#Twitter Like Thread Tagging by BOP5 (Quick Thread Tagging)
 

This mod was the idea of "zethon" another vBulletin.org coder who asked me to code this.

The purpose of this mod is to make it easier for users to tag threads with relevant keywords. Although VB 3.8 allows for thread tags very few people will take the time to properly tag a thread. They have to remember to go to another box and add keywords, separate them by commas, and only then finally submit the thread or post.

But if you give people an easier way to tag threads they will use the feature much more. One of the more common ways of tagging keywords is "hash" tagging, that is preceding the word with a "hash" or "number-sign" (#example #keywords).

This has become popular with Twitter and for many people it is already second nature so many people will naturally jump right in to this new tagging method.

Version 1.2: Added option to look for new tags on post edits.
Version 1.1: Added options for multi-word tags and tags in titles.
Version 1.0: Initial Release

A sample post:

In the mod settings you can set the maximum number of tags allowed in the first post and the maximum number of tags allowed in each additional post, if any. You must already have thread tagging options enabled on your forum. If someone attempts to tag a word that is not long enough per your tagging options it will simply be ignored.

Tested With vBulletin 3.8.7 and should work with earlier versions.

That is sharp, installed in a snap and works perfectly. Marked installed.

:up: But it's not "marked as installed" for you... maybe yo did it twice? (the second time undoing the first?)

I got too excited and forgot to mark it installed.... It is now!

To Do list:

Option to remove # character after submitting the post.
Option to link tags in posts just like the tags in the tag boxes are links.

Option to allow the hashtags to also work in thread titles?

Updated to version 1.1
Added 2 new options:
Enable Multi-word tags
Enable Tags in titles.

#multi_word_tags use #underscores to #combine_words into a single tag.

My bad, I put the vBulletin version in as the MySQL version. I fixed it now, please redownload.

Upgrade is just import the xml file, allow-overwrite set to YES. Once installed go to the options to set the new settings.

You must uninstall the VB3 version before installing the VB4 version on VB4.

Hi BirdOPrey5, do you think it is possible to hide the hashtags when the post is displayed and only display them when the post is being edited/created to avoid interfering with the readability of the post?

Possible, yes, but hasn't been coded yet.

How will this effect auto tagging which i use on my site now. Can I continue using auto tagging with this mod?

Don't know how it affects auto-tagging, never used it- but my guess is there is no conflict.
