vBSSO is a vBulletin plugin that helps you connect to different software platforms like content management systems, blogs, and online stores using a secure Single Sign-On
The system has two components. First, there?s a vBulletin plugin that creates an interface for authenticating, controlling access, and managing user profile data. The second component is plugins for other platforms (like WordPress) that teach it to talk to vBulletin and exchange data. Here?s a list of support platforms. Ive installed the plugin on vb 4.1.5 and the newest wordpress. Is the Platform shared key--> vbulletin api key? Realm User: wordpress login name? Help me please. |

Hi Alfa, this project was developed for our community (http://www.diabetesdaily.com) with a vision of having a flexible SSO system. We've open sourced and shared it so that others can use it and extend it freely. This community has given an enormous amount to us and we wanted to return that it in a substantial way. If we can save even one person a few hundreds hours of development and testing time, I will fall be very happy.
Some of your requests, like 1, 3 and 5, go beyond the goals of a single signon system. In our eyes, a good SSO can connect multiple systems and provide the plumbing. Items like providing access to usergroup permissions and avatars fall cleanly within that scope. Making two programs function as one by integrating designs and surfacing content jointly goes beyond what we think an SSO should do. That said, there is a wonderful opportunity to extend this vBSSO into a full blown API for vB. I don't know if that's the direction that we want to go (it's something that vBulletin really should have done a while ago), but it's a worthy goal. If you were interested in hiring us to create additional addons, we are able to do so and could open source the end product so others can utilize it. Even better, we'd love to see some dedicated members of the community jump in and help extend this project. We are happy to give feedback and support to anyone that wants to make it happen. |

Bomye & puertoblack2003, the single signon works across domains and servers. This was a key requirement for us because we wanted to be able to create new applications that could run on their own server with their own domains.

whitey, not at this time. It would be possible to extend it to do so, but it would not be able to have one set of profiles and private messages. I imagine that the ideal would be to get multiple vBs to run on one codebase. This was always one of my biggest requests from vB - and I still hope it happens one day.

To create a plugin for two vBulletin forums would take about 15 hours of work ($750).
(Required) vBulletin vBSSO minimal package implementation 1. Setup package - 1h 1. Handle login event - 1h 2. Handle logout event - 1h 3. Handle register event - 2h 4. Sync user credentials if user changes his email in vBulletin - 1h 5. vBSSO Configuration page - 1h 6. Adapt primary vBSSO Access Settings page to filter that vBulletin could be like a connected platform - 3h 7. Testing, packaging, and deploying - 5h (Optional) vBulletin vBSSO optional implementation 1. Override login, logout, register creating new custom vBSSO block in vBulletin as custom solution, because vBulletin user a form to submit user login data by default., vB has no API to overwrite login block itself, but allows to create new login page. 1-2hr Account Collisions If you have two different sites, this would not solve the issue with the issue of two users having the same username or email addresses on multiple sites. If there is serious interest in this, we could work out a system that handles those duplicates. For example, we could offer the ability to change the username to something that doesn't exist or to allow the same username if the email address matches. |

Say...if someone registered on the toyota forum and there was (the same person) or username on the honda forum there could be a choice in the admincp to choose the prefix for the alike user names. So one would be toy-bob and hon-bob -- something along those lines. Or a choice to merge the users. It would also be interesting to see other forum platforms added to this somehow. Invision - Xenforo. I will be keeping a very very close eye on this though. It is incredibly handy for network sites. |
