Requesting Flash Avatars (along with the already implemented gif & jpg).
Also requesting the ability for my users to turn off flash footers similar to www.flashkit.com. |
im also interrested in this hack... can anyone do it?
|
Since I know diddlysquat about PHP/CGI and hacking Jelsoft's vBulletin Board, take this merely for an example's perspective.
Apparently you can enter in HTML for the users' custom title. I have been successful at "assigning" a flash custom title to a user and turning off his/her avatar. I know this is a roundabout way of doing things, but it might be a start for some of you. To clarify a bit more on the issue, I would really like a user to be able to upload his/her flash avatar and use it immediately. I don't personally care if there is a width/height requirement, just so long as a user can create the avatar his/herself. I also don't care whether or not this avatar will be seen in the list of avatars (i have the avatar category hack installed), but it would be nice. Thanks. I can help trouble shoot in anway possible, but we need a starting point. :) |
*bump*
Certainly there has to be someone out there willing to give this a shot for us "uneducated" users. ;)) |
*double bump*
If this isn't even possible, could someone at least acknowledge the thread and state so? :) Thanks. |
yes i agree, anyone who knows for sure that this can be done, or can't, please reply!
|
In *theory* this can be done.
Basically, you need to enable avatar uploads of .swf files. Then, add something that will determine whether the avatar is .swf or a regular images, and then use the right code. Like I said, this in in theory. (and I'm way too busy right now to do this, sorry) |
Has anyone yet come up with this solution yet ? I would love to add flash avatars to my forum.
:noid: |
please some one do it please :D
|
i wouldn't like this kinda, because if everyone on the forum is using a big flash avatar, the topic pages are gonna slow down...

with flash enabled i could hack a board easy, all i have to do is insert some malicious java script into it to grab the cookie. and you know this also. :) |
That's why you need to control what flash file is played through your site, and not let other people upload their own flash files. It is dangerous - like enabling HTML in your site.
