Login Problem

Hello,

When I attempt to login (I'm admin), I get the welcome screen, but then it takes me back to the login. Username/password is correct. Any ideas on how to fix this? As a note, I was able to sign into the admincp and change my password. Tried logging back in and was sent back to the login again. Would really appreciate any assistance with this problem. Running 3.8.4. Thanks!

Not sure what to think of this. I was able to log in again, but the problem appears to be intermittent.

I'm having the same issue. Just started yesterday

Anyone?

keharris53 06-17-2011 04:17 AM

I have a small board membership of about 100 and so far only one other has reported this problem. To date the problem I experienced has stopped the day after my original post. No idea what caused the problem. I had not installed any mods recently.

18 Jun: Spoke to soon, the login problem is back again. Anybody have any ideas?

Most of the time I can access via the admincp then access the forum...

Im getting this problem alot too.

What browsers are you using? Do you have saved passwords? Exactly what versions of vb are you running?

Frosty 06-19-2011 12:28 AM

What mods/plugins do you have installed?

keharris53 06-19-2011 03:46 AM

I'm using the latest IE (just upgraded yesterday) and Firefox. Regarding plugins, several, but none recently installed. I also have a couple members experiencing this, that I know of. Using 3.8.4pl2. No saved passwords in the browsers.

Frosty 06-19-2011 03:55 AM

To make this easier, please write names of the plugins you have installed, and try changing the style to another one, after all it could be a style problem.

keharris53 06-19-2011 05:53 AM

I'll double-check the plugins, though none have been added for months. Style is default.

fatmouse 06-19-2011 06:41 PM

I have disabled plugins and even tried the default style. Still the same problem.

I believe its a caching issue. I haven't changed anything, so I'm not sure why this all of a sudden started happening.

What I have noticed is that the time at the bottom of the forum seems off. Example, right now it's showing me 2:36pm and the correct time is 3:41pm

When I browse to a different forum or thread - the time is showing correctly and it is showing me as logged in and things seem to work fine.

When returning to the homepage, it shows me the login boxes again and the time is again incorrect.

I did a fresh install of 4.1.4 to ensure it's not a style or plugin

I use Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, and am using vB 3.8.7

Yea I was logged straight back out

BirdOPrey5 06-20-2011 11:50 AM

Weird it's happening to both VB3 and VB4 forums.

What are your cookie settings? I'd strongly suggest trying the suggested settings for a while if you aren't setup that way already.

Who's your web host? Is it dedicated or shared/VPS?

Also noticing it's putting the session hash or security token in the URL which it doesn't usually do when cookies are working.

keharris53 06-20-2011 12:25 PM

My own problem is hit and miss on a dedicated. There has been no change in how cookies are handled. Today I haven't experienced the problem, but did yesterday. It isn't consistent. I tried the access provided by fatmouse twice and both times returned to the login. Same experience I'm getting off and on. Again, as I mentioned previously, I was able to login via my admincp and then access the forum. I should also note that this procedure doesn't always work. Strange problem.

xAsphyxiia 06-26-2011 01:40 PM

Im running on Host Gator, I checked over my cookie settings, they're fine, but yet my members still cant log in.

Frosty 06-26-2011 01:55 PM

This is weird. You both use different versions of vBulletin, and fatmouse is hosted on LiquidWeb, have no idea about keharris53, but it definitely can't be something that's caused intentionally by the forum leader.

Your best bet would be to PM one of the Support team members or developers at vBulletin.com (vB.org is more of a for hacks), as you have every right to ask for support.

You'd basically give them all logins, and they would try to find cause of the problem.

It happens alot with vb.. same problem with my forum members

keharris53 06-27-2011 04:05 AM

For whatever reason the problem has stopped again. Haven't had it happen for several days now and no members are complaining. Thing is, I only had two members complain of the problem. It began a few days before my first post, the problem seemed to have gone away, started again (per my posts) and it's gone again. Strange. Can't really have support look into right now...

blackberry 06-27-2011 03:10 PM

yes same stuff happens as i said before.. it happens with few of the members then automatically fixes

keharris53 09-22-2011 10:03 AM

Has anyone gotten a solution to this issue yet? Thanks.

I'm running IE v9.0.2. It's been upgraded since this problem started per my first post. Thing is, when I can't access to the board index, I can through admin, then open the forum from there.
I've not experienced this problem using Firefox. Now and then some of my members will experience the same problem. If anyone has found a solution, please let me know.

vB developer Paul M. acknowledged there is a login bug (and it affects both version because the programmers copied some code from version 4 to 3.8.7) but said they don't have an estimated release date for the solution.
