My laptop broke...
The metal in the hinge physically broke- never seen anything like it- must have been a flaw in the metal. In the course of trying to open and close the lid more pieces ripped out.
I'm pretty upset because I hate all the current laptops out there- this was a Sony AR670 which had an amazing screen at a resolution of 1920x1200 which can't even be found anymore. If anyone knows where I could get my hand on a used but working Sony AR670 please PM me or something- I would love to throw my current drives into something and be back to where I was. I am trying to hold out before spending big money until some new laptops with good high res screens come out. My best hope seems to be rumors of the next Mac Book Pros having Retina displays. |
These?
http://www.laptopteks.com/Sony/Lapto...670/Hinges.asp Could you just replace those you think? |
Thanks... I'll need to take a look and see if I have any chance of being able to take the thing apart to that point. At least there is some hope. :)
|
Whow, but 76 bucks is quite a steep price for just a hinge
|
Next year there could be a number of laptop/tablet hybrids like the Asus transformer in the market. You might want to wait for one of those.
|
Have you had a look on ebay....:D
|
the problem is I don't think I would physically be able to take the laptop apart enough- or more specifically get it back together afterwards- to change the hinge. This would be a difficult task when I had all 10 fingers working. I've only got use of 7 these days and I'm afraid its made putting things back together far harder then it used to be.
Trying to secure a new laptop now. |
why only 7 fingers working if you dont mind me asking
|
Is there that much of a difference between the 1920x1200 and the 1920x1080 resolution???
I know working with limited motor skills on smaller parts has to a pain, dont you have anyone around you could instruct, hinges are fairly easy things to replace. I've replaced a few hinges before myself and i've got fat chubby fingers! |
Duct tape.

And bailing wire.

1) I lost them fighting a bear off to save a group of school children. or 2) As a result of a prolonged infection coupled with nerve damage all my fingers on both hands became tightly contracted. After years of physical therapy 7 fingers are working again but 3 remain fully contracted on my left hand and I can't move them. :erm: |
sorry to hear that lost the use of my legs a few months ago still have not got use to it

I was able to "cross" my legs for the first time just last week on my own since "the big sleep" as I call it happened... It was when I was in a coma fro May to September 2009. I was in ICU for almost 8 months, the hospital and rehab for another 4, then came home to a hospital bed in my living room. Basically why I have time to make these mods. Once I can manage to walk again support on my mods is going to drop... FAST. :D |
^^ Really sorry to hear that BirdOPrey5. I hope you make a good recovery soon. :)

(pulled down or locked in one place) He was telling me that the docs were going to inject the muscle on the locked side with I think it was botox or some such nasty stuff, that killed the muscle for a few months and allowed the hand to be returned to normal position and allow the opposing muscles to recover. Maybe worth talking to your doctor to see if this (radical ) method would work for you? I am not a medical practitioner and only suggest that you discuss with your doctor. AL. |
Thank Yoi Big Al. I too had heard about an injection and have asked a specialist who told me I wasn't candidate for that particular treatment. I will need surgery to fix it. It is something I will consider if I ever get to the point of walking again or at least able to get around on my own.
At this point I don't see a need to endure another surgery in my current condition. On happier news... I got a new HP Envy 15-3040NR and am quite happy with it. I didn't think I'd like a 15" laptop over the 17" I had but I can barely tell a difference really- and the 1920x1080 resolution is decent. I still hope notebook manufactures start embracing high resolutions again- it is ridiculous that an iPad has far better resolution then ANY laptop available today. |
