Adding H2 Tags To Board Names On Forumhome

How do I add H2 tags around the board names on my forumhome? I've done it with JQuery using the .wrap tag, but it doesn't appear as if search engines are able to view it. Is there anyway I can manually input H2 tags around the board names?

Look in the forumbit templates like forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost and find
HTML Code:

<a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]">$forum[title]</a>
and change them for
HTML Code:

<h2><a href="forumdisplay.php?$session[sessionurl]f=$forum[forumid]">$forum[title]</a></h2>

Thanks, Simon, that did it!

Glad you're sorted, just make sure you changed all the forumbit templates where that's found :)

Thanks, I've now added it to all.

I hate to ask another question so soon, but are you aware of how I could add the h2 tags around each topic in the forumdisplay.php section? I literally tried putting an h2 on every a href link in the document and nothing took. :(

What line number(s) in 'forumdisplay.php' or are you talking about 'FORUMDISPLAY' the template?

I'm talking about the template and I want h2's around every thread that's created.

Simon Lloyd 09-30-2013 04:46 AM

You can do that but do you want it in forumhome or forumdisplay?

tbworld 09-30-2013 06:43 AM

Display a section of the template where you added the <h2> elements, so we can see where you went wrong. Then we can point you in the right direction.

We were all beginners at some point :)

Simon Lloyd 09-30-2013 07:23 AM

What you want is the forumhome_forumbit_level2_post template, and this <td class="alt2">$forum[lastpostinfo]</td> however you will not be able to make this H2 or whatever without changing the css for it, anyway that's what you need to change for forumhome :)

Thanks @simon_Lloyd, now I see what he is after...

So please let me know if I am on the wrong track. You are trying to increase your SEO by adding <h2> elements. If that is the case then the JavaScript approach obviously will not work because that is only seen in your browser under the DOM and the search engines only read the raw stream.

If it is not the case CSS is the easy answer.

Ok, so there was some confusion over what I was trying to do.

Initially, I was trying to add h2 tags around board names on the main page, which I did with the help of Simon.

Next, I was trying to add h2 tags on the inner board pages around topic titles. For instance:

"Google's Birthday: 15 Years Old!"
Tech Forum

I eventually figured it out. It was located in the threadbit and not the forumdisplay template, which is strange to me but I got it working.

@tbworld

Yep, you were right about the Javascript not being readable by search.

Simon Lloyd 10-01-2013 05:40 AM

Yep you should have mentioned "inner forums" that's forumdisplay template and the others associated with it.

Glad you're sorted but a word of warning, don't make your site too ugly by getting blinded with trying to get your google rankings up otherwise your site wont be appealing, you'll lose visitors and your rankings will drop anyway.

Use this tool http://www.seositecheckup.com/tools it will help you spot areas in which you can improve (don't get hung up on the H tags)
