any mod to block user by country

hi, is there any mod that can block the entire country from vietnam to our forum?

TheSupportForum 10-04-2012 08:52 AM

you can do this in your .htaccess file

you need to know there CIDR IP range

if you place this in your .htaccess file

deny from 183.0.0.0/8

---
this is the North Vietnamese Bad Bot IP Range

there too much ip range. its hard to list them all down. everyday i found new ip all from vietnam, i wonder why there so much spam bot there? what do they gain?

there is a MOD that will help stop spammer registering on your website if you have vb 4.2

You could also use VSA advanced registration questions and keycaptcha

The suggestion you posted does not block any country either.

If spammers cannot sign up it prevents them posting. Both of the mods I suggested work pre registration. What's your point?

/personal experience. Spam-O-Matic was preventing legit users signing up to my forum. When I got wind of this, I tried to sign up myself and it would not allow me either. Just a heads up

There is only one way, actually two steps I had to preform :)
1. Kick my own butt for being lazy
2. use .htaccess to block certain countries

But if the question is simply to keep bots from registration use this and don't forget to buy a nice coffee to BirdOPrey5

as it works like charm if one can only be a little creative. #58 my way

I wish you good luck. Let us know in a couple of weeks how the things are going

The way i did it was to block foreign email addresses it did not get them all but got enough.
Say they where from France block yahoo.com.fr

It's best not to block users from foreign countries though. I would suggest you try keycaptcha and registration questions. Combined, they work really so well. This way, if succeeds, no one get's hindered access because of a select few nuisances..

They really don't though. I have Spam-O-Matic and tried captchas and Q&A. I still get spammer registrations. ALL of those WITH blocking whole network CIDRs is the best approach.
