What is it?

This plugin makes your topics refresh without needing to reload the page. This includes new replies, post edits, and deletions.

Turn-key installation; there aren't even any files to upload -- just import 1 Xml. This plugin is also compatible with Post Thank You and other plugins.

Upgrading from 1.7.2 or Older?

If upgrading from 1.7.2 or older, you can uninstall all of the "Extended ... Libraries" plugins that aren't required for any other plugins.

You must overwrite the previous live_thread.min.js file when upgrading to 1.8 or newer, from 1.7.2 or older.

DNCL 08-24-2011 03:16 PM

When the user browsing the thread and got a live reply, will this reply considered as read or it will be marked as unread when he browse forumdisplay?

Cybertims 08-24-2011 03:41 PM

Too many errors now...

Got this at the top of each thread now

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in [path]/includes/init.php(331) : eval()'d code on line 88

and this instead of the thread

Support for this product is provided only on lancerforhire.com. Post whatever questions or issues you have regarding this mod there and we will get everything taken care of.

Cybertims 08-24-2011 04:08 PM

Forget that, deleted it, easier.

Cheers

A notice to those that downloaded (but have not installed) the live thread mod before this post: this mod no longer requires PHP 5.3 (although the file name appears to be the same). Simply remove the old extended libraries xml and import the new one (currently 0.4).

Works perfect for me Lancerforhire . vBulletin 4.1.5 pl1 - Clean Install. Very good work.

P.S.: Only suggestion; make a icon of some sorts to show up in SHOWTHREAD when a thread is "live" so users know which thread is "hot" so to speak, then it would be truly perfect. ;) Thanks though for your addition.

SECTalk.com 08-24-2011 06:13 PM

Does the live timer setting start at thread creation or when a user loads the last page of a thread?

If it is the latter, then say there is a post within 300 seconds, is the timer reset at that point?

It starts when the last page of the thread is loaded. After 300 seconds/5 minutes (which can be changed), the thread will stop being "live" and become a regular thread.

No errors, but it doesn't seem to be working for me in any skin, 4.1.5pl1. I have a lot of mods already installed.

If you are encountering a problem with the mod post the issue on the support forum and we'll take care of it. :)

Cybertims 08-25-2011 07:43 AM

To get support on your site it costs $1?

Fready 08-25-2011 08:14 AM

Why do I get this?

Error:
You did not enter a valid value for this setting.
I uploaded the file into the includes/jquery folder imported the 2 xml files in my admin cp.

For the second time, Cybertims did not read what was clearly stated on the page. It is for this reason that I did not reply to him.

Bacon Butty 08-25-2011 04:17 PM

Your a star mate - thanks very much. Been waiting for this for what seems an eternity!

Fingers crossed it works as well as the 3 series.

Nimaveli 08-25-2011 04:40 PM

Does this plugin use alot of resources?

So to get support and help you develop and sell your products you need to be the Krypton Factor champion?

Why not just be clear and concise from the start? Why place so many hurdles in the way of what could be a very good Mod, which at this point does NOT work? You seem to use vBulletin.org to advertise your product, but aren't willing to offer any support on it, that's a bit [expletive deleted] if you ask me.

The more you try to push everyone to your site to spend their money the more your products will lose their attraction, in my opinion of course.

8thos 08-25-2011 05:34 PM

This modification doesn't work for me.

I can't believe I have to jump through hoops and hurdles to get support.

Unbelievable.

Let me know when this is working in vb 4.1.4

Hoops and hurdles? You sent me a PM just yesterday IIRC so I am surprised you are having trouble doing it again. :? All you have to do is quote one of your replies here and PM it to me with your desired email and password for your new account.

Second time ? Ive only asked once.

I [or anyone else] should not have to go to your site to read some small print about the free support.
It should be clearly documented here. I would have thought that was common sense.

DNCL 08-25-2011 08:39 PM

When the user browsing the thread and got a live reply, will this reply considered as read or it will be marked as unread when he browse forumdisplay?

SECTalk.com 08-25-2011 09:30 PM

Lancer,

I am biased because I want support easily and fast. And not to say you won't provide that at your website. But I believe you could benefit more if you just provided support here and provided support for your premium products at your own site.

Many other developers do this, DBTech for example. And I don't think they have a problem making money by offering quality free products just as you are doing.

Again, like I said, I am biased as a consumer. You are trying to run a business model and more power to you. But again, you may benefit more by pleasing the ones who will eventually buy your product.

Thanks for all the work you've put into this product and I look forward to testing it out on my forum and possibly purchasing it.

8thos 08-25-2011 09:46 PM

I created a thread: http://lancerforhire.com/forums/show...?28-Live-Topic

Yaaaaayyy

Fready 08-26-2011 03:14 AM

Installed with no errors but doesn't work 4.1.5

vbresults 08-26-2011 12:40 PM

08-26-2011 1.1 Corrected a few issues (such as no-error issues with 4.1.4 and 4.1.5) and added an option to toggle guests being able to use "Live" functionality. The JS file has been updated; be sure to upload the new one and overwrite the old one!

EquinoxWorld 08-26-2011 02:24 PM

Just my two cents. Whatever "loops and hurdles" everyone is talking about remember folks this is still a "free" mod which btw so far works for me on a clean vb 4.1.5 pl1 install, no other mods installed. If you need to read a bit more and click a few more times your mouse, I think it still is a good mod and worth the trouble. Making a thread "live" changes how your users see your forum, my members and I can vouch for that, a lot of members left when we switched to vb4 without "live topic" (previous "live" mod), until we got that vb3 live topic mod ported to vb4 our traffic was not nearly as much as when we did finally port it, now I would be using this mod because we can have some sort of support for it if anything. Also I think the price for the Gold version is on point as well considering what it brings to your forums.

All the praise is valid when it's working then I'll 5 star his thread, nominate for mod of the month, like his post and buy the Gold version.

I agree, I would be happy to buy it, but it has to work before I'll buy and currently it isnt working for me at all.

If you advertise your Mod here then in my opinion support, if offered should also be here, not elsewhere. Surely supporting it here would get it working for everyone quicker and it turn allow you to sell your Gold product quicker and to more people?

Dont use me as a guinea pig but make me jump through hoops to be that guinea pig, then also expect me to pay you for the privilege.

Thanks for the effort regardless, but it doesnt work. Cheers

8thos 08-26-2011 07:14 PM

Posted an update on ya site. Working in IE8 but not Firefox.

Maybe we seem skeptical because this mod was hyped up by the coders who worked on it before. Lancer coming right after those guys who were unable to come up with a working product is just having bad timing. This mod is worth jumping through the hoops though if I can get it work. I had to join Andrew's Gameroom forum just to get his vb4 Casino mod working right.

Cybertims 08-26-2011 07:24 PM

It worked beautifully in 3.8 for me, in fact it was certainly our best feature which I would have happily paid money for, but this version doesnt work for me using vB4.1.5, no errors now but no live feature either.

What internet browsers have you tried? It didn't work at all until I disabled some plugins and tried it in both firefox and ie.

Only works in IE right now though.
