Three piece header review

I've spent 8 hours getting the header just as I like it. Have not been focused AT ALL on most of the site as it is my test site.

Please let me know if I wasted 8 hours.

UPDATE:
I have moved on from this particular project, the links and graphics no longer exist.

Max Taxable 08-27-2013 03:47 PM

Nicely done! Shrinks and stretches seamlessly!

That one's too bizzy. Looks good, but very very bizzy.

tbworld 08-27-2013 08:55 PM

@Gary, overall I like it. I think your site is looking better all the time. I like the fact that it is not busy. I think it "represents" man. :)

I speak math, I am really terrible at colors. I know what I like, but at the same time I can never get it there.

I've done more layouts for clan sites than I care to remember. They (clan members) prefer dark and flashy sites. I do this all for fun and have no other activities do to I'm disabled so, I do a lot of tinkering.

It amazes me on this site how many styles the members like so much that are nothing more than a few variants of colors with no self made images or, change of layout.

Oh well, to each his own I reckon.

TheLastSuperman 08-27-2013 08:58 PM

Gary you've come a long way from the time I first met you on here, 8 hours or not the point is you finished it and now understand more about css I'm sure ;) so bravo is all I have to say!

If there's anything I can ever help ya with let me know. But I have to warn ya, I know very little about coding. I've been told my forte is mid level graphics. I call it mid level because from time to time I'll come up with something I think is magnificent and others remind me I'm no Van Gogh :)

It's sharp though, would like to see it live and see how you worked out the collapse.

It's folks like yourself and Lynne that keep things going around here. If I were to ever run into either of you I just know a big ol porter house steak would be in order :)

Thanks for all you do.

I complemented you on your 3-piece header. I then told Force the one he posted was a bit busy. You quoted that post of mine, which wasn't to you, and replied.

Who's confused? Look at post #2.

K4GAP 08-27-2013 11:11 PM

What confused me was force answering what I thought was intended for me. I'm short on sleep so it's easy to confuse me right now :)

It's okay if you "like" post #2 though. :D

I really dig your work on this 3-piece, it's very fluid on size changes.

Here is a link showing the code I used to make the header (thanks to Lynne for the guidance).

Yes, I replied to you in that thread, showed you my 3-piece header I've had for three years. You quoted me even, and said thanks, in the very post you've linked above.

My comment about how the OTHER image I was talking about was directed at ForceHSS. Because as busy as that header he posted here was, I was curious where the seams were. But alas, can't view it live because he can't give out the link.

That particular image (that force shared in his post) can't be three piece and also have any flex at all. (as commonly used)

It is a three-piece header, the image he posted is just a screengrab of it. As he told us, he can't give us the link to where it is a live, three-piece header because the site owner doesn't want the link given out.

K4GAP 08-28-2013 05:30 PM

Since you want to agree it is a three piece header, where would the flex area be? In the center? can't be, the soldier in the center of the image would be deformed if page was re-sized. On either left or right side? Why would a person make it three piece if the center image was not the part that flexed.

What gaming clan would not want their site address known? I'm a gamer and run two sites (not vbulletin) I've done three piece headers for different non vb sites using tables (no css) for over 10 years. I may be a rookie with vb but not e-107 or straight old timey html done with Komposer.

Just sayin ...

That's why I was asking to see it live and said I was interested to see how he made it work!

So we're finally back where I was, 15 posts ago!

I mean, you can ask ForceHSS this stuff. I have no idea. I'm taking the man at his word same as I am taking you at your word.

Right. I just said, "Hey your work looks nice" and it's all this.;)

KevinL 08-29-2013 01:58 PM

Looks nice but breaks when re sizing the browser. Should make the min-width like 800px...

Makes sense to me, thanks I'll give it a go.

****

Looked at it on my running site (not test site) and, you are right, it does break but not until the window is re-sized below 850px. I can live with that.

I tried your suggestion and changed the auto fill (center) to 800px. It must be the code I'm using but the entire header shrank?

The image below represents the header just before it breaks.

http://www.livinginkentucky.com/file...eaderat800.png

Notice that the window is so small the navlinks are almost to the search box.

tbworld 08-30-2013 06:22 AM

When I get a chance Gary, I will take a look at the CSS on your site and see if I can give you a hand with that minor problem. Send me your running site link. Since you have fishing on your site <grin> I will sign on as a new member. :)

When I get tired of technology, it's fishing, hiking, golf, watching football and a bit of nascar. I live at the beach on the west coast, so you can find me fishing on any stressful day :)

Thanks for the info.
I'll have to start digging around to find as fix for that.

Thanks
