This is my secind mod in here , hope you like it. I was doing it for myself but i thought maybe it's a use to all of you guys too.

Note: I dont have vbulletin 4 , but i changed the code according to vb4 manual , hope it works , if not just let me know and i will fix it , i need your feedback at this point .

What this hack do ?
when a private message is received or a visitor message or a friend request or a social group invitation a cute and kind post man comes to the screen and informs the user , with a link to the section he must visit.

Installation Guide :

1- upload "new-mail-notification.gif" to your forum/images/misc/ folder
2- Import the product

DONE

additionally you can turn this hack ON/OFF and disable copyright (not recommended) in vbulletin options page.

Note: you can edit the look of postman or do whatever you want to it , by editing template 'postman' in your templates.

Installed all Fine shows in Admin cp on 4.2 latest patch level but nothing on getting Pms.Hope that helps m8

using vb4.2.0 pl2 the image does not appear on the forum when a new pm is sent(unread) using vb4.2.0 the settings/options for the .xml shows in options and is clickable... so basically the image isn't showing on the forum until the code is fixed...

tnx Faisaly and ProfifaLeagues for bug reporting. had a small incompatibility with vb4 and FIXED.
tested on vb4.2.0 , worked fine.

yes nice it is working now but i cant see the title of the mod in options, Shows only a blank space but I can click the blank space and see the options... strange!

Also, the image is in the right hand corner, but it doesn't show fully, anyway to bring it more in vision , it need lifting up more to the left.

New Joe you can edit the image or use a different image and edit the position of the image however you want...

Received this when installed. Error went away after uninstall

No errors here, might be conflicting with another mod you have installed... try the mod alone by itself with the other mods off...

edit template 'postman' and change the css according to your taste (change right: Xpx;bottom:Ypx;)

weird as there is no array_merge in version 1.2 anymore

Nice job. Works now.

Just a couple thoughts:
Probably will have to change the image to a transparent gif as we all have different color for our forums and the white background doesn't work for everybody.

After importing (and overwriting the old one) the new XML I have now 2 postman settings under options in my adminCP.

this forum regenerated the postman image , i attached it as zip file , the image is having transparent background
and about that duplication just uninstall and then install it again . hope the duplication goes away for you.

Mr_Running I just wanted to hide postman's shoes off the screen but you are free to change it to whatever you like to match your needs and interests.

I know ppl can do this and I also know I can't, however maybe in the next update if there is one have a bubble come out of his mouth and says "You've Got Mail!"

only reason I suggest this is cause some ppl like noobies etc. won't know what the heck that is lol. my 2 cents

Find a .gif image that does that and go with it...

it's all possible as faisal said you can edit template postman and make any changes you want. but in original mod i wanted it to be small , if i put a bubble text then it takes lots of space and it might be annoying for some users. plus if the noob user drags mous over the image he will see the popup text.

Works just fine on 4.1.12. My member love it and even started a post on it to come up for a name for him. It is an excellent way for members to know they have a PM that is friendly.

the pat postman keeps asking you to check your unread messages ( or visitore messgaes , friend rquests . . . ) untill you check all of them . he's a responsible post man , you can't ignore him

In the middle of some major upgrades so not installing yet,....but,...

I ABSALUTELY COMMEND THE AUTHOR for a PROPER way to include their copyright notice.
Such a nice breath of fresh air to not see the footer loaded up with all kinds of mandentory links and credits if it is the users choice not to. Kudos to you!!

The members at our Forum love this, they weren't to keen on the postman, they thought he looked something like some kids show so we made our own and replaced the original.

I looked up irony in a dictionary. It showed me a picture of a mod designer requiring copyright notices on his products which use the BBC's images.
