Sadistic - annoy unwanted forum visitors

The addon allows to set one or more usergroups who you wish to annoy. Users in these groups who
browse your forum will experience random, annoying effects (blinking text, backward text etc).
This makes for a fun alternative to banning, and can actually prove more effective: a banned user
will often just re-register under a different name; with Sadistic, the user may just decide that
your site is buggy, and give in.

lol...this sounds like a real good way to pi$? people off ....sounds good :eek::eek:

sola 11-27-2010 05:20 PM

This would be useful to me if it could target computers that don't allow your site to display adverts (Javascript disabled) and those with certain browser plugins activated. Of course, that would require more work. As it is, Miserable Users is more than enough.

That is not a negative comment on your good work though...

CardMafia 11-27-2010 06:23 PM

how do I select a usergroup?

I get this as an option:
Quote:

Usergroup to annoy usergroups:none
Everything else is configurable

sulasno 11-27-2010 11:55 PM

tagged and thanks

I think I am going to have plenty of fun

would it be possible to assign the mod to individual members instead of usergoups ?

This, and you've got a winner.

Hornstar 11-28-2010 08:05 AM

Just make a new usergroup called Sadistic or something, and then you have the same functionality..

sulasno 11-28-2010 08:57 AM

does it work for additional usergroups ?

Alfa1 11-28-2010 10:23 PM

Can we get an option to add soundbites? :D

NCJeepin 11-30-2010 06:04 PM

how do you configure which usergroup to anoy?

dall100 12-01-2010 12:50 AM

Just added two members to the sadistic group should have a laugh within the next few days. They will be sending their puters in for repair when I have finished with them.

BTW I tested it out and couldn't get back in to my site, so I had to use my other computer to get back into my admin. (Thought I should mention it)

Great mod.

kermit2 12-04-2010 09:12 PM

Personally I think it's neater to make it work on a user group, rather than individual members. Just create a new user group, and add the individuals to it.

Sola, when you say 'certain browser plugins', I'm curious why this would be useful. If there's a good reason, I'll see about adding it to the next version

morrow 12-04-2010 11:18 PM

Hmmmm... Couple this with the miserable users hack and we have a real winner here. :)

Just wondering, I have some users coming in through proxy servers to spam the site. So when I try to look up their IP Address's, nothing shows up. Any way to get this to recognize some proxy server and if so, forward those users to another place?

ForenOpfer 12-07-2010 01:24 PM

Thanks a lot, works fine on 4.1.0 PL2 (;

Same question here guys... how do we configure which usergroup to annoy?

As it stands, it is not a configurable option to change to any specific usergroup :(

I am using 4.1.0 PL2 so I have no idea why the post before me the fellow states it works as it does not as of this post.

carntheroos4eva 12-10-2010 01:22 AM

This sounds awesome thanks

cyberchief 12-12-2010 01:09 AM

Same problem here... no option to configure the usergroup. 4.1 PL2. What gives?

kermit2 12-14-2010 10:55 AM

That's really strange. I'll uprade to 4.1 PL 2 and see what's going wrong.

kermit2 12-14-2010 05:07 PM

I've just tried installing it on a 4.1 PL 2 site, and couldn't see any problems.

Can you clarify exactly what is going wrong? In the options page, do you see the list of existing usergroups? Are you able to highlight one?

snatta 12-14-2010 08:34 PM

 Using 4.0.8 and I as others see:

Are kermit2 with a few friends sadistic and joking with us? :D

No screenshot or demo = Uninstalled.

kermit2 12-15-2010 10:55 PM

Ahh, so it's not even showing the multi select box.

I've made an alteration which may fix it (download product-sadistic.xml from the first post). I haven't been able to replicate the problem though, so can't be sure this fix will work ... but if anyone wants to give it a try, that would be great.

Oh, and screenshot now uploaded too

cyberchief 12-15-2010 11:10 PM

Kermit2, same thing... there is NO option for choosing a usergroup. Not at all. Says "Usergorup: None" same as the pic provided above.

snatta 12-16-2010 01:21 PM

@ kermit2:

Please stop wasting our time, it was funny the first time.

Nor is there "[Edit] [Delete]"

But if anyone can fix a produckt like this, I would appreciate it. :)

Uninstalled.. ...again!

ForenOpfer 12-16-2010 07:08 PM

Works fine on 4.1.0 PL2, thanks kermit2 (;

One question left: The Sadistic use Cookies to annoy the users, right? Is there any chance to activate the Add-on for IP addresses as well, not only user groups? I would like to annoy a very special group of users with a static IP ^^

Best regards from Germany
ForenOpfer

cyberchief 12-16-2010 08:00 PM

Still doesn't work for me in 4.1 PL2. There is no option for adding a usergroup.

kermit2 12-16-2010 10:09 PM

ForenOpfer: the plugin doesn't set a cookie of its own, but it does indirectly rely on cookies, since the victim has to be logged in. I agree that IP-based selection would be useful too - I'll add this when I get a chance (maybe in a couple of days).

Snatta: before you get too worked up, don't forget that I wrote this in my spare time, and am making it available for free. I haven't been able to replicate the problem on any of my vbulletin installations, which is making it harder to fix

cyberchief 12-16-2010 11:04 PM

It amazes me how worked up people get over FREE Mods... and get all upset with those who donate their hard work.

Whats gone wrong is you stole the code from Miserable users but dont actually understand how it all works, the result being it doesnt work.

By "alteration" I assume what you mean is you took a bit more of my original code in the hope that it might fix it - but it didnt.

Who wrote it ? What you mean is I wrote it, and then you copied it, and changed the actual effects - possibly wrote that little bit, or maybe you copied that from somewhere as well. I dont know.
