Dramatar Avatars! The More Dramatic, Dynamic Avatar

1 Attachment(s)
This plugin allows you to quickly and easily use Dramatars as your default avatar for members within your postbit, profiles and members list. This works on vB4 and should work on vB3.7+ as well.

Dramatars are a whole new style of dynamic avatars, much like Monster ID and etc but with a new flare. There are several types of Dramatars available to choose from, all of which are dynamically generated based on your end users email.

This plugin also places nicely with Gravatar and makes use of it by default. If ever your end users have a Gravatar set up, it will be displayed instead of Dramatars. Or if you choose, you may opt to only display Dramatars!

Dramatar Types:
The Blockies

Anime

Installation:
  1. Simply import the product XML in and select overwrite if needed to upgrade.
  2. Configure through vBulletin Options -> User Picture Options

Updates:
  • 0.3.0 - Fixed sizing issue while using Gravatar & added The Blockies
  • 0.2.7 - Fixed non-display of images while using Gravatar
  • 0.2.6 - Fixed a minor flub in the formatting
  • 0.2.5 - Initial public release

If you like Dramatars, consider going to the site and liking it on Facebook, +1ing it on Google and/or tweeting about it on Twitter. Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated, too!

Reserved. :)

No feedback so far? See it got a low rating from someone. Kind of curious as to why. If you'd like to expand on your rating in a comment, that'd be great! :)

I love hearing feedback, either good or bad. So long as it's productive, it's all good.

Kraxell 09-09-2011 11:28 AM

Do you can make a screenshot of options?

DarkWolf74 09-09-2011 12:01 PM

Kraxell, added a screen shot for you of the options page as well as some others. Everything from Dramatar Type down are plugin settings.

Juggernaut 09-10-2011 12:06 AM

Haven't installed yet, although it looks very promising.

DarkWolf74 09-10-2011 12:12 AM

If you have any feedback or ideas, please feel free. Still much more to do on the site and service itself though, too. Have more Dramatar styles planned, plus the whole parts submission system so artists can submit their own pieces such as hair, hats and whatnot.

Anyway, enough rambling. :)

Conehead555 09-10-2011 09:02 PM

It didn't add any options to my avatar edit page, I just see my pre defined avatars and there's a link to your site that makes the page twice as wide, is that the mod?

Here's a link to the screenshot, you may have to scroll over to see the whole thing:

DarkWolf74 09-11-2011 01:25 AM

Conehead555, thanks for pointing that out. I've fixed that format flub. There's nothing that the end user needs to do however to select an avatar. They're built by the site dynamically for each user, much like MonsterIDs.

To configure the plugin, go to Settings -> Options -> User Picture Options

There you can set the type displayed, what size it is and if you want to make use of Gravatars.

The plugin does not add avatars to the selection list. It changes the default avatar and displays automatically for any user who does not have an avatar chosen.

Let me know how it looks with the new version installed [allow overwrite on import] and if you have any further questions. :)

Installed, and working great.

DarkWolf74 09-21-2011 01:15 AM

We've done really well so far, celebrating 500,000 avatar requests today and due to a huge bump in traffic are set to pass 1,000,000 avatars served in just over 5 days! Some very busy blogs and forums have picked us up and things are still humming along like clockwork.

We'll be rolling out some new outfits and such for both the Rag Dolls as well as the Anime Dramatars some time this weekend.

Looking forward to that 1 million mark!

DarkWolf74 08-03-2012 12:13 AM

Well, we're looking at nearly 43 MILLION avatar requests right now, with an average of 150,000 requests a day. Not too shabby!

I'm happy that there are indeed sites out there who enjoy using Dramatars. Now if only I had more time to devote to this "personal" project, so I could whip up a few more avatar sets. :)

Glad that you enjoy it!

A new minor update has been released that fixes a broken image issue. I will be working on new Dramatars this month and hope to have them released soon.

If you have problems or suggestions, please feel free to post in the thread! Thanks! :)

Morrus 09-07-2013 12:32 AM

I kepe re-reading the OP, but I literally have no idea what this mod does! The closest to an explanation is "dynamic avatars, much like Monster ID", but I don't know what a Monster ID is, either. I even clicked through to the linked website, and couldn't work it out from there, either! Is there anywhere which just basically tells you what this is?

RichieBoy67 09-13-2013 08:01 PM

It allows your members to download their own avatars from this guys site. He has a wide selection I guess. I think you can also customize but not sure.

Terrablade 10-29-2013 01:38 AM

There is a problem with the size. It says you can make it from 1 to 500 but it doesnt mater what size you make it, it stays the same in the forum.
Any fix suggestion idea?

DarkWolf74 10-29-2013 12:52 PM

Hey Terrablade,

Seems that Gravatar is caching images now instead of simply forwarding to the image as before. Also seems that they strip any ?variables, thus it's stuck at the default size (80).

For right now, you can disable the display of Gravatars and that will allow the sizes to function as expected. I'll see if I can't roll out a fix though within the next few days.

Terrablade 10-30-2013 09:58 AM

Well thanks for the reply. Keep us posted :D

Works with 4.2.2

tanzeelniazi 11-03-2013 03:35 PM

Working Perfect but Gravatar is not working when i use (Dont use) then working fine

DarkWolf74 11-05-2013 02:02 AM

Version 0.3.0 has been released.

This fixed the sizing issues while using Gravatars and adds a new Dramatar to the mix.

If you have any issues with it, please let me know.

Morrus: It allows you to use dynamic avatars which are uniquely generated and are each specific to your users.

Best place to demo is on http://dramatar.com/showme.php which allows you to see the available dramatars, generated for which ever email you enter.

Dramatars are selected based on the email address of your members, but the email itself is not transmitted. Instead a securely generated string is sent which allows the system to select which avatar should be displayed.

Just showing off some of the new Blockies. :)

If you have any issues with the 0.3.0 release, please let me know and I'll see if I can't knock the bugs out.

angeljs 11-05-2013 09:12 PM

The avatars are not showing on the memberlist for some reason :(

DarkWolf74 11-05-2013 09:45 PM

Huh. So it seems. I'll see if I can't work that out in the next week or so.

Thanks for pointing it out. Certainly should be showing up there! :)
