There is currently no log that show in vBulletin. I've sent you a PM on the way to check with your key.

I've added the picture.

you need to make it if you block a country it redirects them to there own internal ip

Hostboard 12-03-2012 12:25 PM

What method are you using to block countries?
Personally I was hoping for VB to support IP prefixes which it does not. Instead you have to list out each and every IP. Even with wild cards it is a pita...

When I saw this I was hoping I would be able to use my own zone files a they do updated periodically. Does the modification talk back to your server(s) in order to get this list or is it apart of this modification? I have not looked at the XML file directly as of yet...

It blocks them by IP address, but you don't type in IP address to block them. You will enter the country code for the country, like CN or US, each separated by a comma if you want to block more than one. Yes it does talk back to the server. Our IP lists on the server are alway up to date even with current changes.

BoxerPrimer 12-03-2012 06:00 PM

Thanks, just installed it. Lets see how it does with new spam registrations. Would really appreciate if Anti Spam software could prevent users awaiting email conformation/moderation from appearing in the whose online list while retaining the guest count.

Installed

doctorsexy 12-04-2012 10:18 AM

Well didnt get very far with this one uninstalled due to interfering with DragonByte Tech shoutbox...

BoxerPrimer 12-04-2012 01:17 PM

Working great for me so far, about 85 % decrease in new spammer registrations. +1

Will this have any slowing effect on my server?

RamdonGhai 12-04-2012 04:22 PM

too many false positives, I had to disable this

No, I have a couple very high traffic vb forums and it doesn't effect my server at all.

What was it doing? I'm using shoutbox on one of my forums and it has no effect.

Yeah that's very interesting, because it only hooks into 2 hooks.

newpost_complete - if you use the post scan.
register_addmember_process - for the registration checks.

Its a very light mod.

doctorsexy 12-05-2012 02:51 PM

Would there be a fix for this....

koneil 12-05-2012 03:04 PM

I'm looking into it. What version of shoutbox do you have?

doctorsexy 12-05-2012 03:47 PM

DragonByte Tech: vBShout (Pro) 6.1.0

It looks like we are both using the newpost_complete. Looks like it was the executionorder, I set mine to a lower number and re-uploaded the XML file.

doctorsexy 12-05-2012 06:24 PM

That did the trick..thanks

BoxerPrimer 12-08-2012 07:14 PM

Been using it for a week now. Happy to report that spam registrations have dropped from about 250 everyday to about 10 a day !

Would love to have a country safe list in the next version like the country block list option. I.e I should be able to add my country to the safe list, anyone registering from my country should not be flagged as spam.

Good support as well. Overall 5 Stars.

koneil 12-10-2012 04:57 PM

When updating version, uninstall and then reinstall.

v1.3 - Added section to Allow or Block countries. Last version only blocked countries.

BoxerPrimer 12-16-2012 10:50 AM

Thanks. Allow / Block countries is working a little weird though. There should be two lists Allow & Block not Allow OR Block.

If for example I choose to allow the US then all other countries will be blocked or I can't block indivual ones. Example if I choose Block UK then all other countries except UK will be able to register but if I choose to Allow UK then all other countries except UK will be blocked !

What do I do when I want to allow US and UK but block China ?? This is currently not possible.

An ideal way would be to have two lists, one for Block and the other for Allow. This would let me allow the countries that I want on my safe list and block spamming destinations like China or Ukraine. Nothing from the country on the Allow list should be blocked.

Btw the support from the developers is quite good. I get email updates of spam attacks with IP, countries and spammers email info.

In this scenario it sounds like those are the only two countries you would like to allow, so you would set the countries to ALLOW and put US,UK in the allow country list. All the other countries will be blocked.

The idea is to narrow down what countries you want to Allow or Block. If you just want to block countries from your site then set it to Block and enter the list of countries you don't want to register. Example.. I don't want China, Ukraine and Poland to register to my site, so I set it to BLOCK and enter the country code of those countries. If just want to allow countries I would set it to ALLOW enter just the countries I want to register, US,UK,JP

It actually works the way you want it to, you want to allow US and UK but block China and Ukraine. Two ways of doing this, you can either ALLOW the two countries you want or block the countries you don't want. Its easier to ALLOW if you already know the countries you want. So set it to ALLOW and put US,UK in the country list. If you want to BLOCK, set it to BLOCK and put CN,UA in the country list. This will do exactly what you want it to do.

Great news, we're working on some new things that I hope it helps forum owners get an idea on what happening to their forum.

3. Finished.

What did you set the execution order to? I've changed in the xml file. If you turn off the post checks does it work?

doctorsexy 12-20-2012 05:33 PM

changed it to 4

Try the one that I uploaded, its set to 8. 4 won't work because it has to be after shout box, that's what my test have shown.

doctorsexy 12-20-2012 06:11 PM

working now..thanks

You're welcome!

Hope everyone that downloaded and installed got their website statistics page yesterday. For you that don't know, we send out a page that give you stats about your forum. We will be adding more statistics in the future. With these stats you can really determine where people are trying to register from and help cut down on spam.

This has to be the best functional MOD I ever had the pleasure of using. My SPAM Junk from every former eastern block country to China has come to a complete halt. "NO MORE SPAM" Of course it works better on my site because it is tailored for US Military Veterans. But none the less it works perfectly for me. Great Job. ***** Five Stars
