And for Vbulletin 3.8 ?

kryap 05-02-2011 07:03 PM

Looking good as usual, thanks guys! :)

NTT 05-03-2011 03:57 AM

Good Job man !
I'm looking for the final version (can support for vBulletin 4.1.x).

gamerzhut 05-03-2011 05:04 AM

Not working:(

nitra1000 05-03-2011 06:49 AM

How does this play with the default facebook connect, should we disable it?

Ramsesx 05-03-2011 08:43 AM

Interesting stuff, thanks. But, what are the cons? I mean, what's in for your company? Or other said it doesn't look like you make this only for a better world. Is a link set to your site, do you share/collect user data?
Edit: Ok, just saw on your website that you offer different tariff plans based upon monthly login numbers.

nitra1000 05-03-2011 11:17 AM

I would hazard a guess that they will force you onto this...

I'd like to know
- Does it play nicely with the intergrated facebook connect?
- what happens to existing accounts, if I uninstall the mod?
- Is the 2,500 limit new registrations per year or a hard limit?

bhamrick 05-03-2011 04:25 PM

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was the developer on this project.

@edenx we don't have any plans for supporting earlier versions of vBulletin. Feel free to submit your request to feedback.janrain.com

@NTT we'll release a final version as soon as we're confident that the plugin works in a variety of server environments. We've tested it internally but there's always some unexpected results when you release something into the wild.

@gamerzhut can you provide some details over at support.janrain.com? This is precisely the feedback we're looking for - making the product more stable.

@nitra1000 it should work fine with the integrated facebook connect, although the accounts won't be mutually accessible. An account created with Janrain Engage (even if Facebook is the selected provider) won't be accessible by authenticating through the integrated facebook connect, nor the other way around. If you uninstall the mod the existing accounts remain but because they have no passwords the users will no longer be able to sign in.

The Basic/Free plan allows for 2,500 users per year

So once over 2,500 registered users, a board is forced to start paying or loose those 2,500 members? In my case that means over $2,250 per year.

No, my apologies for not clarifying. The user accounts remain in-tact, and therefore can be assigned working passwords through the standard "Forgot Password" feature in vBulletin which resets the password via email. If you use the Janrain Engage plugin and decide at a later time to disable or uninstall it you should create a sticky post or email users notifying them that they will need to go through this process to be able to log in.

Like woopra did.

Brandon Sheley 05-06-2011 07:42 PM

nice idea, but the part where you may have to pay

why not just use openID for the logins, it's already around?

BadgerDog 05-06-2011 09:44 PM

I must be missing something about this mod and the associated business model ...

Doug

I use this on my site, for the Wordpress blog section.
If It could get real email instead of proxy email it would make things easy.
I run Vbulletin 3.7 with no problems as do many people.
Making a plug-in for that would be amazing!
It is real simple they make money if you sign-up for their plans, they are a business the free plans work great for small sites. Larger sites may pay for the service, but as simple and easy as this site is to use I don't see a downside.

These are some tips for members who are curious about Janrain in general.
I don't have the vbulletin plug-in installed but desperately want a 3.7 version.
This was the #1 requested Plug-in to janrain by a 100 to 1 margin from website owners.

Positives:
  • One Click Registration
  • Increased sign-ups
  • Reduced spam
  • Very Functional

Downside:
  • Free version has low limit of users
  • Doesn't work with vbulletin 3.7

Doesn't work in vb4.1.3.

bhamrick 05-31-2011 05:04 PM

The mod does work in vB 4.1.3. I've just done some testing and have verified that it does not work in vB4 prior to 4.0.4 because of a template parsing error in the vB core, but I developed the mod in 4.1.2 and have tested it on 4.1.3 as well.

JPM, the error you're seeing appears to be due to the scripts inability to find the files in the upload/packages directory of the mod package. Please verify that you have followed the instructions in the package's Install.txt file on how to upload the packages/janrain-engage directory to your vBulletin installation root.

Really? Can I see it working on your vb4.1.3 board?

bhamrick 05-31-2011 05:55 PM

Octavius- I was testing on localhost, but just got it set up on a public environment. You can see it working on 4.1.3 here: http://vbforum.bhamrick.kodingen.com/forum/

This server doesn't support the Human Verification feature of vB so I disabled it here, this has nothing to do with this mod's 4.1.3 support.

It works on your site.

I wonder what I did wrong on mine...

What happens when someone use one medium (for example say facebook) to register and the next time clicks another (say google)?
Is there a way to identify that it is one & the same user? Can I add a field to enter the google id, yahoo id, etc which this plugin can levarage?

On registration an error will be thrown if a user attempts to create a new account with the same email address, however the plugin adds a new menu item in the User Control Panel called Social Identities in which users can add multiple social accounts to their profile and use any to authenticate with.

I'm the developer for this mod, and I developed it using 4.1.2, so I can assure you it does work. Can you describe what you're experiencing that makes you think it doesn't work? I've tested it on 4.1.3 as well.

skol 06-09-2011 07:50 AM

I think you need to set the api details up for each of your providers on janrain, then it should auto populate.Simply adding the janrain api won't do anything if you haven't set anything up.

prandah 06-09-2011 10:58 AM

hello
i have edit my providers but it's still not shown populated and all :D

When you click "Save" do you get an error message? The mod should call the Janrain servers to get values for each of the other fields and populate them automatically, and if it cannot it should throw an error. Do you have access to your server's error log?

prandah 06-11-2011 10:57 AM

hello
when i click sava nothing error :D
the i check my error log nothing error to :D

I'm using vb 4.1.4 and am testing this mod and so far I have had no issues. Though I would need some more features before I put it on a live forum.

Can you check if the PHP OpenSSL extension is installed? This is a requirement for this mod as all of our web services operate on encrypted https connections.
