vbseo is now dead - BUT I need help running vbseo on my 3.8.7 forum
I have a 3.8.7 vbulletin forum, was running vbseo 3.3.2 and all was well.
Recently vbseo convinced me to upgrade at least to vbseo 3.5.0 PL2 I finally got around to doing it yesterday, and now my site links don't work (are not SEO optimized) and tables and images are not loading properly. Anyone know anything about this issue? I would be happy to revert to 3.3.2 but am not sure how to do that. vbseo's website is down, emails to them are returned undeliverable - the company has closed down entirely. |
Same problem. Tried to upgrade a while ago - their system would not let me, I wrote to support never heard back. Today, about 12 hours ago, MySQL and Apache load went way up, all links have reverted to original "showthread.php?t=xxxx" format and VBSEO.com is down for the count.
I have a hunch that it's doing a license check, which fails / times out, and then stops working. If someone has the "final" version of VBSEO and a way to hack out the license check please contact me. I will send the upgrade fee to the charity of your choice and donate the money in a name of your choice - there is no way to purchase an upgrade to the final version from VBSEO and this problem is critical. EDIT: I also cannot log in to the VBSEO backend via my VB3.8.7pl3 anymore. Assume the problem is related. --------------- Added [DATE]1375369357[/DATE] at [TIME]1375369357[/TIME] --------------- Solution here: http://admin-talk.com/threads/dear-v...y?quote=494594 |

I am not convinced that the problem is because the license check is not working. Anyway, I gave up on the 3.5.0 PL2 I deleted all traces of 3.5.0 PL2 - all traces whatsoever of vbseo - and reinstalled 3.3.2 But then I had the same issue with license check!
So, in desperation, I restored the entire site to the way it was before the ill fated upgrade. (I did not touch the SQL databases of course.) All is well now - or at least as it was - with 3.3.2 This soured me badly to vbseo, and if I decide to upgrade my site to vbulletin 4.2.1 or whatever the latest version of vb 4 is, I will not use vbseo at all. I have another forum running vb 4.2.1 with NO vbseo in it, and it works fine. There seems to be no real need for vbseo with vbulletin 4 and above. Also, although vbseo's website is back up, their SUPPORT section of the website is not up at all, and the ticket I created for this issue two days ago has not been answered. As well, the email to their "techical staff" is returned undeliverable. The last communication I received from vbseo was many days ago when they told me that they have no plans to create any future versions of vbseo - no further updates - and nothing for vbulletin 5. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....7&postcount=14 |
VB4 has no need for vbseo :)

If anyone DOES have problems with the key activation not working. Or the license not updating, give me a shout and I can help you get it working once again.
I already helped a few people and they are STILL using the latest vBSEO on their forums. |
Why not just post the solution here?

A client of mine still has 3.60 and his site was hacked due to the exploit in that version. I have secured it for now but would like to upgrade his Vbseo package. ofcourse he has no access to the upgrade.
I have a license myself and the latest version. Do you think it is possible to upgrade his site using my license/package? --------------- Added [DATE]1386980586[/DATE] at [TIME]1386980586[/TIME] --------------- Quote:

I would doubt it. But if you want to try, you would have to do a full backup of his site, then try it, so if it blows up, you can restore the backup.
|
Yeah, I didn't think it would work but it would be the easiest method rather than remove his old version and than mess with redirects, etc.
I have done my best to secure his site but as long as that vbseo file is right there in the forum root it would be fairly easy to hack again. Anyhow, thanks for the reply. |

I say that with much irony, reason being "latest version" or not its still outdated and prone to security issues. The company does not exist i.e. no one has been updating it to fix any security issues... :( and yes even at the time your post was made, this was true then and still holds true now. Quote:

I made some changes to the code and it works perfectly for me. If you need the changes let me know. |

When most assume its ok to use and "you can use the last version they released it still works" to me that is the same as saying "here buddy install this two year old shopping cart software I have a copy of it from two years ago before they started charging and placing copyright in footer, you can use the 2 year old version and its fine" <-- Despite the fact if anyone said that they'd be wrong, I'm sure the new version has updates and more so updates to fix vulnerabilities that have been found since then... case in point this isn't even a situation like that, now we're back to the point of no business/team exist to state (also backed by their company, legal actions that could be taken if required by you the consumer if done wrong etc, and other merits) that its safe and secure to use. That my friend is why I can't trust many when I see that statement made, I may not know their skill level and ability i.e. if they're qualified to upkeep such a script however I do know logic and logic tells me the company is not around anymore and no one is keeping any aspect of it up to date. |
