Added a little aquarium...

I have HUGE aquariums... decided to add this little one to my desk at home. :)

Sweet!!

Post a picture of your desk if you want! :D

I used to have an aquarium screen saver, but I lost it somewhere between changes of computers. I now just have my screens set to go black after about 10 minutes of inactivity.

Do you have a cat? Do they like the fish? My cat likes to sit and follow my cursor around on the screen. :)

I have two different aquarium screen savers. The "XP Plus" one will only do one screen and the other one goes black. The other one is called "dream aquarium" and it does both and has a ton of features. I used to have the Dream aquarium go on after 15 mins and lock my PC. A few times I got up in the middle of the night and my PC was really revving... figured it was because of all the 3d scaling ect... (I keep my PC on 24/7).

Now I just use the starfield. :)

Had a cat. She would sit for hours and watch my fish (on her but, whole body stiff and head going back and forth...). LOL

First attachment is plus (freshwater), second is plus (marine)...

Mine looked like your second one. I'm on a Mac, so I'm sure it wasn't the exact same app, but it does look like it was made by the same person.

When I was growing up, we had an aquarium, and we would take the barstool and put it in front of it and our cat would just sit there and watch and watch and watch... and occasionally stick a paw out like she thought she might be able to get one.

My mom is a bigtime cat lover. It was her cat and spoiled, so when I lived at home she wouldn't let me get a cat of my own or have an inside dog :( ... so I got into aquariums...

As we speak I'm building "a wall of fish" behind my sofa... Two 90 gallon tanks side by side... MOOHAHAHAA LOL

I'm alergic to cats unless I raise it from a kitten...

That sounds more psychological than an actual allergy.

Nope, trust me I'm allergic to tons of stuff. If someone keeps a very clean house and there isn't cat hair on every item in the house, keeps the box changed I'm fine (with most cats)... But if not my eye's start swelling up and I'm done for.

wasn't aware you had your degree. :p

Boofo 02-27-2011 05:32 PM

No degree here, just an observation. Sorry if you took it as a slam.

I used have freshwater fish growing up, then a few years back I think hey, let me get a small tank going again and if I like it, I can get the big 90 gallon I always dreamed of as a kid...

Unfortunately when I got sick my parents and sister took care of the fish... and each one thought they were the only ones feeding them.

I have no more fish.

Now I see this forum and I would be embarrassed to even start a tank again. :o

Roms 02-27-2011 05:46 PM

Just giving you a little $#!t ;)

All I'm saying is If I'm around the cat for a long people of time in a clean environment I'm all good. I generally like all animals... I think dogs are my fav. :)

Boofo 02-27-2011 05:49 PM

I had an African Grey Parrot a few years back but he ended up dying. That about killed me at the time.

Lynne 02-27-2011 05:51 PM

I still remember the summer I met my husband.... my parents were on vacation for two weeks. I had two things I was supposed to do - feed the cat and feed the fish. Well, I met hubby one week in... what could I say? I was in love and floating on cloud nine.... the cat got fed cuz she was my kitty and slept with me and bugged me if she wanted something. But the fish... well, um.... that was the end of the fish. :/

I had saltwater tanks for a while but I didn't have as much fun as with the freshwater. The fish I have respond like puppy dogs when they see you and have a lot more personality than Marine fish... The Marine tanks look nice, but seeing a barracuda or a Gar rip the head off a goldfish sure is fun... LOL

I like birds, now there is personality! I'm kind of burnt out on them right now because my mom got into raising birds and her house is so loud now... Thats all she ever talks about... LOL

I would love to have a parrotlet. :)

Me and a friend of mine raised African Cichlids back in the middle to late 70's for a few of the aquarium shops in the local area. We had 50+ tanks at his house. Most were 30 to 55 gallons tanks. That was about the time that Piranhas were becoming the next big thing in aquariums, if you can remember that. ;)

I was a single father raising my 2 oldest sons when I first got the bird. I used to hear the kids talking in their room late at night when they should have been sleeping. When I would go in there to check it out, the boys were fast asleep and it would end up being Opus sounding like that through a closed door. They can mimic anything. That was the first time I ever caught myself talking to myself. ;)

As kids my friend/neighbor and I had freshwater tanks. We'd buy fish from the local Petland Discounts store... we had no idea that some fish didn't get along with others.

One day we each brought home what were labeled "Convicts (Black)" they had lines up and down like the old time convict uniforms but were basically dark grey on black.

I would later find out they were a type of African Ciichlid.

The first night was bad for both of us. I lost 1 fish, he lost 2 I think. When we looked up (in a real paper book, OMG no google in 1985) and found the aggressive nature of the fish I chose to bring mine back to the store... he kept his... In a week or two he only had this 1 fish left, and he kept it for many years, it just kept growing and growing, far bigger than any fish in my tank.

One time he had put it in a small bowl while cleaning the tank and was bringing the bowl downstairs... the fish jumped out of the bowl... and off the side of the stairs.

I raise African Cichlids right now, they've become my favorite over the years. I've had about every type of fish you can get. I've even had a small mouth bass and crappie.

The ones I breed right now are White tail Acei and Yellow Benga Peacock... I'll post a few pics below...

Convicts are South American... ;)

Yeah, South American cichlids are fun to my favorite are severums and jack dempseys... I had an oscar that was so big and lazey he would lay on his sids all day til it was time to eat some goldfish...

I've had eels too... They are fun til they crawl out of the tank... LOL

BirdOPrey5 02-27-2011 08:29 PM

Africa... South America... It's all killer-bee country to me.

Roms 02-27-2011 08:47 PM

SA cichlids mostly live in rivers ect and there are only like 100 different species. Africa has the three largest lakes in the world tanganyika (largest, it's an abyss), lake malawi (the ones I raise) and lake victoria... over 8000 species of cichlid... ;)

Africans are mouth brooders too (raise the fry from eggs in their mouths...)..
