What is Follow User?
Follow User from DragonByte Tech is a modification designed to allow members to follow one another in different social aspects of the forum. When a followed user completes an action such as a new post or a new thread, the followers receive either an email and/or PM updates based on their preference.

Follow User allows users to follow one another and get notifications when the member they follow complete certain actions.

Email and private messaging notifications, usergroup permission controls, and privacy options are all included in this product.

I think it would be good to have an option to have it added to the user profile, and instead get a notification and when you click on your notification you get sent to your profile tab for it instead of having a pm.

DragonByte Tech 01-02-2013 07:28 PM

So a visitor message notification? Or where you think of something else?

Draffi 01-02-2013 08:44 PM

+1
This icon would be perfect either in the postbit legacy or the post footer etc

Ah! It's so clear to me now. Definitely a "will add" feature.

SpikeSaunders 01-06-2013 12:28 AM

This is great idea!
The only thing stopping me from downloading/installing it right now is that for my forum's purpose's, as users are part of particular groups, it would be awesome if the 'group' itself could be followed in this way. So any member in GroupZ, which is subscribed to to follow, when they post a new thread, those followers are alerted.

Any chance of a feature like this being added? :)

DragonByte Tech 01-07-2013 01:50 PM

If you post it in our support forums here: http://www.dragonbyte-tech.com/forumdisplay.php?f=200 it'll get recorded in our system and taken into consideration :)

Great mod, thanks! Some suggestions...

1. Add a link to follow or unfollow a member to postbit and member profile.
2. Add a "follower" and "following" count to postbit and member profile.
3. Create a page with a table of top members being "followed" or "following" including links to follow or unfollow each, and make it sortable (e.g: most / least followers, etc).
4. Add content types for creates album, posts visitor message, creates calendar entry, etc.

In the settings shown on the Usergroup Edit page, there is a setting "Is Manager". What exactly does it mean? Does it grant access to part of the settings for this plugin?

artcrimes 01-24-2013 11:00 AM

Ohh very nice plugin!

diddy29 01-25-2013 01:07 AM

Hope my question in post #17 can be answered.

We've installed this and like it! Time will tell, but so far it's working! We have it set up so that only staff know about it, so that staff can 'follow' problem users to keep track of them better.

A feature request for a future release: I personally feel that a seperate tab on your profile for following would be better than sending PM's or emails. So to clarify, have lt similar to the Friends tab. So you get a notification (like you do for a friends request), you click on that notification and it takes you to your following tab on your profile (that only you can view).

If I understand the file structure correctly, no all that does is over rides all the other settings, like having them all Yes.

Thanks for your help and consideration. Keep making awesome mods! :-)

DragonByte Tech 01-27-2013 11:06 PM

Hi everyone,

This update is basically a bugfix / performance release, with a few requests added as well.

If you like the product you can show your support by nominating it for mod of the month and also please rate it to help cancel out the users who 1 star our mods.

As always, please make sure you revert any templates you may have changed in order to take full advantage of the update.

Also report any issues you find asap so I can get them sorted quickly. ;)

Well without further ado here is the list of stuff.

Bug Fixes And Issue Fixes:
  • Fixed a issue where you would get a notification on posts when type is set to thread.
  • Fixed a issue when you updated your following settings, you would not get a re direct message informing you of successful changes.
  • Fixed a issue where users could be followed if they were in a usergroup that was not allowed follows.

Changes To Existing Features:
  • Removed the setting Is Manager from Usergroup Permissions as it was really a defunct setting.
  • Added html markup support for usernames on the Follow User settings page.

Additions To Product From Feature Requests Or Just Something Else Added:
  • Option to show signature in the pm sent to users who are following someone.
  • Option to show users avatars now show on the Follow User settings page.
  • Clicking on users name on the Follow User settings page, will now re direct you their profile.
  • Ability to select which usergroups can have "Private" follows.
  • Ability to show the users follow / following count in the postbit.
  • Option to choose seven different locations in the postbit to display the users follow / following count.

Chris

SpikeSaunders 01-27-2013 11:25 PM

Oooh! Will be checking out the usergroup's portion tomorrow hoping this is what I was needing! Awesome Chris.

DragonByte Tech 01-28-2013 12:00 AM

If you are talking about what you requested here, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....99&postcount=9 then that has not been added yet.

Chris

Speedy131 01-28-2013 12:17 AM

another idea for content type to add: attachments

DragonByte Tech 01-28-2013 12:47 AM

I don't know if that one is possible, but if you follow posts or threads and they post attachments, you would still get the notice.

Chris

Speedy131 01-28-2013 01:01 AM

true, but a follower may not be interested in the post if it doesn't contain new attachments ... I know this probably only applies to certain types of forums
To complete it, it would also need to be able to track new attachments in an album.

Well just thinking out loud, this mod is actually pretty cool the way it is :)

DragonByte Tech 01-28-2013 01:36 AM

It will be looked into during a future update of the mod. :)

Aww I misread the notes then. Still here is to hoping!

diddy29 01-28-2013 10:29 AM

Thanks for the update! For the update is all we need to do to upload the xml file again? Or the other stuff to the server as well?

DragonByte Tech 01-28-2013 11:02 AM

Upload the new files to your server just as you did on initial install, then import the new xml allowing overwrite.

Where To Show In PostBit > User Info Right After Posts (Legacy & Horizontal)

Does not show correctly , conflict with [DBTech] vBActivity & Awards v3 (vB4) ? Please can you check and fix on this issue ? Also try to add locations to show "Postbit Controls Area (Legacy & Horizontal)"

Attachment 143505

DragonByte Tech 01-28-2013 07:29 PM

Then you would have to manually place it in the template and prefix the code with a <br /> or two depending on how it lines up.

As for Postbit Controls Area I don't believe I will be adding it there as a option, cause it will cause to many alignment issues in that area, but I will test it out during the next feature update and see if it will work there.

Chris

bfdzio 01-29-2013 02:14 PM

Can't get this to e-mail. I select it, it reverts back to PM.

Also am I the only one who isn't getting a redirect or is it not built in? Every time I submit anything on this, it just goes to a blank page (my board is there just the spot where the submit and form was just goes away). It saves everything (except if I chose e-mail) but just seems off.

DragonByte Tech 01-30-2013 01:33 AM

The redirect was addressed in the latest version, as far as the email issue, I'll look into it and report back when there is a fix.

It worked when the owner tried adding it. I think it required FTP.
The product is great. Thanks for it. :)

DragonByte Tech 01-30-2013 10:54 AM

Yeah it requires ftp, or cpanel access as you have to load files to the server. Thanks for reporting back.
