Spoiler Sigs (Hidden Signatures) - Hide Sigs by Usergroup, Userid or Post Count

1 Attachment(s)
Mod: Spoiler (Hidden) Sigs by BOP5
Version: 2.22

NEW IN VERSION 2.25
Minor bug fix affecting VB 3.x only. VB 4.x no need to upgrade.

NEW IN VERSION 2.2
Two new features: 1) Ability to hide sigs for specific users and 2) ability to remove signatures from posts completely, not just hide them. Plus 1 minor bug fix.

NEW IN VERSION 2.1
A new option to always show the signature un-hidden to the logged in user, this way you can hide signatures without the user knowing his specific signature was hidden.

Live Demo: http://www.juot.net/forums/showthread.php?t=41501
(Scroll down to 2nd post to see hidden sig. No registration required. Demo is 3.8 board but works same on 4.x)

This mod has been tested on VB 4.0.8 and 3.8.6 and should be compatible with all versions from 3.5 through 4.x. If you find it incompatible please post here.

This is an installable product version of my ?Hidden Sigs? template modification released earlier. If you previously installed this template edit you must uninstall it first by undoing the changes you originally made in your postbit or postbit_legacy template.

Install this product like any other vBulletin modification. Go to the Admin CP -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product and press ?Choose File.? Locate and import the product file.

Once imported you MUST go to the options to enable the mod and setup your usergroups. In vBulletin Options scroll down to Spoiler (Hidden) Sig Options (near the bottom).
Choose Yes to Enable the Mod

You can choose to hide sigs (make them spoilers) by Usergroup ID (primary or secondary) or by minimum post count.

You can customize the HTML used in the spoiler code so if you want to change it or have a different code you prefer to use you can change it easily in the options. This is for advanced users only. This mod will work just fine with the default code.

Please remember to Mark as Installed if you use this. :)

Read the .txt file included in the .zip for full instructions.

Did you remove the changes from the old template mod?

I made all the same settings you have and used firefox and it's working on my 4.0.8. My license doesn't let me download 4.1 but I'm sure it works the same way.

I don't know what else it could be... did you make changes to the default codes when translating it to Arabic?

Can you send me a link to a thread where it should be working but isn't?

Dr.osamA 12-06-2010 01:22 AM

yes sir

i removed all extra codes and old code of same mod

then i tryed it in orignal default style vb 4.1.0

so i will do for you test forum to try and testing it there if you agree

i PM you test forum bro

BirdOPrey5 12-06-2010 01:55 AM

I can now confirm this works on 4.1.0 Beta, so I can safely say it works on 4.1 at this point.

Dr.osamA 12-06-2010 01:59 AM

Updated this today with a new option as suggest by kether1 in the Requests forum-

The new option lets you "hide" the fact you are hiding someone's signature- that is to say- to any logged in user it will look like their signature isn't hidden, but for everyone else, it will be hidden.

I personally wouldn't use it but I could see why some admins would want this option.

The new option is called: Hide for User? and the default is "Yes" which means YES, the user's signature MAY be hidden. To enable this new option you actually have to set this option to "No" which means, "NO" the user's signature will NEVER be hidden for them.

I hope you can follow my logic- test it first if you're not sure.

kether1 03-25-2011 09:49 PM

Thanks for the update! Instead of usergroups, could this be edited to use user ids? This would make adding a signature to this mod so much easier IMHO. Regardless, nice work, sir.

BirdOPrey5 03-25-2011 11:17 PM

Added your 2 requests- hide sigs completely and use with userids if you want.

kether1 03-26-2011 12:24 AM

Installed and nominated for Mod of the Month!

Small update to 2.25. This fixed a bug only present if you used vBulletin 3.x. 4.x users need not upgrade.

Is it possible to use this to hide sigs WITHOUT having the button to show the sig available? I just want to hide sigs from certain groups, with no option for them to see it.

ETA - I see that I can just hide without a button. Excellent!

Merriweather 04-21-2012 09:40 PM

Hm, except it doesn't seem to be working quite right? I have my hidden sig settings as:

Enable: Yes
Hidden Sig Usergroups: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8
Hidden Sig Users:
Minimum Posts: 0
Opening Spoiler Code: (unedited from default)
Closing Spoiler Code: (unedited from default)
Hide for User? No
Prevent Sigs Completely? Yes

I can still see sigs when logged in as a regular registered user (usergroup 2). :(

EDIT 1 - If I set it to have a minimum post threshold before user can see sigs, I can only see the Administrator's signature, all others are hidden.

EDIT 2 - If I leave the post count limit to 0, I can see all user sigs.

BirdOPrey5 04-21-2012 11:53 PM

I just installed the mod and it is working as expected (it's an old mod so I didn't have it on my 4.1.12 forum until now.)

You have "Hide for User" set to No- this means the user logged in will ALWAYS see his signature. So you would need to check from a different account.

If your goal is to turn off visible signatures for those usergroups please try with "Hide for User" set to Yes and see if it works as you expect.

Merriweather 04-22-2012 07:48 PM

Maybe I am misunderstanding this setting:

Hidden Sig Usergroups

Is that the group(s) that cannot see sigs, or the group(s) whose sigs are hidden? Though it doesn't seem to work either way. I don't want users of group 2 to be able to see anyone's sigs (including group 44). I've set "Hidden Sig Usergroups" to 2 (could still see sigs as a user of group 2) and then tried 44 (in case I misunderstood how the setting worked) and could still see sigs. It doesn't seem that anything I do in the settings will prevent users of group 2 from seeing sigs. :?

BirdOPrey5 04-23-2012 12:13 AM

Hidden Sig Usergroups = Any users in these groups will have their sigs hidden to EVERYONE

EXCEPT in the chase "Hide for User" is set to NO i which case sigs of those users will be hodden to EVERYONE but themselves. (So the user doesn't know their sig was hidden.)

There is no function to disable the viewing of sigs by certain usergroups- kind of the opposite intent of this mod.

Merriweather 04-23-2012 01:13 AM

Well, shoot. I have the opposite need of this mod, then! Surely there is a simple toggle somewhere that I could "flip the switch" on this one. I'll have to play with it sometime. :) The way our forum works is that registered, but unpaid, users are not to be able to see the signatures of our paid users.

BirdOPrey5 04-23-2012 10:26 AM

I can set you up with something to do that, it isn't difficult, just wasn't the point of this mod.

Not that you have to explain yourself to me but I always considered things the opposite way- If anything I'd want to FORCE "free" users to see signatures of paid members- not the other way around... but I guess it takes all types.

So you just want a mod where you can select usergroups that can't see anyone's signatures?

Merriweather 04-23-2012 03:06 PM

That's exactly what I need - to be able to specify the user groups who cannot see signatures. The reason is because our community is very tight-knit and the (paid) members value their privacy. Unpaid members can only see some forums, cannot post, cannot see profiles and shouldn't see sigs. We have run it this was for years (forum is 8 years old now). :)

OK... I didn't feel like doing all the "paperwork" associated with doing a real mod here so I have it available for free download on my site if you want it:
http://www.qapla.com/mods/showthread...atures-by-BOP5

It's a pretty simple mod all things considered, the options should cover your needs.

Merriweather 04-24-2012 04:00 AM

Awesome! THANK YOU!

Merriweather 04-24-2012 04:04 AM

Worked perfectly. Thanks!
