Mobile Forum in subdomain
[solved]
|
Has anyone figured this out?
Thanks |
For sure The mobile style is going to be a big player in the future. I have run the
i phone blackberry mod that's posted in here, it just works off the domain name. seems to me you would have to either have a mod that would sense that its being browsed by a mobile device. or run 2 copy's of the software, one on m.domain.com and one on domain.com both using the same databases The other would be a link in the header or by the log in box, that said something like click here for mobile style, that would be easy it would just link tothe m.domain.com that was in the style your wanting them to use. Interesting stuff though i just don't know about it to be much help , since i dont even own a cell phone. I'm such an old fuddy duddy. |
Interesting idea. Can you suggest/confirm any of his options? Surely this has been done before.

I know you can share a database and that would work but you would need to buy two copy's of VB.
if The style is set to default, of course anyone logging into the domain with that style would be forced to use that style if you didn't allow a choice. most sites would just make people use the style selection at the bottom to switch to a a constructed mobile style. named MOBILE style :> |

All I did was forward my sub domain to the style ID of the mobile theme via .htaccess
Create a blank index.html file and add this to your .htaccess for your subdomain: Code:
Redirect 301 /index.html http://www.yourdomain.com/forum.php?styleid=XX This is exactly how I have it setup with my site and it's working perfectly. :) |

vBulletin 4.1.2 includes:
Mobile Style Integrated lightweight mobile style. This mobile style is optimized for all webkit mobile devices in most languages, and will auto-detect if a user visits the site from a mobile device and render the site in the mobile style. Please note: Currently this style is included in both the vBulletin 4 Publishing Suite and the vBulletin 4 Forum Classic, however the Blog and CMS of the Publishing Suite are not currently covered by the mobile style - the mobile Blog and mobile CMS styles are currently in development, and slated for a future release of vBulletin. Both the CMS and the Blog will still be accessible via mobile devices, but will render in their respective web application styles. --------------- Added [DATE]1296835458[/DATE] at [TIME]1296835458[/TIME] --------------- will evidently be in the new version coming out u may want to just wait and install that see if it is what you want i think it is |
