Easy question - Upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5
I'm not that experienced with doing upgrades. But I do know how to use Filezilla to get my my forums area.
So I want to upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5. 1. I downloaded the patch from the members area. The patch was two files >>>Includes>Class_Core.php >>>Includes>Version_vbulletin.php 2. I used FileZilla and when into my forum area and found the these files and renamed then: Class_Core.php I made into Class_Core_old_8_8_11.php Version_vbulletin.php I made into Version_vbulletin_old_8_8_11.php *** I did this just in case I screwed it up, and I could fall back.... 3. I copied the files new file over to the Includes directory where the old files were. 4. I did a Ctrl-F5, and nothing changes. I still see 4.1.4 at the bottom of the page. Why did n't this work? Thanks..... |
download the full latest version from members upload and overwrite all files then run upgrade.

Edit: Found it.... It's in the vbulletin manual under "Running the vBulletin Upgrade Script" (for those that don't know this stuff like me) https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/onepage/#item14 --------------- Added [DATE]1312896183[/DATE] at [TIME]1312896183[/TIME] --------------- Dang it, it didn't work.... I want to upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5, and when I run the install script, it installs the 4.1.4 again... What am I doing wrong? |

The files are there, and the install says it did it, but it did it for 4.1.4. I needed 4.1.5.
Here is the snapshot of my screen showing the files are there. I renamed the old files just so I could have them in case I messed up... Any ideas now? https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/08/56.jpg https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/08/57.jpg |
If you're doing an upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5, you don't download the patch. You need to download/upload the entire package and run upgrade.php
|
Patches are only for the same version of vb: 4.1.5 to 4.1.5 PL1, and so on.
|
You only download the patch files if you are already running that version of the software. Otherwise, if you want to change versions, you need to download the whole new package and upload all the new files and then run the upgrade script.

I think I may be getting WAY over my head, but... Let me ask....
To go from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5 you need to download this entire package. So I downloaded the entire package from the Vbulletin.com using this area, which is alot more than the two files I originally had. Do I just upload all those file and overright the old files? btw: is there a procedure "for the complete idiot"? https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/08/55.jpg --------------- Added [DATE]1312939634[/DATE] at [TIME]1312939634[/TIME] --------------- Lynne, Boofo, HMBeaty - I was typing while you guys posted. So I didn't read what you wrote until now. So I think I understand it now. I go get the entire package, and copy the 30 or so files to whatever folder they need to be. Then I run the script, and it should work? Correct? I really appreciate you guys help... |
Take a look at this section from the manual - Upgrading vBulletin
|
Woo-hoo!!!! It's working.....
It took about 3 hours, but I think I can do it in less than an hour now....Famous last words huh? I have some last questions. 1. Why do they have a "Do_not_Upload" file in the download? If you don't need it why is it there? 2. What is the Vbulletin_smilies.pdf file for? Where do you upload that too? 3. From what I understand you guys are saying if let's say I'm upgrading from 4.1.4 pl1 to 4.1.4 pl 3, then you only need to copy is 3 or so files. However, if you are going from 4.1.4pl2 to 4.1.5 pl3 then because it goes from a 4 to a 5, then you have to copy like 30 files over. Is that correct? 4. Lastly, what is the purpose of this statement? It says "Then Open the "Upload/Include folder". Why do you open it. It never has you place anything in it. It appears it just says open for no reason. Is there a paragraph missing or something? Thanks again for the help! https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/08/50.jpg |
G'Day i can answer Q #1 for you. They have that folder for tech support. If there is a problem with it They will use stuff from that folder to get it back up.
The second folder is do_not_upload - This folder contains tools to perform various tasks on your board searchshell.php - This file will allow you to rebuild the search index. vb_backup.sh - This file will allow you to run a database backup via SSH/Telnet or a scheduled backup through cron. tools.php - This file must be uploaded to the admincp folder and allows you to perform certain tasks should your board go down or you accidentally lock yourself out of the Admin Control Panel. This file must be deleted immediately after use or it will cause a SEVERE security problem. I hope that info is correct. |
1. answered above
2. It's a pdf showing the new smilies available. See this - https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/entr...Your-Community 3. correct, but there are way more than just 30 files. 4. looks like a goof. You may need to open that directory and make sure you have your config.php file in there (the one you created). |
Thanks everyone....
