Anonymous to attack GoDaddy

Anonymous plans on attacking GoDaddy for their support of SOPA and for making it very hard to leave. GoDaddy's response to the pending boycott has been to require many people to scan or fax a copy of their Photo ID in order to leave.

I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Leave?

Leave - Verb - Meaning to go away from.

lol :p

Yes, GoDaddy is trying to make it hard for customers to jump ship.

I'll be damned if I'm going to pass on a copy of my ID to GoDaddy to terminate their services. I have a domain registered through them. It's simple enough to move that to another registrar or let it expire and start over with another name.

The below is quoted word for word from the wiki article. Used without permission. (So sue me...)

Quote:

On December 22, Go Daddy, the world's largest domain name registrar, stated that it supports SOPA.[73] This prompted users from Reddit to organize a boycott.[74] [75] In addition, Jimmy Wales announced he would transfer all Wikimedia domains from Go Daddy.[76] The same day, Go Daddy rescinded their support, with its CEO saying, "Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance, which is why Go Daddy has been working to help craft revisions to this legislation - but we can clearly do better... Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it."[77]
My swing on this is if enough of GD's client base moved their domains to other registrars, their bottom line would suffer dramatically. Hit where it hurts, their profits.

This could become highly amusing. If GD gets hit so hard that its made an example for all other companies to fear, then that may be effective.

OldSchoolDSL 02-13-2012 04:28 PM

Godaddy's home page was temporary defaced (site was hacked).

Godaddy has been DDOS a few times now since this original post was made.

I would suggest another provider.

Thought GD it is one of the best hosting companies. Sure are very good hackers out there but still GD should have a very good defense.
Have my site hosted with them!!!! :(

Anonymous has successfully DDOS

The White House
The Department of Justice
The Department of Defense
Home Land Security
The Library of Congress
The Pentagon
The FBI
The CIA

Has successfully hacked

The FBI
The CIA
Over 100 town police sites

And those are only The American side of things out of the 10,000+ other targets around the world.

Do you really think Godaddy would pose a problem for Anonymous?

The on going attack is in direct result to Godaddy's support for Protect IP, SOPA, and their support for ACTA. The attacks originally started though, when their CEO celebrated killing an elephant for sport & posted photos and video of this as bragging rights.

At this time Anonymous hasn't attacked the customer side of things as it is greatly believed that the unknowing and innocent customers shouldn't be forced to suffer for the poor actions of Godaddy.

So the attacks have been directly on Godaddy.com and the back-end to prevent new customers from signing up. Sometimes even being re-directed to other domain registers.

I agree 120% with this target.

Well, about 2 hours ago my site it is not up anymore.

Anyone trusting godaddy has NO idea about the domain and hosting industry. They are the last company you should be getting services from.

Amen to that. Good observation.
