Stop Sopa

1 Attachment(s)
//edit: Since the Protest Day is long over, this Mod won't do anything atm (it will remain inactive). I will update it, if there is a similar thing for ACTA and Co.
For more Information what the Mod did, pls read the provided Links.

This small Addon will simply only add the javascript to support http://sopastrike.com/.

Installation:

- Upload the contents of the "upload" Folder to your Forum Root.
- Install the "product-ultraend_sopa_vBulletin4.xml" in your AdminCP
( Plugins & Products --> Manage Products --> [Add/Import Product] -->
EITHER upload the XML file from your computer --> Import )
- Activate the Plugin
( STOP SOPA --> Main Configuration --> Turn "Stop SOPA" on? -->
Yes )
- It will activate only on Wednesday, January 18th. --> http://sopastrike.com/#how-to-strike

Update 1.1:

- added a few Options:
Show to all (but Admins)
Show only for Guests?
Show only for Members?
Show only for Moderators?

if you don't need these, just stick with the first one.

HMBeaty 01-18-2012 04:28 AM

I didn't use this modification, but you can have a look at what it looks like here: www.usmilitarylife.com

Raeven 01-18-2012 04:43 AM

Thanks, also you can test, if it's working, by setting a time into the future on your PC (I just used +15 hours from this post time)

RobbieZ 01-19-2012 07:19 AM

Thanks, released a little late IMO but clicked installed for the next blackout :p

EliavZ 01-19-2012 07:51 AM

i don't understand what this mod do...
can you explain?

TheSupportForum 01-19-2012 09:01 AM

this is not a mod and really a template edit, its in the wrong category

Raeven 01-19-2012 10:15 AM

For clearing what the Mod dose:
- It added the javascript to black out your site (in the yesterdays strike), for everyone, who doesn't know how to add it them self (and wanted to take part) --> More information here: http://sopastrike.com/

@ simonhind: It has an Plugin, no own edits needed, but I simply guess your Pro SOPA ;). (also it's under Mini Mods, since it doesn't do much, yet again, it still is a Plugin, that adds / added the ability to take part in the Strike easy (without own Template edits).

no what i also meant is what is this mod/plugin

what is a SOPA you have no description to why we should have it and who it benefits i am a UK resident what good it it to me ?

a strike about what exactly a full description of this plugin would be appreciated
then at least when the next strike of what ever its about comes about you can post it otherwise this edit means nothing

You're really behind in the times Simon, a gigantic law is set to pass in the coming weeks which will affect the whole of the internet for the worse, Wikipedia shut itself down for a day, and megaupload and megavideo are now down.

Do a google on SOPA and educate yourself, doesn't matter if you're a UK citizen or not.

tafreeh 01-20-2012 10:45 PM

i think we don't need this anymore.. :) as SOPA is now DEAD

SOPA is not dead. They only postponed the vote.

Right now it doesn't have enough votes to pass, but it could again gain supporters.

Congress has a history if keeping a bill on the back burner and waiting for the people to forget about things. Then one day, someone will look up in the room and say, let's call a vote on issue "X" (in this case, SOPA).

All the talking and debating would have been done behind closed doors and Congress just needs to walk out into the public floor, call a vote, and its passed.

Senate votes for PIPA on Monday (24th)

I can't figure out what this mod is supposed to do. But I would have liked this a week ago if it just puts up a page for visitors then goes away.

HMBeaty 01-22-2012 03:25 AM

If you do like I did and paste this code at the bottom of your headinclude template:
PHP Code:

<script type="text/javascript">window.location="http://sopastrike.com/strike";</script

It will just display this page upon navigating to your site. However, the SOPA strike is over (for now)

Videx 01-22-2012 04:10 AM

Displaying a page is easy. But what I would have liked a mod to do would be to display it once to unique visitors. i.e., I would like them to be able to click through it.

Take your politics elsewhere.

LawlZ 3 posts.

Apparently you are ignorant to the real agenda of the bills or just don't care. This thread is a mod for the SOPA bill (postponed not killed for those wondering ;) ) (P.S. it relates to politics) so take your pissing elsewhere :)

Even for non US Forums, it can affect any Forum, that has Users on it, that are from the USA. Also you should think, that people who buy a Forum legal, and have one, also inform them self about such things (and even more if they Code, since it can directly affect business, unless you don't do any business with people from USA).

agreed with that
but i dont seem how it affects a forum, yes you can sell from your forum if you have integrated shop mods like i do
also the mention of legal forums, well you cant download this mod unless you have a license anyways

i would of places this in an index.htm file on the root of my domain
not the forum itself as people could have this as youdomain.com/forum
then this mod would not help the domain root unless your forum is installed on the root of the domain

This is why i said this mod doesnt reallt benefit people who have their forum in a subdomain / folder as it only protects the forum content

Any chance of similar for ACTA?

ACTA, I understand, has recently been voted in Poland without notifying it's people. Surprise, surprise.

Videx 01-29-2012 01:36 AM

ACTA seems even worse in some ways and they seem to have waited until we were all concentrating on SOPA before half of Europe signed on to the damn thing.

Still, I'm not even sure what I could have done as an American. I wrote all my representatives on SOPA, but on ACTA I'm clueless.

Raeven 01-29-2012 11:30 AM

For ACTA similar things could be done (same protests). But as far as I am informed, I haven't heard of any Date for that yet.
Also even since half Europe has signed it, ACTA still has to pass as bill for EU right (since else ACTA is colliding with other laws).

And could you explain your idea for an Mod (assuming you mean one general for ACTA PIPA and co in general) a bit more, maybe i can put something simple together.
