[DBTech] vBNominate v1 (vB4) [AJAX]
 

vBNominate is an advanced nomination system. Several different types of nominations are available and it is fully automated to keep your users engaged and interested in your communities activity while keeping maintenance down.

Uses
As admin you will be able to create several different types of nominations. The nominations can either end with the top nominated items winning or a separate poll will automatically be created with the top items.

Once the poll is completed the nomination is updated automatically with the results. No manual intervention is needed on your part! You can specify the type of nomination to be run or you can let it run on several different types of items like threads, polls, blogs, etc.

The nominations system will make it easy for users to have competitions for the best post, thread and more while browsing the forum. No need to go to a special page to vote, all voting can be done for any post from any thread via AJAX.

Instructions
Here are some basics on how to get the nominations started.
1) Make sure you modify the usergroups that will be allowed to nominate.
ACP->Usergroups->UserGroup Manager
2) Create a rotating nomination
ACP->DBTech - vBNominate-> Create Rotating
An example, if you want a weekly Thread nomination, set Type to Thread, Cycle to Weekly, End Date way far in the future, like Dec 31 2058. After you submit new Nomination go to step 3.
3) Edit new Inactive Nomination
ACP->DBTech - vBNominate-> Current Nominations
You should now have an inactive nomination. Edit it if you need to make any changes then set it to active.

You should now have a Nomination link in your postbit. At the end of the week it will automatically end and start a new one on the day you specified.

Hi, I try lite version, and I do not understand or I have to put in the postbit this variable, {vb:raw vbnominate.combined}, so that it appears as on your site, thank you

The nominate button you have looks the same as on our site? The variable there is if you want to manually put it somewhere else besides the default template hooks.

Database error in vBulletin 4.1.10:

Invalid SQL:

MySQL Error : Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes

What are you doing when that error happens?

I tried to install this addon
when install complete i get database error in admin panel
Adminpanel database error after install.
Does anyone know what went wrong ?

Did you follow the instructions up top that I added? If you did and are still not seeing the nominate option I'd need a temporary admin account to see what's wrong.

Did you get any errors during the installation? I haven't seen this reported before.
If you want you can give me a temp admin account and I'll install it and see what's going on. Hard to troubleshoot with just an empty sql error.

I'm not sure without seeing what the error is. If it was a database error it should of emailed the technical contact what the exact error was. Did you get that email? If you did post it so I can see what the cause is.

I was thinking about doing that but I thought about how large that could get heh. Imagine you have 8 or so nominations running that involve thread/posts/users/avatars/signatures. As well as the block to display that I'd worry about the database hit. That said, I'll add it to our feature request list and look at adding it in the next version with the ability to disable it. I guess if you only run a couple nominations and have extra sql power to spare it would be a nice feature :)

thanks that would be great. and what about after you nominate a thread instead of taking the button away make it stay but when you click it have it say you already nominated a thread or something like that...people keep thinking its messed up asking where the button went haha

Yeah, I was already thinking about adding that. Been asking a lot why it's not working when in reality there were just no active nominations for that user :)

Only problem is users wont know if there is a new nomination available or not. Since the rotating title is the same they wont know if it's a new one or the one they already voted on. Maybe a color difference on the link and popup text.

Does this version or the pro version allow for the nomination of users for something like Member of the Month?

Yes, either version will do a monthly user nomination that will either end by getting auto scored or by creating a poll with the top users to be voted on.

I just posted v1.2.2 which contains

• Fixed postbit not showing image for winner of nomination
• Added stylevars to deal with nomination popup length, orientation and dark styles
• Fixed problem with notification after nomination

We run a Fortnightly art competition. It would be great if this could be expanded, so that the nominate button will only be shown in active "weekly threads" and not only forum categories.
Once that weeks nominations are complete, the button would be removed.

How hard would it be to add "two weeks" to the drop down box for length of nomination.
And also to a dd a thread number rather than a forum category?

Great mod in theory, but not perfect for our needs.

I installed this and have two of your other products that work fine. Everything looks fine until you try to change the settings in the admincp. Then you get a error message "File not found: Go back"

Any suggestions?

Looks like you didn't upload all the files. Redownload the package and be sure every file gets uploaded.

Problem still persists? Open the settings page in a new tab (this will provide the full URL) and on the file not found page copy and paste that link in your reply.

Should there be anything happen to let you know you have voted. Mine does nothing apart from (javascriptvoid()) in bottom bar and button is removed, but only on a page refresh?

Sorry about the problem. Yes, I found that out troubleshooting a users site last night. I'll work on getting it fixed today. I'll post a new package when it's fixed.

I just released 1.2.3 which should fix the problem. Once you vote on a thread nomination it should pop up a message thanking the user for the nomination. Let me know if it doesn't.

I have installed and uninstalled this mod 3times now and still it don't show the settings menu in the acp(it does shows in vB option) and it also does not show the nominate menu button in the thread.
I also don't see the permission settings in the usergroup manager.
I uploaded all files to the right folders etc...
What have i done wrong please advice thank you.
