I sent them a message through the "Contact Us" link directing them to this thread.

AdrianH 04-28-2012 04:40 PM

Not seen any issues and I visit there several times a day.

New Joe 04-28-2012 04:58 PM

I am not a member, I just use a standard ip, not hiding behind any proxi.
Looks like they need to sort themselves out

I have accessed from 4 IP's without a problem, this morning I used 5 different proxy servers again no problem.

Flush your DNS Cache and cookies then try again.

Mariner1 04-29-2012 08:15 AM

Flushed cache etc, still get same error. This is crazy

AdrianH 04-29-2012 08:53 AM

Have you tried via a proxy? The site is definitely working, I even tried vbadvanced.net which immediately redirects to .com.

Hmm, this is odd >> http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.c...vbadvanced.com << this says the site is down BUT if you click the URL on that page it opens the site perfectly for me.

I'll drop another message to Brian and Kevin for you.

(at this moment there are over 150 people online at vbadvanced.)

BirdOPrey5 04-29-2012 10:09 AM

From the early reports it looks like vbadvanced setup some sort of aggressive anti-spam/hack software like ZB Block. In this case I would expect most people to be able to access it but there will be a few who can't because the software believes they are unsafe users- perhaps due to geographic location, IP address being used for malicious purposes in the past, or even an active virus on the system.

vBAdvanced has been notified according to kh99 so that is it. They can decide if they want to block some legit potential customers in the name of safety or not- the fact 100 people can get to the forum without issue won't help the handful that can't.

Using a proxy will be the only hope for affected users if vBAdvanced doesn't disable or white-list these people, but proxies are often blocked by these programs anyway so you will need to find one that works.

I'm not sure what their email address is over there but if you're locked out try emailing "support@" or "brian@" vbadvanced (dot) com and let them know your IP address, MAYBE they can white-list you somehow.

If you know how to run tracert, run: tracert www.vbadvanced.com

And paste the results in the email, if they aren't using something like ZB Block that will be helpful information.

vbenhancer 04-29-2012 01:00 PM

the fun is that if they use such a system and some few guys report their problem here on this site, it means that a lot more people will be blocked randomly... i don't think they need to lock down half of their potential customers just to be sure some spammers do not trash their site... or they are too lazy to install better server-side security fixes...

doctorsexy 04-29-2012 02:38 PM

Well whatever they have installed it hasnt worked... because theres more spam than a corner shop on there...

New Joe 04-29-2012 02:45 PM

Still not working here.
No fake ISP, I'm not a bot, lol

I am not going to use a proxi to get to the site, so they can do what they like, but all this means that I can't log on there for vB Arcade, which I was going to install.

Great post.

Tigga 04-29-2012 08:49 PM

Thank you to those who let us know about the issue, and my apologies to those who were blocked. As BirdOPrey guessed, I did install ZB Block last week in an attempt to fight spammers. Since it's obviously blocking at least a few people that are not spammers, I've disabled the system so nobody should have any issues accessing the site now.

What would you suggest to stop spammers? We've tried many things over the last few years and none have worked very well. We still use vBstopforumspam along with a few custom tricks such as hidden inputs and blocking registration from the same IPs and e-mail from previously banned members. That takes care of a good bit of spam, but still quite a bit slips through.

vbenhancer 04-29-2012 10:40 PM

...best way to stop spammers is to close the site... rofl

ok, no, i mean with all the tricks used by all the people here, and no situation working properly, over the time, it's simply better to find a way to deroute spammers instead of blocking them...

I've an idea for something very-very simple, but had no time yet to do it. It's just an addition check. 95% of the spam message are long one. eg more than 500 characters. So I'm planing to place in auto-moderation xxx new posts which they are more than xxx characters long.

Chris

Mariner1 04-30-2012 09:45 AM

Sounds like that would be very useful Chris

Btw back in vbadvanced now, thanks.Just waiting for my ticket reply now ;)

New Joe 04-30-2012 09:59 AM

Sounds good Chris, I will keep my eye out for it coming out.

Christos Teriakis 04-30-2012 10:20 AM

When I try to reach vbadvanced.com, I always get a the following message:

It has been like this for some time. Is it just me, or is this a general thing. Is vbAdvanced still in business?

Yes and No... basically its come and gone a few times now, for reference:
https://vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=314400
https://vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=321409

The latter page link has more info, it was down for a while then came back online and has been for some time now and this is only recent that I've heard of it being offline from your reply.

Peter Walker 08-29-2017 05:35 PM

Thanks and here is an archive of the message about vbadvanced EOF.

For what its worth, I have found a great substitute for the Links directory. I am currently setting this up to work in parallel with my vb5 Connect forum.

https://www.c97.net/kemana-the-ultim...ory-script.php

You can see the directory I have made from it here.

I dont think so, they announced the EOL for their products a few years ago now.

Brandon Sheley 08-31-2017 02:26 AM

Looks like it might be the final days for vba :(
I wonder if they ever made a profile on github, seems like a nice place for legacy scripts.

Peter Walker 11-13-2017 12:51 PM

I just checked again, and http://www.vbadvanced.com is currently back online.
