IPB board or keep VB?
hi, i just posted this and got deleted...
i also posted this on ipb´s site since i want to know both sides of the story basically why do you stay or migrate to IP.Board/vbulletin. i dont wanna be a troll or start a flame, just looking for reasons to move out...or not |
you will never have the right answer... if you post it here, people will vote for vB... if you post it to IPB, people will vote for IPB... wht do you think, biased opinions are not rumors...
go there to compare: http://www.forummatrix.org/ and play with existing sites to see what's best suiting your needs. |
i actually posted on their site too, as i said i want to see both sides, i know it its biased but no one is neutral on this so im asking here why you dont go with IPB maybe im not seeing something ;)

Have you tried xenforo?

everyone's using it on live boards. Its 'beta' in name only lol ie every new beta release is full of new features.
|
Try both, if you like one over the other, then case closed.
Things to think about:
If one script meets or exceeds your expectations, you have a winner. I will say this: it's relative to your needs. |

Are you satisfied with vBulletin? If not why? |

TNCclubman, beta is slang for "it might just explode with no reason" |
Gold is slang for "upgrade immediately, an exploit has been found"

the started to saw IPB site/forums and google and realized that VB has a good list of open bugs and has failed to provide the so promised platform editor, yet they did an upgrade for a NOT FREE iphone app feature... i think vb is making a lot of money and not for the quality |
IPB is total crap and every IPB forum ever made would be better as a vBulletin forum and if you did switch to IPB you'll lose all your members because they won't put up with the suck.
Is that what you were expecting? :) |
lol, kinda, actually something with fundament
|
It would be best to ask on a neutral forum
this site is always going to say vbulletin is best the ibp boards are always going to say ipb is best phpbb forums are always going to say phpbb is best see a pattern ;) |
yeah like i said i think there is no neutral place/people
funny thing is i had a lot of comments in ipb´s site with nice explanations and almost nothing here yet :S |
because you're not on a good place for comments... did you ask at vbulletin.COM ?
|
no, the community seems to be bigger or more active here
|
What it comes down to me is- I just really dislike IPB board- I'm not sure if it's the design or what but I hate them. I don't think there is a single IPB board I regularly visit... One VB board I used to go to on occasion switched to IPB and I stopped going. I'm sure they didn't miss me and I don't think most people feel like I do- but vBulletin just feels right to me. And so does Xenforo, phpbb, and mybb for that matter. IPB is easily my least favorite major forum software.

thanks!

I have an IPB and I don't really like the software. vB (3x series) is so much better/easier to work with... There are other things I don't like too... The license only has 6 months worth of downloads...
|
what do you like?
yeah the 6 months sucks :( |
The ACP setup is cool, when you download the styles it downloads everything (pictures, CSS) into one file... But, like I say... I like vB a lot more. I haven't even messed with it for over a year...
It used to be more affordible too. I bought mine for $69.95 Now it's something like $150. There aren't as many mods either. You should download a demo and see for yourself... vB is better :p |
spam was here... ?
|
I know a few people that crossed over, that I used to talk to on here years ago, they claimed vb was losing it, and or there were no new mods coming in while ipb had such a boom of new stuff. if you ask them today they say they were really just bored, and in the end the it was just a waste of time, it made no difference to their community, it rather disrupted it because users had to get used to the same things looking or set up differently. of course some kids love it but older folks hated the change.
as far as I go, the support for vbulletin isn't as great as it used to be, a lot of coders/modders have left, but a lot of new blood has come in, even though they aren't as active or talkative as the old guys were, they create great mods. software wise vbulletin: prefer the design and structure of forums, thread, cms, it is simply so much cleaner! better mod system. and the article system, no ipb mod can touch or look as good as that which the vb team created. plus vbulletin indexes way better, google some topic and forum, vb phpb or mybb come out most, google successful forums, you will notice more use vb than ipb, still to this day. ipb: way cooler profiles! from what I hear better themes system, forums are apparently more active but the actual ipb team isn't as attentive as the vb team is on the forum, but takes on bugs better. and ipb has a magento integration software which is awesome! but I noticed at ipb you often have to pay for mods than you do for vbulletin. the good thing about ipb in that case is if you do buy a mod you usually get help/support with it, on vbulletin.org you get almost everything for free, but it has become practically impossible to get some help with a lot of the mods on here. |
