RIP Boofo
I'm surprised a thread hasn't already been started - but if I've just missed it, feel free to merge or move this guys.
Anyway, I just wanted to say how much Boofo is going to be missed. I loved having long, random MSN chats with him about nothing and wondered where he'd disappeared to over the past few weeks. I found out via Facebook that Boofo has sadly departed this life, I have no more detail than that however :( So, wherever you are, Rob, I hope you're having a ball. |
|
Oh this is most terrible news. He was one of the most helpful and knowledgeable people here. He kept his cool even when slighted by people much younger than him.
This is a huge loss of the community as a whole. My condolences to his family. |
Very sad to hear this.... I will miss vBulletin.org's ol' Moderator...
Some details can be found here, hope it's ok. Rest in peace Boofo. |
I was sad to hear this too but as I wasn't facebook friends with him I can't see his page. I was looking for "proof" before making a post myself.
All I have seen is a screenshot from his facebook page (posted on Boofo's own forum) but no details. :( Rest in peace Rob. I went looking for an obituary and could only find listing of a name that matches his but it also has zero details or even a date. http://www.hamiltonsfuneralhome.com/...aspx?rid=12273 There is one online condolence from someone else written July 11th. |
I had him on my facebook, the first RIP message appeared on the 10th July but as yet there are no details - other than those posted on his forum about him having been to the doctors earlier for what he thought was routine, but turned out not to be. Other than that I know no more either :(

Very sad news indeed. I will miss our goofy PMs and IMs. :( He always put a smile on my face when he called me "Young Lady". :)
|
He was very happy a few months back that the number of his installs reached the year of his birth (1954). https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=282107
Who knew at the time that this would be his last year here. |
Boofo was a great coder, I enjoyed seeing what his crazy personality would come up with next. Even though me and Boofo only talked a couple of times, those times we talked he always had a goofy comment to give.
Remember Boofo by his signature: Quote:

I saw this on Facebook as well, and posted a question asking if it was true. No reply, but the evidence seems clear. :(
We had our differences over the years, but remained friendly overall. He used many bits of code I gave him over the years until he learned to do things more himself. He was also helpful when I first joined the vb.org staff (over 5 years ago now). R.I.P Boofo. |
Very very sad to lose one of the coding community, like when Andrew D went, boofo (Rob) was one of those coders who was always about and almost in every thread, my thoughts are with the people he left behind - +1 RIP Rob.
|
This is very, very sad news. I'd heard a rumour but didn't know if it was true or not.
Bob helped me loads when I first started using vBulletin - little things that others would find easy but I struggled with - he always had time to help 'cause that is the kind of guy he was. R.I.P - I'll miss your PM's :( |
Indeed, this is very sad news. RIP Robert.
What did he die from? At the link posted above said something about a checkup at the doctor which obviously found something wrong with this health but no more details were given. |
looks like some guys here had the information as well, so it's not bad if i talk about it a little bit now that the news is spread...
i've been in discussion with Robert in the last weeks/months about his cancer and other health problems, and i think he deserve a little flame of respect just for the the time he fought his illness, bravely with all his heart to stay alive... we've been friends since 2002, we registered here at the same day and we worked alongside a lot of times... *(i even debugged most of his releases before they were released, for the fun of it)... like many, we had our fights - usually when his health of family situation were in sake... but he was a great partner and a good friend. we fought the "fathers rights" together, even if our situations were very different. we also fought for vBulletin at the same level, for our pride most of the time, and for the sarcasms 200% of the time... :) last time i read from Robert is about 3 weeks ago, and he said to me a simple thing that hurts... " sorry pal, i'll never say stupid things again "... that was his only words in his last email... ... one day, we will start saying stupid things together again... RIP Robert Hindal --------------- Added [DATE]1342385939[/DATE] at [TIME]1342385939[/TIME] --------------- if you want to offer your condolences, here is the page: http://www.hamiltonsfuneralhome.com/...aspx?sid=12273 be polite, be respectful... |
Thanks for sharing that, Nexi. I think Bob's passing has left a hole in many people's hearts - he helped so many and wanted nothing in return.
|
Boofo was a great guy. Always sad to see a friend go. He will be missed.
RIP Boofo |
Sad news to hear and he was always a helpful guy R.I.P Boofo :(
|
I am saddened by this, I was talking to him few months back with him and he was helping me with a custom mod.
He was a good guy, and always use to talk to him on MSN. R.I.P Boofo. P.S: Look what he left for me with his addon when viewing as a guest. Your Sister's IP Address: xxxxxxxx | OS: Windows 7 | Browser: Firefox 13.0.1 Will leave his mod installed, because everytime I look at it, I think about him. Quote:

Only just seen this. Although only really started coding on vbulletin recently, have spoken to boofo a fair amount throughout the years. This is extremely sad to here. RIP
|
Wow, this is a shocker... we spoke few times on aol, it was always about Dvd Movies collections which i know he was a collector, and he helped me on my site.
R.I.P Boofo.....:( |
What a shock! He will surely be missed.
|
Does anyone know any family members of his?
I want to know to see if I could contribute for his memorial fund if there is one. |
I will definately miss him now that he's gone :( He's helped me hundreds of times when I needed help getting something working correctly with code and other misc projects. Had a ton of other misc chats too almost every day on IM. Sad to see you go Rob. :(
RIP Boofo |
This is definitely sad.
May he rest in peace, and my condolences to his family. |
RIP Bob. You were a top bloke.
|
Like so many have already said, what a great guy and one you could chat with for hours on sms
I only got to know him early this year, when he got in touch with me to help out with the Flag mod for who is online. He took it to a great new level, one of the best mods I have ever seen, we worked together with bugs and such, and he was always so quick with fixing things with the codes. I have been a member on his site since then, and along with others over there we have been waiting to find out if all was well. It wasn't. Most of us knew about his health, and probably knew within ourselves a few weeks back this was to be but we kept on wishing him well. RPI Rob, you will be missed around 'the org' so much.... |
Horrible news. My condolences to his family. It's odd how you recognize someone and feel the loss despite knowing nothing about them other than their screen name and dozens of posts you've read before somewhere. Far too young.

Rob was great, his personality was good and the jokes will be missed too. Things will never be the same here at vb.org without Rob. All I can say is, glad I had the chance to talk to him and learn from him. |
Dear God, what horrible news. I knew Rob just from the .org, but I always felt we were on the same wavelength.
Hope you're fine wherever you are now, and I hope there's guys there sharing your sense of humour and friendliness. Meet you there when the time comes! |
Extremely terrible news, I'll miss his presence very much. He was such a great man with a really great sense of humor.
My condolences to his family & friends. |
Well it sure is a sad time and I sure do miss our midnight chats on GTalk (or should I say midnight his side daytime my side) He did make mention a few times about his health issue but liked to keep it very much private so that was the way it was. He always made me smile during our chats always coming up with something out of the ordinary.
I too am running his country flag mod and now every time I see it I think of Rob and that is great as he was someone to be remembered. Go well my friend the pain is now over and you are at peace |

Thanks for such a great mod Rob, just wish you were still here to enjoy it... |
Rob and I have been friends for 8 great years. We met on this forum and have IM'ed and talked via phone on many, many occasions. Unfortunately since my move to North Carolina 5 years ago we have not conversed as we had in the past and recently planned to do so but life was just too hectic.
I now wish I had found the time... RIP my friend, you will be sorely missed but not forgotten. |
Sad news indeed - 58yrs is too young :(
RIP Boofo |
Very sad news indeed! He was always a kind and friendly soul...the world could use more like him.
RIP my friend! :( |
Rest in peace Rob, such sad news. He was a great man, someone to aspire to. He'll be greatly missed by everyone who knew him personally and those he touched with his modifications.

For the persons who are willing to contribute to his memorial, if he has one, please contact the Hamilton's Funeral Home, as indicated in my first post. http://www.hamiltonsfuneralhome.com/...aspx?sid=12273
they will be able to guide you to the right person to contact, family member or else... i do not have the entire informations, as Robert didn't want to publicise his situation and planned his death in the simpliest way possible... the only thing i can tell is that his sons were his last thoughts, he hoped they will continue to live happy with some good but few memories of their father. ... someone asked me why i didn't post a condolence note on the Memorial site.. personal matters does not concern you, please... i had my way to go thru all this process, and his family is well aware of my wishes for them. in the last months, Robert and me shared for hours of discussions, thoughts and griefs... he was a real activist in his way of fighting death... some may know a bit more about his health, as he was more concerned about his public image than his own comfort, because he decided that people didn't have to know he was sick... we already knew he had problems to see his sons, he was proud to fight the stupidities of the justice, even if it was one of the major reasons he was grumpy and sarcastic about a lot of people and things... anyway, here you can share some thoughts and souvenirs about Robert... ... oh yeah, and he was a real pita sometimes... he knew he was, even proud to be... rofl |
So how bad was he before he dies mate?
I knew he wasn't in a great way from the conversations we had, but I only knew him for a short time, it sounds like you and him were very close. |
I had Boofo doing some work on my website, enjoing the chats with him, his advices and great company on msm. At some stage I heard nothing from him and I did not know what to think,so,I email /pm some people around and I was told he is not well. I hoped he will be fine untill I get an email with the link of this thread.
I am deeply sorry he is gone from this world and happy he is part of my forum. My condolences to his family. |
Still can't believe it, me & him were a great team in the recent months.
Missing his messages on my msn. May your soul rest in peace ROB |
