I have been asking various board owners this question and thought it couldn't hurt to ask here.

Plugins aside, what problems do you face as a board owner?

Spam
Users fighting/insulting each other
Illegal Content

Those are usually the top 3 issues we hae to deal with.

We are running approx. 85 vB 3.8.7, 12 VB 4.1.3 and a few various other versions.

Basic server stuff - dealing with them when one decides to take a coffee break without notice, or when the backups decide to stop, or when a partition gets unexpectantly full, or.....

Biggest problem is members getting married, having kids, getting new jobs, and not having time for the forum anymore... Anything you can do about that? :D

"problems" I target on a monthly basis...
- increasing visitor registrations
- increasing traffic
- increasing time on site
- increasing quality content
- increasing usability
- increasing ROI

Haha! I didn't understand why you were asking either - I mean you asked for the version, so I gave you the version. But now, seeing your comment, I see you thought I was listing it as one of my problems. :D

Yup!!! I have to go along with that.

I don't face any major problems, just people spamming their links.

I run a teens site, so my number one problem is DRAMA. Spam a can take, but drama is a lot harder to deal with.

Mine has always been about activity. My site was too niche, once it was handed over to me by the previous owners, and interest was already dwindling among the regular users. That combined with my inexperience and inability to fix some of the features of the site that people had come to appreciate as unique about it, interest just fizzled out. I've tried a few things over the years, but mostly my site has been my place to tinker, and learn what I don't know. Now I'm just going to shut down and see if I can address the issue of activity by refocusing the site to something less niche. But, yeah, activity has always been my problem.

Drama I can deal with. I don't allow it. Maybe that had something to do with it, too...
