Likes system added to vbulletin.org

We added a Likes system to the site. If you find a post you like, then just click on the little Like button, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2012/02/7.gif , and let us know you like it.

Please post any problems you are having in this thread so we can address them.

Thank you

Juggernaut 06-19-2011 04:20 PM

Well I definitely like this system, a new way to show coders and style programers that you like and appreciate their work. And to show other members that you appreciate their help, when they come to your rescue with answers. :D

TheLastSuperman 06-19-2011 04:45 PM

Love it so far :D.

One thing so far though is:

Quote:

You must 'Like' someone else's post before liking any more by Lynne.
I went on a liking spree, all were different users then returned back and still can't like your top post above.. is that simply the wording and we must spread some more likes around before it let's us like you again or ? (Edit: NM it's the limit in the settings you mentioned in the advisors area, could you adjust for us please? I did 5-6 others so above the 3 limit kwim and TY TY :D) Edit Again: ACK! Only 30 a day ohh I'm bummed now... I want to be the like-a-holic around here... raining on my parade already .

Now, off on another liking spree do you know how many helpful posts there are to like on here?

Lynne 06-19-2011 04:48 PM

You must like 3 other user's posts before liking the same user again. And, I think you can only like 30 a day, so choose wisely for your likes today. :)

BirdOPrey5 06-19-2011 04:51 PM

Clicking on someone's username will show the number of likes they've received in the drop down menu that pops up.

Hmmm... when you click on the link "and 12 others" say to see who else liked a post it goes to a screen with a link at the bottom to close the window- but it doesn't open in a new window so closing it closes your main session.

Either the link should open in a new window or the "close window" link should be changed to "go back."

Yeah, I know. I've asked Paul to upload the javascript for that. I guess we missed it. :)

lubbie 06-19-2011 05:23 PM

Love it... May you share it? ;)

MagicThemeParks 06-19-2011 05:35 PM

I'd love a system like this for my multiple vBulletin sites. Hope it is shared :D

Felixbone 06-19-2011 06:44 PM

Open a pop-up on the same-site just to show all the people who liked seems a lot anoying.

It would be much better if when you click on the "30 others" and it spoiled in-line. It faster and easier for users as well.

anw nice add-on here. But I think it's some kind of "post-thank you hack" mod without statistic and simplier.

BlackThorn 06-19-2011 06:49 PM

Love it but "Close Window" not working...

Eric 06-19-2011 07:04 PM

Nice use of the reputation system IMHO. :)

jscieza 06-19-2011 07:11 PM

Congrats for the new like system!

Do you get a notification when someone likes your post?

All your likes are belong to us!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_you...e_belong_to_us

Golzarion 06-19-2011 07:18 PM

Surly it was necessary for this forum, but I think a javascript button would be better...
And there is no way to "remove" our click to " like " ...

--------------- Added 19 Jun 2011 at 13:25 ---------------

One more thing : If a user puts the "like button " URL in a image tag ... what would happened ? or " the security token prevent unwanted execution of clicking like button ?

Eric 06-19-2011 07:28 PM

I think there is a bug - I have only liked one post, by Boofo, but it keeps adding me as liking random posts? :/

I noticed that, too. For example I haven't liked this post but the system says yes. What is going on?

Maybe Paul wants to play with us today :D

Somebody being cute and adding the link in an image tag. Everyone who clicked this page gave him Likes. I've removed it and will look into this.

Juggernaut 06-19-2011 07:47 PM

The good thing about any bugs in the vbulletin like system is that there are so many great coders running vbulletin.org, that most bugs will surely get fixed as soon as they get the time. :D

Maybe you could use a hash much like "Mark Forums Read" does?

I just wrote up some code to fix it. I'm gonna wait for Paul to come aboard and double-check what I did before I make it live. :)

Someone aiming for a ban.

Missing JS has been uploaded now.

Hornstar 06-19-2011 09:52 PM

Im afraid its not likely to be.

Everything here resides in one set of custom files and plugins, seperating out one feature, and making it releasable, would be quite a lot of work.

BirdOPrey5 06-20-2011 12:11 AM

There is a good "Thank You" mod out for 3.8 already. It took me 10 minutes to change some phrases and an image and turn it into a working "Likes" system on my 3.8 forum. Search "Thank" in 3.8 mods if you are interested.

Hornstar 06-20-2011 05:47 AM

The thing I like about this tho, is it makes great use out of the rep system.

goshalim 06-20-2011 06:34 AM

Love it... May you share it with ours also !!!
Nice mod !

borbole 06-20-2011 09:58 AM

I clearly told about the bug : "
Quote:

It dosen't worked for me because I couldn't like my own post ... and I wasn't sure that
it works !!
I tested the code and I saw that there is a bug in your new facility ... but I couldn't remove the others " like" .!
It seems that you thought I am going to use it here ?? so you gave me a warning card ?
I think there was a miss-understanding !!
If you put a Remove " button I would remove them all.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I wasn't sure about the bug in here ... because there was a same bug for " post thank you " hack ... but after vbulletin used " security token " the bug has been fixed !

Sarteck 06-20-2011 11:19 AM

Likes. They're serious business. ;)

You !

The correct procedure would have been to PM Lynne or Me and explain you think it might be an issue, not try it yourself on the live forum.

Its been fixed now, so nothing more to worry about.

Is this anything at all like the vBSEO like system?

Not sure what you mean by that - can you clarify?

BirdOPrey5 06-20-2011 01:23 PM

VBSEO has a "Like" system built in these days.

I'd imagine it's like the VBSEO Like System in that it lets you like posts. But the similarities end there, they are no doubt coded very different. This new system is completely custom.

I am unfamiliar with their Likes system (I didn't know vbseo had likes), so I can't say if it is anything like it.
