vBulletin sold AGAIN - New company bought them

Well, vBulletin has once again be sold. Let's hope the new owners don't suck as much as Internet Brands and stop screwing over long term customers with their horrible licensing policies.

According to IB Adrian it shouldn''t affect vb in a big way.

I think its too early to say. Adrian probably hasnt even received any official communication till now.

Even if the new owners policy towards vbulletin changes, it is unlikely that such a decision will be made so soon. It may be months before any changes are made.

"Shares of Internet Brands, which have gained about a quarter in the last 12 months, rose 46.5 percent to Hellman and Friedman's offer of $13.35 in morning trade on Nasdaq."

I shoulda bought some stock... but lets face it, who thought it would ever go up?

sad sad news
hope it works out or I may have to look for another solution

vBulletin has not been sold again, IB as a whole is being bought.

Marco van Herwaarden 09-21-2010 06:16 AM

Please only use this thread to discuss the intended sale of Internet Brands.

Please do not turn this into a bashing IB thread, all posts that are made for that purpose will be removed.

I wouldn't worry too much about bashing :-)

M$ is being bashed everyday and yet a very large percentage of the world's population is still using it's operating system

What I would like to see is developers of vBulletin listening more to users; Developers don't have a clue what users want; and users should submit quality feedback to get what they want; it will be a win-win situation for everyone

Look at the amount of modifications being offered; developers should consider adding some of them to the software

I apologize for continuing to be off topic but it has been mentioned on .com before that developers specifically avoid .org so they aren't influenced by the mods here- my guess so IB doesn't ever need to pay a developer here should vbulletin integrate their mod/idea in the future... for whatever the reason it's really a bad deal for us users.

I would hope with the sale of IB and new management decisions like this will be changed- but I doubt it.

robdawg 09-21-2010 03:43 PM

If they integrated a mod, they would not have to pay for it.

Marco van Herwaarden 09-22-2010 06:00 AM

If i recall correctly it only happened once that a modification developer was paid for integrating his work into the default package.

If a modification would make it into the default package, it will only be the idea that will be coded from scratch by the developers.

PS Mostly a modification is the result of requests from users for functionality, the same requests are also made on the vBulletin.com suggestion forums.

I think the damage to vB has already been done. As soon as I get my next check I will moving to IPB. Been a customer since 2003 and its sad to see vB become what it is today.

True word - very true. Doesn't matter who it was, once there're investors in the game the product quality usually begin to suck. That's not bashing IB as a company - that's the typical game on markets to focus on investors instead of customers - BP, Oracle etc. etc. - a long list to be continued
