[ForumOps] My Active Threads

My Active Threads This is a small addition to the search / new posts system. It's essentially a combination of 'Find My Posts' and 'New Posts' On smaller sites, it's easy enough to keep checking the New Posts results and looking for things you've posted in. This is not very time effective. On larger sites, I tend to click (bookmark) 'Find My Posts' and look through my recent posts to see which have replies. This modification shows results for threads that you have posted in within the past 30 days, and which have been updated within the last 7. This will be configurable eventually, but for now it's a proof-of-concept. If people like it, I will continue to develop it and polish it off. Installation Instructions You'll first need to import the product XML to enable the modification. Once it's installed, going to search.php?do=myactivethreads will generate a search result based on the threads you have posted in recently. You'll need to add a link to your navbar or wherever you'd like to see it added. If some of you can agree on a good spot to add it, I can make it automatic and have an easier install process. I'll be posting a version for 4.x shortly (few days). Change History 0.9.0 - Initial Release 0.9.1 - Added options for cutoff times, and option to toggle exclude my last post, block guests |
Nice concept. This could be very handy and stimulate discussion, but it serves up threads that have no new replies since the user posted in it. Such results are not useful. Please exclude threads that have no new replies or threads in which the last post was by the user.
|
Good idea... I'll add that as an option, because I see cases where either can be useful. Will post an update later today.
Cheers |

Cool!!

Thanks for adding this. Could you add an option to exclude threads that have been read?
|
Sure, will have that added in the next few days.
Any thoughts on if I should automatically add a link to it, and if so, where? |
Definitely should be a link under quicklinks.
How does this mod differ from the search below? search.php?do=process&showposts=0&starteronly=0&ex actname=1&searchuser=$bbuserin fo[username] |
I guess they are pretty similar... this would offer a little more control over the date cutoffs and to only show new replies or ones in which you weren't the last poster.
Plus, most of all, I haven't seen any sites with a link to that, or people even advertise anything remotely similar. Good find though, I'll have to update my bookmarks on a few sites. :) |
My navbar is too modified anyway, so I'll edit the link in. I will add usergroup permissions to my link, but this would probably be useful to others.
|
Out of curiosity, what is the use case for usergroup permissions? (aside from blocking guests)
|
Subscribers! Most of the extra functionality that I add to my site, is only available to paying members. That helps pay some of the costs.
|
Does this work on vb4.2?
