSEO that were never updated.

If DBtech is designing a similar mod I say why the heck not? There is a void there now for someone to fill, as I am pretty sure there are still a lot of people out there who still want the "set it and forget it" type learning curve on SEO.

$200 seems a might steep for me at the moment, but I might consider if it ever goes on sale.

$200.00 for SEO on vBulletin 4 - This must be a joke! I sold my vBSEO over 2 years ago, it's easy enough to tweak vB4 for better SEO.

Count me out!

No, there is no need for it. After peoples dealings with vBSEO and their abrupt ending / awful support for a heavy product I don't see this being a successful product for them - although I do wish them the best with it.

DBTECH sees money signs & a gap in the market. They think people will be looking for something like this after vBSEO died.

The best SEO is consistent, unique, valuable content.

I'm surprised that VB is letting them realease a MOD on here for it, I got well slated on another forum where they were asking for beta testers.

I even pointed out that there were existing fixes for the "problem" they were solving, either on here, or elsewhere on the net for free.

I got corrected on the price, they haven't fixed one yet, but the general feeling was that $99 was too much, so why they would think people will pay double that beats me.

Of course there are people out there who will buy it, just as there are people who sleep in a tent in Africa and buy anti-Tiger dust off the locals ( I joke not).

Admins need to realise that apart from the obvious, SEO is as personal as wearing someone elses underpants, you just don't do it.

If there's a direct "VBtoDB" install of it that will let me quickly and easily move my 3.x site over to it without spending half a day making rewrites, I'll definitely be moving to it.

kmplex 12-03-2013 03:38 AM

Yes, if it's VB 3 series..

ozzy47 12-03-2013 03:39 AM

It is available for vB4 and vB3, but only as pro version at the moment.

New Joe 12-03-2013 06:13 AM

Nothing has been mentioned by them though about the VBSEO 'Likes' system it has.
It's big feature we use and I'd like to know if they will have that too with the import over?

ozzy47 12-03-2013 10:31 AM

Would be best to ask a presales question on their site. :)

New Joe 12-03-2013 01:53 PM

That means registering an account and all of that jazz, too lazy to do that...lol

Krusty1231 12-04-2013 02:49 PM

More expensive than VBSEO was. Just based off that thought I will have to pass on it.

This was also a concern of mine when I started beta testing DBSEO.

What I did was move to Dragonbytes Advanced Post Thanks / Like mod which has an importer for VBSEO Likes system, so all your previous likes are easily transferred over to the Dragonbyte mod. Even the free "Lite" version of the Dragonbyte mod has the importer built in for the VBSEO Likes system. The Dragonbyte mod (again even the free Lite version) also offers more options than the VBSEO Likes system ever had. It was about a 10 minute process to switch over, then a little longer to tweak the appearance and settings just the way I wanted.

All in all easy to do and I'm much happier with how the Dragonbyte mod visually displays. All for free and now I have a currently supported mod installed which I couldn't say when I was using the old VBSEO Likes System.

If you're already running vBSEO, and you want to continue to maintain those URLS, and more importantly, your security. Going with DBSEO might be the right choice.

Digital Jedi 12-06-2013 08:14 AM

I'll say that I won't be using DBSEO, but not for any of the reasons mentioned. SEO gives me a headache. I'd rather just build my forum.

gremrock 01-19-2014 09:31 PM

DBSEO is absolutely brilliant. I bought it and being an seo professional i understood their direction. It's worked well for me and i will be buying another one for another project!

Looks like vbseo.com is being updated kindof...
it now redirects to:

cellarius 01-23-2014 06:55 PM

Well at this point little people other than him, if any, knows what he has planned for vbseo but at least it's some kind of progress nonetheless.

True but even if they were to come back at full strength I doubt many would ever trust them again.

If i was looking for a mod like this I would trust dbtech more than Vbseo because they do not just rely on one mod as Vbseo did. I mean I doubt dbtech would go under like vbseo did.

You sure are handing out the word "progress" lavishly.
