Dark theme vs Light theme

What do you reckon is better/prefer?

I am not too sure if I want to get a dark theme for my forum or keep my current light one. I've looked at them both and I just can't decide

LIGHT OR DARK?

nobody here will be able to answer YOUR needs...

if you are unsure, continue testing other sites designs to see which are more pleasant for your eyes... everybody has different interests in design, or we would have only one.

Personally, I prefer dark usually. I find that light text on dark backgrounds is easier on the eye than dark text on light backgrounds.

dark text / light background

pick up the newspaper
read a book
sign the form

it's all over - people are already accustom to it

I also prefer Dark themes, i have a games site where the dark colors look awesome look here: http://xgamesbb.com/forum.php it just wouldn't look good with light colors.

It all depends on what type of forum you are going to run?

If you need any advice with your forum PM me.

I personally like light themes.

I keep a nice selection of themes for the users to choose their preference.

There's a reason all military and air traffic themes are dark though, it's alot easier on the eyes if looking at screens for long periods. After your eyes are used to the assault by light, bright themes, when they go to a dark theme you can feel them go "ahhhh..."

I use a dark theme as my primary theme. Reason is the darker background makes the images snap off the page. When the same image is viewed on a white or light background it's hard on the eyes. The lighter area around the image makes the pupil in your eye close and you lose the ability to see small details. The darker area around the image allows your pupil to open some and see smaller details.
But like Max I do have a good collection of themes to suit different tastes.
My gallery however is a different story. It's black and gray to make the pics look better.

I like to have a choice and to give a choice to my users, so I would make styles switchable.
Personally I like dark themes.
