Demo: http://www.christeris.net/dev42/coupons.php
Demo Accounts:
demouser1 / demopass1
demouser2 / demopass2
demouser3 / demopass3
1.- How it works
  • Depending on his usergroup permissions a user can post a discount coupon for a product or service. He can set the discount percentage which appears in a nice way in the frontend to attract members.
  • Members of your site (having permissions to order) can browse per category, or search in many ways (eg location), to find out the best offer.
  • After clicking "Get Coupon", they'll get a confirmation PM, plus the seller's contact details, to obtain the product in discounted price.
  • Simple ....but works fine.
2.- Features
  • Unlimited depth of categories
  • Unique and very nice interface
  • Use realtime countdown for coupon expiration
  • Has PM templates for:
    • PM user when admin approves the coupon
    • PM user when admin rejects the coupon
    • PM buyer a confirmation message with seller's contact details
    • PM seller when a user places an order
    • PM seller when a coupon goed out of stock
    • PM seller when a coupon expires
    • PM Buyer who won, on the Auction's expiration
    • PM Seller with Buyer's details on the Auction's expiration
  • Supports 5 statuses:
    • Open
    • Hidden
    • Expired
    • Out of stock
  • There are listings for:
    • Category coupons
    • Timeframe (What's New) coupons
    • Search Results
3.- Usergroup Permissions
  • Can Access the Coupons section (See the Tab menu, see listings).
  • Can Post a Coupon
  • Can Order a Coupon
  • Coupon posts needs or not approval. For trusted usergroups set it to No
  • Maximum amount of concurrent (active) coupons
4.- Installation
  1. Download and unzip the file Coupons_XXXX.zip
  2. Upload the content of upload folder to the directory where your vB installation is. As a check: coupons.php must be on the same directory as global.php, forum.php etc. This Mod os not working out of vB installation directory.
  3. CMOD 777 the directories:
    1. christeris/coupons/photos
    2. christeris/coupons/photos/thumbs
  4. Goto Admincp and import product-coupons.xml. Double check before if you have another product with the same name.
  5. Set the various settings in Coupons->General settings
  6. Set usergroup permissions
  7. Check and modify if you want PM templates.
  8. Set categories
5.- SEO URLs
  • If you're using vbSeo open the file Coupons_vBSEO_Custom_Rewrite_Rules.txt and add them to your vbSeo installation.
  • If you're using .htaccasse file copy the contents of htaccess.txt and add it to your current .htaccess files. If you don't have such file and your server is compatible with such files, upload htaccess.txt to your vB directory and rename it to: .htaccess
6.- Copyright Link

Since the time that DBTech released their Copyright Manager, I've removed my own copyrights. I found their action insulting me to maximum. Their wording "Site is powered by vBulletin AddOns and Modules by Dragonbyte Tech" (and not "Some parts of this site"), means that everything there is their own work, ignoring on the worst way the fact that there are 100's of other coders and designers who are supporting this community for years. So, I'm letting the glory to them. No copyrights from my side.

Enjoy it

Nice mod Chris!

Morrus 06-17-2013 06:13 PM

Could you clarify how this works? It posts a formatted classified ad which, if you click on it, sends you a PM with the contact details of the ad poster?

No, its not a Classifieds addon. I've seperate (free) addons here for Classifieds (or Auctions). This is a mod to offer special offers to members. eg I've a Pizza restaurant and I want to attract clients. I'm posting in your site a coupon code (eg PIZZA123) and if someone will use it during ordering (ordering real pizza), I'll give him a 10% discount.

OK, but what distinguishes between a "classified" and a "coupon"? I'm not sure what this mod specifically does differently to a classified, other than that it is called a "coupon". One could post a classified saying "Coupon PIZZA123", presumably? Or is there additional functionality I'm completely missing?

It depends on the point of view. Trying to make simple: Classifieds = Sales, Coupons = Offers. Nobody said that a Classified script can't work for coupons and vs. But even in Hotscripts.com these type of scripts are in seperate categories.

To use another example. Dating ads are also "Classifieds". But as you maybe know their are in different category. Job offer are also "Classifieds", but they have their own scripts.

That's all.

This is not a discussion of other modifications, other coders, or a discussion of staff actions.

I do agree. Was my mistake to comment on CD comment. But as for other coders. "Respect if you want to be respected". Ofcourse I don't mean you but DBT. As they don't respect us, I'll never respect them, and I'll continue saying it on every chance.

Chris,
Looking at your demo page there seems to be a formatting issue. http://www.christeris.net/dev42/coupons.php

Sorry, I'm honestly not trying to be awkward. I'm just trying to get my head around these scripts.

So they're basically the same scripts but with different names and slightly different layouts? (Not that that's a problem - in fact that might be a strength; I'm just trying to understand).

I promise I'm not trying to annoy you. I'm just trying to work out the correct solutions for my needs.

Morrus 06-19-2013 07:33 PM

OK, I think I get it. And I think it'll be pretty useful! As CharlieDelta says, though, the layout is broken on your demo site.

Morrus 06-19-2013 08:31 PM

I've installed this and played a little. Looks cool!

Couple of issues:

- the red/green price colour font changes don't work [Edit - that's weird. it's suddenly working now!]

And feature requests, if you're taking them (don't worry if you're not):

- where something is $0 it really should have "free!" or something there

- and finally: is there any way it can calculate the % drop or the price drop if the user enters one or the other? I had a devil of a time trying to remember how to work out what % $3 off $12.99 was! Haven't done that in years!

Morrus 06-19-2013 09:54 PM

Spoke too soon.

OK, so I enter a coupon, but it's cutting it off after 25 characters. The site I sell my products at (rpgnow.com) has much longer coupon codes than that.

Morrus 06-19-2013 10:12 PM

Same layout issue as reported above. Fixed it my removing width=50% from the first line of the coupons_categories_bit, but I don't know how permanent a fix that is! (Edit - yeah, adding a fourth coupon then makes things worse; it's trying to squeeze them all into the first row).

Exactly this. Another example is the Auto classifieds. They're normal classifieds but they're using different layout and different questions relevant to autos.

Let it to me :) . I read Charlie's report from the email, but I had an unexpected personal issue so I haven't the time to work on this. Today I'm free so I can work on any reported issue.

Morrus 06-20-2013 06:28 PM

Bit confused over approving user coupons.

I can see there's a coupon waiting, and I can approve or disapprove it. I can't actually look at it n order to decide whether it should be approved or disapproved though. Am I missing something?

Morrus 06-22-2013 11:19 AM

So, any luck fixing that little layout issue?

Morrus 06-25-2013 05:49 PM

Well, uninstalling, I guess.
