Looking for new host
 

2 weeks later and NinjaLion is still not responding to emails or phone calls. I found which server farm has their servers but was told the NinjaLion servers are managed by someone else and there was really noting they could do. ^%%#^%*&)()(*(^^$$%$#!!!
Ok so after getting to the files from the FTP end I made copies of the important stuff. That's every little thing to those that run forums.
I am resolved to having to start from scratch. More &%%^%$#^%*&^!!!
In the mean time I have WAMP set up on my laptop and have been playing around with 4.1.11.
Interesting stuff.

Ok I'll cut to the chase. I'm in the market for a new host that I can pay by the year. I don't need a lot of room as this is just a hobby endeavor. If after 4 years of dinking around with this it should happen to take off, I'd have a stroke and fall flat dead in my tracks. (Ok you can get off the floor and quit laughing)
I've been reading reviews that say be wary of unlimited this and that. Jeeze I'd rather listen to what you guys and gals have to say. So please would y'all point me in the direction of a great host that some of you use? Nothing fancy, shared will do.

I am with www.site5.com for the past 5 years, i won't say they are cheap. But they are reliable & their support is awesome. Never had problems with them so far. They get 5 stars from me. Also they have a 30 day free trial for you to try.

I use http://www.ufhosting.org/ never had an issue with them. Not a big hosting company but forum hosting is their specialty.

I use www.urljet.com but if your looking for a cheaper host try http://www.mddhosting.com/

I did my research and they basically offer the same great service. Good reviews for them both.

Try host1free. They're pretty good and offer paid hosting at a good price!

I work with HostGator. Have a reseller account and also a VPS for my admin forum (the job board requires a VPS). Overall pleased with them. The support is pretty OK and you can chat with them, so it doesn't take them a lifetime to respond.

Heard good things about Hostgator as well.

If it's really small and not a lot of usage. Dreamhost. Yeah they oversell, but we've been there with some high traffic (not resource intensive) sites for over a year and never had a problem.

And at 9.95 for an entire year... you can't beat it.

There are many bad reports about Hostgator.

They have a reputation as one of the worst organizations to remove scammers and fraudsters from their sites.

I personally had a very bad experience with them. I would recommend that you look elsewhere for hosts.

If you work with them maybe you could ask them why they are so reluctant to remove obvious scammers and spammers when they are reported to them ? In this regard their reputation is abysmal.

I understand they have a lot of complaints that have been sent to ICANN and more are in the pipeline.

I've been with hostgator for about 7 years now. Of course people who don't understand hosts like big al are going to try to give companies a bad rep lol.

The pricing is excellent, the customer support is great and I have never had a problem with them.

Also I'm pretty sure that I can beat the price when it comes to shared hosting :D

X10hosting offers free shared hosting and gives you 1gb of space. If you come close to using that amount, you can put in a ticket and they will review your site to make sure it is not breaking any TOS at which point they give you unmetered resources. That is to say if the hard drives fill up then obviously you can't store any more stuff until they get upgraded.

I find it presumptuous of you to say this when you have no idea of my experience with hosts.

I am basing my comments on my personal experiences with Hostgator over many years, NOT as an agent of theirs. How about you?

If you have had good service from them, then I am happy for you, but you are not qualified to comment on others experience unless you were directly involved with them.

If Hostgator had done and were doing the right thing, then I would praise them but so far in my experience they have not done so.

If any organization does the right thing then it is proper to praise them, but conversely, if they consistently do the wrong thing then they should be exposed for these actions.

So, where did things between you and them go wrong?

Oh and just an FYI, that really isn't good advice. I can see it easily landing someone in hot water for all kinds of various legal reasons. Just be careful how far you decide to take it.

I have been with Hostgaor for years and I am always surprised at the length they will go to to try and resolve any issue I have. Also like the 24/7 service they give, I only have had great experiences with them

And yesterday they had the nerve to email me a request for a survey.
I won't post what I sent to them. But rest assured it was straight to the point and not polite...

That's not a threat, that's common sense. And I'm not looking for other people's complaints.

I asked YOU, not anyone else, where things went wrong between you and them.

I moved a long time ago from Hostgator and have never regretted that move.
