vBulletin 5 Connect Finally Ready.....

Hi everyone, I saw many changes on vBulletin.com today. The first news it that the whole style has changed, and no more login with your Customer ID, and now you can login with your email adress! Now also members area have got a new look. I guess the look of the Member Area is from the new vBulletin 5 connect. Yet not sure! After I logged in I saw a whole new style! And honestly I liked it. Its much more simple!

The other news is that the new vBulletin 5 Connect is finally ready! But there are more changes! The Check out www.vBulletin.com for more! I also wanted to give my feedback and say that I did not find any DEMO PAGE or a page where we can try it! But I think if you take a visit and try and see for yourself, then I am sure you will get a picture of how it will look like! Tho there are a few images of the new vBulletin 5 Connetc. This will be one of the best versions ever built, and the most expensive as well! The Price is for New License: USD$249.00 and Upgrade: USD$209.00!

I cant wait to hear more about it befor I purchase the version! I think I am stucked with vB3.8! Hopefully I am hoping for there will be an upgrade to vB5 from vB3.8! I will wait a bit more befor purchasing to make sure I dont lost my forum and database! So, What you guys think? Please comment below with your opinions and suggestions, and make sure to visit the page and check out the new style, by loging in to your account! Good luck !

Unless there has been a major overhaul to the search functionality (for numerous reasons) & other back end functionality to improve performance, waste of money.

vijayninel 09-12-2012 03:22 PM

It is so so slow. I was looking forward to this and was very excited. But this is so slow that I cannot express my disappointment.

BirdOPrey5 09-12-2012 03:50 PM

The title of this thread is a little misleading... I wouldn't call it ready... ;)

Please remember it is only in Beta and you should not expect it will work perfectly. I would still recommend VB4 (which you still get with your VB5 license) for the time being for live sites.

oldz442 09-12-2012 04:20 PM

oooh it is 'ready' alright.

i hope it gets alot faster aswell..early days yet:D

Gemma 09-12-2012 04:36 PM

At present, not for me I'm afraid. Doesn't look or feel right and as other have mentioned it is slow, hopefully as development progresses things will improve but just now in its present incarnation doubt I will be purchasing a license.

But I'll keep an eye on its development :)

chefy 09-12-2012 04:49 PM

I'm going to be 100% honest: the product at it's current state (Beta 10) is almost unusable: bugs everywhere and painfully slow. So if you ask me about my first impression I'll say: SUCKS.

vijayninel 09-12-2012 05:23 PM

I think that in the current state this should be Alpha and not beta. I am not impressed by the looks either. Looks very dull. I hope that the slow speed and and other issues will be resolved soon.

I did not like the default theme too. It looked much better in the screenshots but when I saw it live at the vb demo link I was a little disappointed. It was like a stripped off retro theme.

John Lester 09-12-2012 06:01 PM

Well the demo for beta 10 hasn't impressed me any.

tbworld 09-12-2012 06:06 PM

I am very thankful they are releasing a general beta. This allows me to develop some kind of road-map for the future. At lest I can get a glimpse of the new engine and their new code structure. At least they are being upfront and saying it is not ready. I appreciate honesty. This is a better start then with vbulletin4. I personally think they are still rushing the release, but the developers were probably given a dead-line. Everyone has a boss.

So this is what the maintenance was for...

8thos 09-12-2012 06:41 PM

I'll ask here since Zachery doesn't know what I'm talking about: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...Facebook-Theme

I want to make a Facebook theme. Will this theme show up in Facebook or is the Facebook Connect aspect of vB5 only restricted to one skin?

I'll post some vB5 skins after someone lets me use their vb5 installation to make skins. Gonna post it on your site after I'm done.

socceronly 09-12-2012 07:13 PM

I think the thing to keep in mind is the pace of development/fixes in vb4 in the last few months.

Now with the new code base development should be even faster and better than we have seen recently with 4.

So litmus test is not what we see at this moment, but how much it changes and how fast.

That is the interesting part, more so that simply saying something that is clearly in development 'sucks'.

michal72 09-12-2012 07:40 PM

vb5 and iphone5 the same day - Is it coincidence? :)

8thos 09-12-2012 07:58 PM

So did I really get banned for asking a simple style question? WTF?

SuperTaz 09-12-2012 08:08 PM

I'll stay with vB4! Thanks anyway. :)

You can definitely have multiple styles on VB5, just like VB4/3.

But no it doesn't show up inside the Facebook App. Different styling.

No one was banned... (well you weren't at least) but there are a lot of temporary permission errors today- just reload the page they usually go away.

Scanu 09-12-2012 08:51 PM

I would call it an alpha (or even a "nightly") version, it's so buggy and slow, i was really excited (especially from the new adminccp) i registered an account (cool ajax features but slow ) and i could'nt even login :D Ideas are great js effects and ajax implementation but they have to do a lot of works, what they did all the time? I was shocked when i see this, so where is vb5? Lol

viper357 09-13-2012 05:39 AM

So, so, so disappointed, I was really looking forward to them upping their game in vb5, but I'm really not keen on the whole look of it, functionality wise may be good, I don't know, but first impressions on the style and how it all looks and works in general....very disappointing. Looks like I'll be on vb3 forever, lol.

VB3 for me to i guess!

doctorsexy 09-13-2012 07:47 AM

its a little faster this morning but yslow gives it a 69. my sites crammed with shout ect and gets a 64.
so whats it going to be like with loads of mods on it ?

Simon Lloyd 09-13-2012 09:47 AM

It was very flat and unispiring, they should have made the demo exciting and slick to excite people, funny thing is i emailed my concerns right back to the email address that sent the demo link to me, turns out it's for Adrian Harris who no longer works for IB!!!

They need to get their act together, they need to produce a professional looking demo with a professional approach to delivery and their customers, i love vb but this latest demo is a real turn off. :(

New Joe 09-13-2012 02:09 PM

It's not good im my option, I think they could have developed vb4 more.
I won't be touching vb5 for a few years yet, if that.

We went through 2 and a half years of hell with vb4 till 4.2.o came out, a nice stable version, only for IB to then stop with vb4 and bring out this rubbish called vb5 connect.

I'd say more people will forget about vB and go onto other things, xenforo is by far better than vb5 and I won't use xenforo as I like vb4 better, but given to choose between vb5 or xenforo I would jump right into xenforo tomorrow.

Really?

Great shame the product it advertises does not match up to the illusion.

Strong Security? Robust? Most 3rd party plugins?

It's not finished/reaady, it's full of serious bugs so how is it secure and what plugins ? Where are ther any plugins that work with vB5?

Typical advertising hype for something that does not yet function.

REally?

Are you comparing a 'design' to vB5?

My comment is as clear as it can get. Really.

daveaite 09-13-2012 08:29 PM

I will have to agree...I like...love vBulletin 4 a lot more.

ChiNa 09-13-2012 10:10 PM

Wow, great to see so many opinions an posts, Thank you guys for your advices and your opinions! So basicly what I have learned it that vBulletin 5 is not fully workable so far, a few have had problems with login and page loadings! And some people were also talking about the look was not a proper look for them..

Here is my opinion:
I am an old MYBB developer and to be honest, each and every version of MYBB that were released, was always better than the first one, and the one befor! I must admit that I am also a bit disapointed about vBulletin 5 and its progress so far! I really hoped for so much more.. And the reason I became a member of vBulletin is because its super fast, and then we get the vB5 which is not fully workable...

Thanks for all your answers...

I think there was a element of sarcasm in Princeton's post. ;)

However I.B have indeed done us a favour by releasing this beta. Now it is clear to me that my forum wont be able to convert to vb5 anytime soon and we will be on vB3 for some time to come.

I think It will take at least 18 months for things to stabilise and mods to be developed for vB5. So we might as well invest in some more addons and maybe a new skin. We had been holding these off in anticipation of vB5. :)

doctorsexy 09-14-2012 08:05 AM

this morning vb5 on yslow even better with a score of 77 so someones been listening:up:

vijayninel 09-14-2012 09:01 AM

^^ Its not just about slow .. If I click on a link then first it shows some other pages before taking me to the page I want to go to ... and there is a lot of resizing.

Also the layout is confusing .. its not intuitive. There are some good features but it is being overshadowed by lots of obvious bugs and slow speed.

yes if it stopped doing that it would be even faster

BigAl205 09-14-2012 01:02 PM

Am I the only one who thinks it looks too much like Invision's IP.Board?

Princeton 09-14-2012 01:09 PM

I agree with the direction they are taking vB5 - it is time for vBulletin to evolve.

The problem I have is that it looks like no planning went into the demo launch. It's a complete mess! On top of that, the project is incomplete.

They need to transition customers and users slowly off of what we are use to (what a forum is today). The demo could have easily been changed to look and act more like the 'forums' we know today. For example, upon your first visit you should feel familiar to the UI. (The demo has now been updated with additional forums but it still feels foreign because of all the white-space.)

The last thing IB wants to do is push people away. By nature, human beings do not like change.

On top of that, it's slow as H-E-L-L and full of BUGS.

If they wanted to impress us they went horribly wrong.

It's far from ready.

vijayninel 09-14-2012 02:06 PM

Thank you for your honest insight into this matter Princeton. It is unfortunate that we dont get this kind of insight from other senior vb.org staff since they have joined vb.com support staff. Dont get me wrong. I am very happy that they are helping out more in vb.com but in another way it has been a loss for us here on vb.org.

I wonder if you can give us a rough estimate on how long it will take before vB5 can be made stable and relatively bug free.
