[Solved] Site Is Only Functional With Plugins Disabled

After a few days of downtime I ended up disabling all plugins via config.php everything popped back up immediately. So I went through and manually disabled all plugins and turned them back on in config.php and in the forum options.

Even with them all disabled individually I can turn the option for plugins to on and the site 500's on me.

I'm lost, something is killing the site and turning off the plugin/hook system fixes it but how do I diagnose what it is if I can't go one by one and check?

Are you sure there are no plugins running, ACP --> Plugins & Products --> Plugin Manager

final kaoss 10-26-2013 12:40 AM

It may or may not help but what plugins are installed? Give us a full list.

And especially the most recently installed ones, since I am assuming this is a new problem.

Yes, they all have slashes through them.

The most recently installed was technically vboptimise I did that while the forum was down because I thought it was a database size issue. But before that it was probably panjo when I upgraded to 4.2.2 and before that it was Spam 0 Matic, the rest have been there for months at least.

Thanks for the replies :)

I don't know if I can do much, but if you want:

Could you please create and PM me with a temporary FTP and AdminCP account? And a link to your site.

For security reasons, I recommend you create a new FTP account only for me, then disable or delete it after we have both confirmed the issue has been solved and there are no further issues.

The same applies to AdminCP accounts, they should ideally be temporary accounts created for me only.

If you use a .htaccess password protection for your AdminCP directory, it is recommended that you create a new authorised user for me and remove this user once the issue has been solved.

Please test any temporary accounts you create to ensure that the FTP account has access to the forum files, and that the AdminCP account can access all administrative controls.

Ensuring this is all in order before submitting the information will significantly speed up the process of assisting you. I will alert you via PM if there's any issues with the login information you have provided.

When sending the PM, for your security you should also un-tick the "Save a copy in my Sent Items folder" checkbox. When the access details have been received, I will delete the PM from my inbox. Ensuring you have not kept a copy of the PM reduces the risk of security breaches.

Sorry I didn't realize you had to uncheck all of the boxes in order to turn them off I assumed once you disabled them they were disabled.

Thanks again everyone sorry for the noob mistake...

How was this solved?

ozzy47 10-26-2013 01:48 AM

Did you find out which plugin is causing the issues?

I didn't realize you had to uncheck the boxes in product manager, I thought you could just disable them and if they had a line through them they were disabled.

Not yet, going through 1 by 1 now. I will report back. I'm updating a few of the plugins that I'm finding have newer versions.

So, it's not solved?

If you disable something in the Product Manager, all of the plugins tied to that product will become disabled (though I suspect you meant plugin manager). If a plugin has a line through it in the Plugin Manager, it IS disabled.

Though if you simply uncheck the boxes and don't hit the "Save Active Status" at the bottom, nothing will actually get disabled.

All I know is they all showed a line through them but had checkmarks buy them, when I flipped the switch to globally activate plugins the site didn't work. When I went through 1 by 1 and unchecked them all and then globally activated plugins it worked.

The weird thing is when I went 1 by 1 turning them back on I turned every single one back on and the forum is fine. The only thing I can think is 1 of my plugins was out of date and maybe that did it but even that is odd because why would it break just out of the blue?

I guess I should start another thread because now everytime in quick reply users see

"This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave - data you have entered may not be saved."

and some are reporting

"Warning: Only variables should be passed by reference in ..../newreply.php on line 389"

Both of which I understand other people have but I've yet to find a fix for 4.2.2

You could simply disable the feature.
