Thumbnails not showing, just links

Hello

I activated the thumbnail function on my forum but it doesn't show the thumbnails, it shows the links.

The problem should be related to the fact that unregistered users cannot view threads.

If I let unregistered users view everything, the tumbnails show up normally.

And, when thumbnails show up as links, or somethimes as broken images (an icon that the image link is wrong), I can click on the thumbnail and the big version shows up normally.

Anyone knows the solution please?

Thanks in advance!

After you activated it, did you rebuild thumbnails in the maintenance > general update tools page?

manuel4 06-18-2012 08:28 AM

Hmm, really weird this. The last time I activated thumbnails with unregistered users cannot view forums too, I rebuild the thumbnails but didn't work.

Now, I just tried to activate the thumbnails again, and it suddenly started working.

Really weird, but it works now!

Thanks for the respond! :)

[EDIT]

It randomly stopped working again. I uploaded an images to a thread and the thumbnail that should be appearing, is not there. I can click on the space there, leading me to the actual image. But the Thumbnail is gone. Same for all the thumbnails on the other pages.

Can we get a link to see a 'working' post with thumbnails and a link to see a 'broken' post with thumbnails.

Here's a link to the thread with a lot of images/thumbnails: http://buffaloplace.be/showthread.ph...teveldestadion

You need an account, so I've created one for you:
Username: vbulletin
Pass: vbulletin2

I cannot see the images, thumbnails now. But the last one, the one that is in a quote, I can see;

Try this setting.

Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> Message Attachment Options -> View Attached Images Inline

Just as a test try the setting "yes, full size".

I've put this setting now. It doesn't show images either..But it's weird that post #38 the attachment shows..And if the thumbnail setting is on, you can click on the blank image and see the actual image..

And again, this only happens when the usergroup unregistered users cannot view threads, but need to log in or register..When I turn that off thumbnails seem to be working correctly

The problem is your cookie domain. If you allow users to login to your site via both http://www.yoursite.com and just yoursite.com., then you MUST have your cookie domain (AdminCP > Settings > Options > Cookies and HTTP Header Options > Cookie Domain) set to ".yoursite.com" (no quotes, but note the period at the beginning) or your users will have problems. Get that set correctly and the issue will be resolved.

(Your inline images are going to www.site.com/attachment.php. The ones that are not inline just go to attachment.php. If you login at site.com, since your cookie domain is incorrect, you cannot see the images at www.site.com.)

[EDIT]
Now that I've set the http settings the login seems te be bugging a bit. I can't logout, and logging in works from time to time and I can't seem to remain logged in...

I've put this in my case: ".buffaloplace.be" without quotes.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you clear your cookies after changing the domain name?

manuel4 06-19-2012 04:46 PM

Do you mean manually on my computer, or by logging out? :)

Lynne 06-19-2012 07:21 PM

I mean clear them in your browser.

manuel4 06-19-2012 09:02 PM

Tried it and it worked thanks! :)
And one question: why do some thumbnails appear in a quote under the message "attachments", and other thumbnails appear just within the thread?

Because some users attached the image inline and others just left them as regular attachments.

This exact issue came up just a couple of weeks ago here, so I immediately recognized what was happening when I was able to view the page source. :)

I have the same error. I tried all solutions above but I still cannot see attachments. Here's an example:

In my case, thumbnails for attachments have been working fine since I set up the forum back in April. But suddenly, thumbnails don't show unless they are of the png file type. JPG and JPEG used to show fine, but now when you upload a JPG all you get is a link. If you upload the same picture as a PNG it shows fine. And nothing has changed to the configuration of attachments, so I'm befuddled.

it could be an update vb made if you recently updated anything...

you need to check attachment configuration from admin cp and be sure you have the right configuation, otherwise, nothing will work.

also make sure about the path where your attachment is stored.

and last, make sure about usergroup permissions.

Good luck
