Ok, heres the deal, me and another site will be going into a partnership and both cover some similar info and will both have VB forums, it seems pointless to have the same discussion going on it 2 forums when we are working together yet we each want our own forums and separate ad revenue, so my question, is it possible to have one database with all the files and member lists and have it to where both our scripts use that database and make the pages based on our forums color, graphic setting and so on? If this is possible, how hard would it be, thanks for any assistance you can provide. I asked this in the questions forum, but i'll ask here too.

Yes. Just set your DB info in config.php to your friends and you should be set.

thanks!

ok, well, my partner no longer wants to do it, he says that one site would profit off the other board, but, the other site would get more too, he doesn't comprehend that if i get 90% of the hits, i will make more money no matter what, but if we combine and add forums people ahev more to read and i'll make more money off his content, but he'll make more money off my content too, that way everyone walks away with more, he doesn't get it though, its frustrating, like explaining algebra to a 3 year old when its really just simple addition.

The HTML will be entirely displayed by your own set of scripts, meaning that only your banner ad code will be shown -- likewise for him.

yes, i know that, i understand that, he doesn't, i'm getting one of his staff that understood it and loved the idea to try to talk him into giving it a try, i will be able to still change colors right?

Yes, you will be using your own set of scripts, but you will share the database.

Umm... sorry atom, but not quite - everything is stored in the db.

As I said before, you'll probably need to do some custom hacking.

ahh, ok

My bad Ed, didn't notice that...guess I haven't looked close enough...just assumed.

Travis -- Sorry, guess I was wrong...kind of assumed.

ok, np, although i won't be using it in my partnership, i might still look into it

Theoretically, you could have the PHP script decide what banner code to display based on what the query string was that referred it...a little hacking is required there though...
