Your Hobby

Since we have new member threads and what kind of music do you like threads, I though I'd start a, "Your Hobby" thread. I'll start.

I fly RC aircraft. Quads mainly. I've tried my hand at heli models but just couldn't find the handle. With quads the built in flight electronics keep them stable making them a real joy to fly.
My DJI Phantom just came in so I'm off to put that together and go flying.

Building computers, hacking my Android phone and tablet and riding my Ninja. I have always wanted to do some stuff with rc but just do not have the money. I would love to get one of these 4 blade drones with the camera. Awesome..

My main hobby is that of an Amateur Radio Operator. Call sign, K4GAP.

I've logged calls to and from the ISS, 2 space shuttle's, and over a thousand foreign contacts.

Wow, That is awesome!!

When I was a kid many back in the early 80's I was into cb radios. I had a big directional "Beam" antenna on the roof and everything. I really wanted to get into shortwave and ham but just never got around to it. Reading this about logging calls from iss really makes me regret not pursuing it more. I would have expected to log some international communications but never would have expected space calls!!

It's not to late to become a Ham. Morse code is no longer a requirement. You can take practice tests here. That site might require registration.

Like the passion @Gary.

I still hold a "first class" and "amature" license but have not done anything with them for years -- except pay the yearly license fee. For a short time I was an engineer at a TV broadcasting station and many of the technicians were into amature radio so I messed with it a bit. Then I had kids.

For the past several weeks I've been playing around with my quad chopper shooting video around the area I live in. I'm currently in the process of upgrading the video camera on my drone to one that has ir

See I didn't even realize this thread was up but already I like it! I had no clue you could chat with a space shuttle over cb, ever - that is pretty nice to read about.

As for me right now a giant action figure mountain for my son :D
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...1781092&type=1

Although it still has a long way to go including the outer shell (use pool "noodles" the foam ones to cut up and do the walls then wrap them in plaster so they're still light weight w/ the foam but the plaster makes the walls) then there's the 15ft of high power LED's (with a remote by goodness it flashes for red alerts and such does 16 different colors and more functions like flash, fade, diy programmable buttons etc) to include inside before constructing the inner rooms and btw I'm using shoe boxes wrapped in plaster cloth then painted so he can remove all of them and replace with others so one day this can be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles base the next day for G.I. Joe or X-Men even! When it's completed it should be pretty slick and best part is he can fit under the bottom light it up inside while playing.

Next I'm converting a Superman shelf I lasercut into a LaLa-Loopsy village - well wife said throw it away, no ma'am it's a good shelf! I'll find a way to use it I thought so I'll be covering it with plaster cloth but first must make the hills, the trees and everything else SEW MAGICAL (lol).

Of course I work on computers and build them too but only for close friends so unless you already knew ya never heard it here :p.

You can not talk to the shuttle with a cb radio.

But if you could, what would be (well, would have been) a good handle for the space shuttle?

TheLastSuperman 07-23-2014 09:56 PM

Yeah, those into amateur radio seriously. You tend to see massive (very tall) poles (usually white) in their garden used for the aerial, taller than the house.

ForceHSS 07-24-2014 05:17 PM

I use to ride horses and quads and I loved it, but I sold my quad some years ago as there was no where to ride it where I lived and the place I use to live the guy next door had horses. I moved away so I can't do that anymore, I miss both a lot. Now I code and help who I can I do enjoy it so much but due to problems that many know about I can't even do that well at least I can help a bit with some helpful answers to some posts.
