Upgrade to paid license..how?

Yes, i did it...i use a cracked vBulletin license, but i want to pay for a license. I love the software and would like to support vBulletin for their work. Although I have some questions about it before I start paying....

- Is an upgrade to a paid license from an unpaid license easy? I have version 3.7 and would like to pay for the newest software of vBulletin. Is it just paying for the new one and upgrade or do i get issues?

- What about all mods i got? Do they still work or do i have to setup new ones?

Ofcourse i am sorry for using a cracked version, but i have to agree, without the cracked one i never started to think about a real license. Hopefully you accept my apologies and are willing to help me.

haha don't worry man i've been there before with cracked licenses and illegal copies.

If by 'upgrade' you mean purchasing a vB4 license (which I think you do), then yes it's very easy. When you buy it you can put your customer number in the correct files and then it's legal. Simple as that.

If you want to upgrade from v3.7 -> 4 then again yes it's pretty easy, but you won't be able to keep your mods

if anyone gets all +++++y on ya ass about using a cracked license then tell em to stfu

If you upgrade to 3.8.6 most your mods will probably still work- but it's the same price as upgrading to 4.x.

Hi BigY,

All it takes you to turn your forum into a valid license is to purchase a vB4 forum package, go to the members area and download the vBulletin 3.7.0 release, unpack and upload it to the live server overwriting the existing forum files.

After that you can start thinking of an upgrade. Before doing anything, perform a full site backup, including files and database, then a research on your forum mods to see how well they perform with newer vB releases should help you decide which vBulletin version to upgrade to.

You'll have to replace all of the vBulletin nulled files with the original files of a legal copy of vBulletin and then start the installation process with your customer number.
There's always a chance certain data or information will get lost, you never know if a nulled copy of vBulletin is broken or backdoored.

ok many thanks!

If you purchase a legal license you overwrite the files as explained but you usually not lose any mods or custom templates if you write over with the same version you were running.

Do NOT run the install.php script- that will delete your existing data.

If you use the same version you don't need to run install.php or upgrade.php, however you can run upgrade.php if you want.

If you go from 3.7x to the latest 4.2x your going to probably lose some touches. Especially since your previous version was a cracked version. Some mods might get disabled along the process too, but you can simply bring them back since you'll have a license and can just scroll through the 4x mods section on this website :)

It's really easy, let me know if you need help

No styles & practically no mods from 3.7 will work on 4.2.

Actually some very important mods do work across versions. Not "most" mind you but a fair number.

Basically any mod that has a front-end interface will not work, but mods that don't show up in the front end, such as those that check things during registration, those that prevent access to features based on post counts or usergroups, those that only work in the admincp, all work fine.

Here is a list of important 3.x mods that still work on 4.x with no 4.x native versions - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=269719

I also think like you

why do not you backup your database and install the licensed forum and you connect your database to the new one?
