Bring Back "Go" Button for VB4 by BOP5 (Forum Jump/Quick Navigation menu)
1 Attachment(s)
Demo Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tLLceMb604
This mod simply brings back the "Go" button that was removed from the "Quick Navigation" AKA "Forum Jump" menu. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachmen...3&d=1295112881 VB3 already has the "Go" button but when it was removed from VB4 it has added an extra click for users who want to simply "jump" back to the forum they came from. There are no settings, just install the mod and it will work. If you have a heavily customized style, specifically a custom forumjump template there is a manual template edit you can make below. THIS IS ONLY NECESSARY IF THE MOD DOESN'T WORK, TRY IT FIRST. The "Go" button only appears when viewing a thread or viewing a forum (showthread or forumdisplay) because those are the only places it makes sense to have it. Full instructions in zip file but it's just 1 product to upload- nothing else to do or set. This should work on all versions of 4.0.x/4.1.x - it has been tested on 4.0.8. Please Mark As Installed If You Use This. :) Manual Template Edit- Not usually needed: Edit the forumjump template: In Admin CP -> Style Manager ->[Choose Your Template] -> Edit Templates -> forumjump Find the line (or something similar too): Code:
<a href="{vb:raw navpopup.link}" class="popupctrl"><span class="ctrlcontainer">{vb:raw navpopup.title}</span></a> Code:
<vb:if condition="THIS_SCRIPT=='showthread' OR THIS_SCRIPT=='forumdisplay'"><a href="forumdisplay.php?f={vb:raw goforum}" class="textcontrol" onclick="document.location='forumdisplay.php?f={vb:raw goforum}';return false;">Go</a></vb:if> |
Reserved.

I don't see why we'd need this Go button, when you click on the destination Forum you want to go to you go right there. No need to press a Go button.
|
Thanks for this, and to new Joe, it is needed because unlike vb3s menu which saves the forum your in when clicked, vb4's menu when clicked jumps to the top of the list.
So if your in a thread in forum #72, if you are wanting to go back to forum #72 you have to click the jump list then scroll all the way down to 72, not very quick. |
Here is a short demo video showing the difference between not having it and having it:

Thanks! This has been really bugging me, especially on my (small screen) mobile.
I think that the only reason that every vB owner has not installed this is that they have not been lucky enough to use the right search terms. :p |

My partner installed this on our forums and it is great. As a minor style issue, I wish it were closer to the forum jump box like the old one was. The very small gap made it clear that it was related to the forum jump.
As a remark on how this works. Since it puts the current forum in the forum jump window, so the impression is that one cannot click on the current entry in the window since it is already selected. Of course the Go button makes it very natural once the user figures out that it means go to the thing just to the left. That is easier for them to pick up if the spacing is distorted by making it smaller. |
Is your button further away than mine?
Example: http://www.qapla.com/mods/forumdispl...18-Qapla-Demos That's the same distance within a pixel or two as on my 3.8 forum. If yours is further away it must be some style issue. |
I saw this earlier and thought how useful it would be but having recently upgraded to 4.1.10 I don't seem to have the Quick Nav menu at the bottom of the pages.
Is this something I can enable? Just found it in the ACP Options. Will try the mod in the morning. |
Installed and working perfectly....
Message for vb.org staff. I am getting a message saying "I do not have permission to perform this action" when trying to mark any thread as Installed or Un-Installed. |

Looks like it is a known issue.
|
Installed...working on 4.1.10 Without Manual Template Edit !!!
|
Worked like a charm on 4.1.12
Maybe I didn't know what I was doing, but manual didn't work. The links took me back to invalid forum id's...but the mod upload was painless. |
One of my members has been requesting that the drop down positioning be centered around the selected forum. i.e. the current one. When one clicks on the drop down list it displays from the top position instead of positioning the cursor to the current forum.
I suspect that is pretty difficult since it looks like the whole forumjump has been written to a variable. I believe that in v3, it worked as my member remembers. When you clicked on forumjump you were looking at the full list but positioned to the current forum. |
Works perfectly! Love this. Thanks!

Hi BOP
Put this in my 4.2 works fine but gave me two go buttons http://www.tooraktimes.com.au/forumd...pport-Feedback How can I fix please? |
It looks like you made the manual template edit when you didn't have to. Undo the edit.
|
Installed... Didn't work... Did the manual edit... Still didn't work...
Using it on 4.2... Saw it on another 4.2 site working... What am I missing? site is www.vintagejetboats.com |
You don't have the Quick Navigation menu enabled at all- you need to enable it in Admin CP.
Settings - Options - General Settings - Use Quick Navigation Menu -> Yes. |
Ah hah!!! Thanks!!!
|
Installed... Thank you :)
|
Works great Bop, only 1 problem it placed 2 "GO" buttons side by side, not a big problem just thought i would let you know.
